    ....Goosebumps....from the very tips of my toes to every last follicle on my head.
    I love the original so much, but the heart-wrenching soul that she puts into this version just brings me to the verge of tears.

    I love all of Tori's covers.. She does her own thing to the songs.. And she always picks my favourite musicians to cover ♥

    So wonderful how beauty and creativity can glow and be expressed through music. Her grace and spirit shines through so gloriously, it makes my soul sing.

    It is from the solo shows that Tori did in 1999, after her tours with the band had ended. This performance was filmed in Providence.

    I don't believe I've ever heard a cover done so passionately! OMG, if she ever does The Cure's, "Just Like Heaven," I think I'll have a stroke! Awesome work.

    I love the Cure heaps, so of course I love the original, but I love Tori performing it, too (anyone who can put that much of themselves into anything, you really got to admire). This particular concert version I hadn't seen before now and she held me completely entranced.

    Covers are not meant to be identical to the originals. What Tori Amos does is Art, real Art. She paints every piece using the piano like a paintbrush to express a particular feeling. That's also how she defines it in her book, "sonic paintings" and that's exactly what she does, using music to express ideas her own way. You can surely think it's too much, but do you really understand what she's doing ? I think some of you should try listening to music with a less linear ear.

    One of the only times where everyone singing with her doesn't bother me. It sounds really nice actually.

    This version of Love Song is far more emotional than the original in my perspective. I'm not saying the original isn't still great, but it's a lot more mechanical than Tori's version and she put a lot of her soul in it by playing with the dynamics of the song. Anyways, you don't have to agree with me.

  • @kellynola

    I love this song so much. But i have to say that tori dose it so much better then the cure

  • @BrainiacN5
    @BrainiacN5 Před 16 lety

    Also, the emotions you feel when listening to a song have nothing to do with the emotions that are projected. It comes from inside you, and from things you associate with that song. You can be moved by a nintendo song while a symphony or a very good live performance might leave you indifferent. And I didn't say that The Cure is mechanical, I said that THEIR VERSION of their own song "Love Song" is more mechanical than this version, for the reasons I explained in my previous comment.

    I'd love to see her do this on piano with the 311 guitar riffs as backup.
    I like it on piano but her band could really rock this out which would be so cool.

    Cool little nod to Kate Bush in the middle of that... "If I only could, make a deal with god".

    She had a whole intro to "God" for part of the original sinuality tour where she quotes kate bush.

    what does the guy yell in the audience at the beginning? and what's her response?? i'm missing the humor!

  • @BrainiacN5
    @BrainiacN5 Před 16 lety

    And in comparison... would you say that picasso overpaints his paintings ? or that he put too much colors or shapes in it ? To be able to say it's overdone you have to compare it to something else, otherwise you would have no point of reference. Here you're comparing it to the original. But you shouldn't listen to it as a cover of another group. You should listen to it as if it was her song.

  • @BrainiacN5
    @BrainiacN5 Před 16 lety

    lol well that's good 'cause I disagree
    When I said "mechanical" I meant that everything is structured in the original version. It's all controlled by the beat of the drum which is fixed and preestablished as in most music. Tori's version, is more natural and improvised. She does it freely with less boundaries. Her feelings rule the performance. I'm not saying that structure is bad, but it tends to diminish the natural of a song. It's like comparing prerecorded versions to live versions.

  • @BrainiacN5
    @BrainiacN5 Před 16 lety

    Overdone for you. It's a matter of perspective. It's one of my favourite song from Tori Amos, I love it far more than the original. Actually, I heard the original AFTER I heard Tori's version. A friend of mine sent me this one because he liked it a lot and he's not a fan of Tori. He knew the original song a long time before. It has a totally different meaning when she sings it. But then again you have to like Tori in the first place and to be able to understand her art.

  • @BrainiacN5
    @BrainiacN5 Před 16 lety

    well I disagree. Tori has always been a fan of The Cure, it's not the only song she sang from that group and they've influenced some of her music. On another perspective, she made an album that's called "Strange Little Girls" on which every song is a cover. She chosed to do that because she wanted to sing masculine songs from a woman's perspective. If you look at her art, she's not in the habit of singing songs that she cannot connect with.

  • @buddiha
    @buddiha Před 16 lety

    i reli disagree.
    for u saying the cure is "mechanical"
    dats simply coz u dunno the band
    and btw havin a smooth melody
    doesnt equal to emtional
    i reckon the original one much more emotional
    yet the cover is a gd one as well
    jus my perspective
    u dun hav to agree anyway.

  • @paranoiagent0
    @paranoiagent0 Před 16 lety

    i do think tori amos tends to oversing songs. she has a beautiful voice but especially in this song she draws out the notes too long in some parts and kindve brings parts of the song on annoying tangents. other parts like the chorus are sung well until she messes with the original notes.

  • @BrainiacN5
    @BrainiacN5 Před 16 lety

    And I don't think she oversings. What exactly is oversinging? When you're drunk in a bar, singing loud and offkey, now that's oversinging.
    (And even annoying)

  • @ASyDBarret
    @ASyDBarret Před 16 lety

    that doesnt make sense...
    you cannot listen to it as it were her song since it is NOT her song...
    she does not make it her own, she very well knows that she is covering the song
    seems
    to me it feels that you only wish it was her song - that way you could just call it her masterpiece...
    anyway i dont think this version is injected with her soul/art more than for the sake of this COVER version no more no less...
