São Paulo used to be one of the most dangerous capitals in Brazil 20 years ago. It is nowadays the capital with the lowest homicide rate. There are dangerous areas and petty crimes are an issue but it's far, far from being amongst the most dangerous. But even in Brazil people still think it is crazy violent because of the media (brazilian media is heavily sao paulo and rio focused) and because of the reality back then. It stuck to the popular imagery.

FYI Sao Paulo is not the most dangerouis city in Brazil. Not even in the top 10. Tho I agree with your comparison of the city vs. many US cities. Petty crime is definitely the issue in Sao Paulo, but saying it's the most dangerous city in Brazil, is very inaccurate and misleading. Good video nonetheless my brother.

    Some interesting facts.
    - São Paulo is the city with the most Italian descendants in the world (5.5 million, twice as many as Italy's capital, Rome). If you go to the state, there are more than 15 million descendants. But São Paulo is also the state with the most Japanese descendants in the world, over 1 million.
    - It was the fastest-growing city in human history. From just 20,000 inhabitants to more than 11 million in less than 20 decades. When São Paulo had only 20,000 inhabitants, Paris, the cultural capital of the world, had 2 million. Today São Paulo has 11 million and Paris still has 2 million. São Paulo is bigger than London, New York, etc. Imagine someone who was born and lived to the age of 80 watching a city that was made up of just a few farms with a few Italians who wouldn't fill a university gymnasium, become bigger than most countries in the world. Today city of São Paulo alone is bigger than 156 countries in the world.
    - São Paulo has the largest fleet of helicopters in the world
    - In addition to São Paulo being one of the largest financial centers in the world, the state of São Paulo is also one of the largest agricultural centers in the world. For every 10 glasses of orange the world drinks, 7 are produced in the state of São Paulo. In other words, if you add up the USA, China, Russia, Japan, England and the whole of Europe, they wouldn't even have half the production of São Paulo alone. And this isn't even the state's largest agricultural production.
    - If the state of São Paulo alone were a country, it would be among the 20 largest economies in the world.

Sao Paulo has a fairly low crime rate index (homicides/100K inhabitants). In fact, this index is lower relative to some American cities like Chicago, Detroit and Baltimore. Having said that, the number of petty crimes is quite high. Cameras, and phones can be stolen quite a lot so one should be vigilant when walking in the city. The city is far from being the most dangerous in Brazil. As a matter of fact, is quite safe given its size and complexity.

I don't think homicides/100k inhabitants is a good metric to measure violence (in the generic sense) here in Brazil though, except maybe in some super extreme cases. The absolute vast majority of homicides are due to gang on gang violence, which doesn't concern the average citizen. Compare São Paulo to Chicago and ask where people feel safer downtown. The petty crime (which is brutal in Sao Paulo) is what matters most to the common citizen

When we are talking about cities, we cannot consider the entire conurbation directly linked to a central city. If we consider this, the expanded São Paulo has 32 million inhabitants. Como o vídeo trata de CIDADE, temos que considerar todas as comparações no quesito CIDADE. E, neste quesito, São Paulo é sim, a maior cidade das Américas, dos Hemisférios Sul e Ocidental e da lusofonia, a quarta maior CIDADE do mundo., the only one outside Asia.

São Paulo has the lowest rates of violent crime among Brazilian capitals and big cities! The issue inSão Paulo is petty crime, specially in ares close to the old downtown! But the new city centers, Paulista, Berrini, Olimpia Village and Faria Lima avenues are very safe! Your conclusions are right!

I'm natural from São Paulo. Indeed the city is not so dangerous with areas in town in which you couldn't be any safer.
Still the same, there are some regions in that are indeed very dangerous, but they are mostly some specific spots in city center and all around the outskirts of the city. Since São Paulo is a Huge city, most tourists don't get to the outskirts, meaning they will mostly only face issues if they walk into one of the dangerous zones in city center.
