    This Lowpass on the kick really made me wonder when i randomly listened to looped in my car. It started quiet and i turned up the volume but then... the kick hit and was perfectly smooth to really vibe. I was like yeah probably something deep and layered. But yeah.. its just a filter on a generic drummachine kick. I suspected it was some acoustic layered with a sine wave kick or something. But no - its just that. Really nice sound. And nice to see you break "the rules". My mind was always like "nah, you cant do that. thats wrong. The transient is need to make it good" and stuff. But no. It sound fire and great.

    Hey! First, I must say that I love your work and juicy productions. Your music convinced me that edm can be real art.
    Can you briefly describe how you achieved this soft but strong kick sound in Pliant? I suppose it's just 909 kick, but it sounds so organic.

    This was really cool. Janus, you mentioned that you low pass all of your kicks, but I was curious, do you ever use kick synths as well as samples? If so, do you have any that you'd recommend?

    • @JanusRasmussen
      @JanusRasmussen  Před 3 lety +6

      Thank you, happy to hear you enjoy the content.
      I'll be honest with you. Lately, I've been using Splice and Loopcloud quite a bit to find new kick samples with. I just love the fact that you can buy singles samples out of whole libraries. Usually, these packs don't include more than one or two samples that I like, so this makes a lot of sense to me. I sometimes go on Splice and only find kicks that I like and save them to a folder for me to find later on when I'm working on music. I even have their app on my phone and treat it almost like a game, just finding samples instead of pointless social media scrolling.
      Not a sponsor btw! I just really find this a lot of fun to do.
      Hope this makes sense.

    • @milymlody
      @milymlody Před 3 lety +1

      @@JanusRasmussen Makes total sense. My experience with sample packs was very much the same - so might just pull the trigger on Splice. Also - it's reassuring that producers like yourself also use it! Takk 🙌

    • @sensitize
      @sensitize Před 3 lety

      You can also use Kick 2 from Sonic Academy - it's a great plugin to create and tune your own kicks, sometimes it may be faster to create it from scratch than looking through large libraries.

    👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Any specific outboard hardware you use to design your kicks? I’ve been messing around with the analog rytm mkii kick drum engine for a while now but all of the kicks start to sound the same.

    • @JanusRasmussen
      @JanusRasmussen  Před 3 lety +3

      I stopped using my Analog Rytm because it's in my touring case somewhere in Germany 😂 So no, lately it's only been samples. I really want a MFB Tanzbar though.

  • @rohnemusic
    @rohnemusic Před 3 lety +1

    Nice one! Always love your videos... Do you generally have the ratio on infinite when sidechaining the bass from the kick?

    • @JanusRasmussen
      @JanusRasmussen  Před 3 lety

      Good question!
      It totally depends on what suits the song the best. It's a relatively new thing that I set my ratio to infinite. I just quite like the house'y pump feel that it makes.
      I would say, play around with all the settings until you get something that makes sense for the track you're working on. Although, I do think you should always be careful of is having too many different settings going on in the same project. Try to keep the same settings for all of the side chain compressors, it will give a more consistent sound. How much threshold you apply to each channel can vary though. Hope that this makes sense.
