Literally one of the best 7 minute tutorials I have ever watched. So much gold in here.
Nice, thank you very much! I'm happy you think so! 🙌
the trick where you route the envelope follower of the hi-hat to the gain of the utility is GOLD!
Excellent tips and great video my friend ! Liked and subbed
What's always cool about Janus' tips is that they're always focused on creativity just as much as process. So many tutorials tend to zero in on the technical capability of a DAW, instrument or plugin, whereas these videos demonstrate the cool things that can be done with a bit of creative thinking as well, something which is perhaps hidden away by a lot of producers who maybe want to keep tips and tricks to themselves. The reverb automation on just selected clap hits is a great example of this. Awesome as always!
Thank you very much! I'm happy to hear that you like the creativity approach I'm trying to have with these videos 🙌
this video is ridiculously good. thank you immensely.
Been learning production through CZcams for 3 years and this is the best drum tutorial I’ve seen by far!! Definitely going to be rewatching this weekly because the tips are invaluable 🙌
Loved the envelope follower to the gain with the hi-hat track/percussion loop. Very cool!
Gotta say the pace of this video was spot on. Felt like I got a ton of information in a flash.
Thank you! Yes I'm quite proud of how that trick worked out, hehe.
I try to keep my videos to the point, great to hear that you appreciate it 🙌

Excellent ! I would also really enjoy knowing how you made this hypnotic bass at the end :)
Organic, it's fascinating to see you do it with ease. Thank you so much. I'm subscribing of course.
Something is wrong with the youtube algorithm. I enjoy making music. I am always watching music production videos. And Kiasmos is one of my favorite bands. Your videos have never been recommended to me on youtube. I was actually googling to see if you had solo work and found your channel. I couldn't believe it.
Thank you for finding my channel :)
The CZcams algorithm is no joke to get past, haha.
Great channel sire

Envelope follower tip for the win! Thank you THANK YOU for sharing Janus. Cheers!
Glad you think so, it's a under utilized tool I think :)
great content man 🔥
Appreciate it! 🙌
I like to automate one of the tips you did here. You made some small 0-35 cent detunes on your claps; I like to assign an LFO to a Frequency Shifter with a "random" waveshape matched to the time interval of my percussion... that way it detunes my hats and percs to about that same range (up to ~40 cents), making every hit is just a tiny bit different.
Great stuff, thanks!
Thank you for watching 🙌
Amazing! You could have made 7 videos with this amount of information.
Haha, happy that you think so! Thank you for watching 🙌
Two more things, I often do, when things are too tight to the grid: 1. Apply a swing setting from Live's stock list of grooves. 2. Find a drum loop that works with the machine beat and use Live's extract groove feature and then apply that drum beat's swing to the machine beat. Even with subtle settings, this can work wonders.
That's a lovely tip! I do it from time to time as well. Works great :)
That's awesome! Thank you Janus! :D
I'm glad you think so! Thank you for watching 🙌
Excellent video
Thank you very much! 🙌
Dude i love the shortnes and amount of informations i get...well structured and brutaly effective...youll get the 100k ifs

Once again, thank you! This blew my mind :D
Great, thank you for watching! 🙌
Man, so glad you got recommended to me. I had no idea you were in Kiasmos! Been a fan of Olafur Arnalds for years, and then discovered Kiasmos recently, and now you! And you give fire Ableton tutorials. Thanks, Janus! Subbed, and will consider Patreon after the holidays!
Yeah, thanks Janus, thank you for sharing these great and useful tips, very inspiring. Already waiting for the next lessons ...
Thank you for watching, happy to hear you like these drum tips 🙌
Wow, you read my mind! I was listening to your tracks Neyo, Joro and Bloo along with some Kiasmos this afternoon and was thinking about how you did the drums. This is brilliant. Thanks for this.
Glad you like the drum tips. Thanks for watching and listening to my music 🙌
rellay nice thanks!
The thumbnail for this video looks like you're doing ASMR :-)
Really needed that explanation concerning the drums. I get my tracks reviewed by some well known DJs and producers and the main thing in my tracks is that it lacks something in the drums but my chords and melodies are always great but I had to focus on my drums. As your are one of my favourite artists for music production, this video was perfect for me to understand how to make it more lively. Thanks Janus ;)
Wow, thank you very much for your kind words! It's really encouraging for me and makes me want to continue making more videos! Happy to hear that these tips could help you 🙌
@@JanusRasmussen please do more of these!!! Honestly, we want to learn from professionals! 🙏🏻 also, the track I was talking about is called ‘Sleepless’ and it’s available on my CZcams channel if you want to check it out. It’s this one where apparently my drums are a bit “strange” for some professional producers. ☺️ Thank you Janus!
Que bellezaaaaaa!!!!!!
Make a video about live performance please!
That will happen once I start playing shows again :)
🔥
Thank you! So useful! Did you consider making a Drum Sample Pack? :D If theres any, i would buy it instantly!
I have been thinking about it lately. Maybe it's time to do it soon :) Thank you for watching 🙌
@@JanusRasmussen yes please do! I will buy it immediately!
bonkers
Thank you 🙌
1:41 Janus trying to find the camera
Haha, I'm such a dork 😅
Please come back
ahah thank you Janus that's awesome and very useful! I didn't quite understand how you did tip number 6 though, you explained it too quickly. Anyway very interesting, just need to put them into practice now. And sorry for not answering you last time, it is more difficult to manage everything bewteen music career/life with a baby at home. Thanks again looking forward to watching the next video!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching my video :)
@@JanusRasmussen it was very helpful :-) I have an idea for the next video, what about "Make CRAZY bass with these tips!"? and also maybe a video on how you organize and structure your tracks from start to finish (the form of the composition itself)
As always, awesome tricks! Quick question, do you master all your tracks ? Could be cool to see your final touch on it ;)
Thank you very much!
I don't master my final mixes, no. But I do have a master chain that I've been using for a while now. But it's mostly for me to listen back to :)
@@JanusRasmussen Cool! Could be curious to see it one day in a video hehe
Cheers again !

We need realese of Claire with Anyma.
Great as usual, but how do you nudge the clip left and right on the grid? Is this possible without switching off Snap to Grid?
いいね!
Thank you 🙌
@Janus Rasmussen Waiit, how did you bypass all selected effects at 6:08?
Select all the plugins and hot key for deactivate is 0. Works audio and midi clips as well
Thank you. Are you using just audio files or you are using a drum rack to? If you are using drum rack, at what stage you are flattern (converting) to audio from MIDI?
In this example, I'm only using audio files. I normally use both drum rack and audio files; it just depends on what I'm going for. Usually, I flatten down the midi if I want to get fancy with editing the drums further :) hope that helps. Thank you for watching 🙌
@@JanusRasmussen Thank you verry mach. This is one of the best drum programing tutorials I've ever seen.
What's the difference between the 'phaser particle alliance' and the ableton stock phaser? Is the particle alliance one better?
I don't think I know that phaser. You should honestly just use what you think works for you :)
@@JanusRasmussen aha I meant the one you were using in the video! Do you recommend it?
@@Jmacaa11 I might be misunderstanding this, but it is the ableton stock phaser. Klick the arrow before the phaser-flanger and it's there with some pre made settings, but it is the same stock phaser.
@@lleevv1052ah ok I hear you. Thought it looked like a max for live plugin but that makes sense.
Ah, yes this is just the new Ableton 11 stock phaser, they changed the look of it :)
