  • Packout Killer? ToughBuilt's New StackTech
    Toolguyd: tinyurl.com/yn...
    Milwaukee's pack-out system has been the king of modular tool storage systems for so long that they've become the default choice for many professionals out there. Almost every other tool company out there has brought out its own version of the modular storage system. Dewalt's Tough stack as well as Tstak and Craftsman's compatible versua stack system just start the list. Rigids pro system, Husky's new modular system, and even Hart and Harbor freight have a portable storage system and let's not leave Ryobi out as well. None of these systems have the depth in their lineup to even come close to what Milwaukee has offered. The closest system that's come out recently has been the one from Flex. And that is a great system but it too has still fallen short of Milwaukee's offerings. Tough built is pushing all its chips in on modular storage and it looks like by this time next year they will be going toe to toe with Milwaukee's pack out system.

    The system looks awesome along with the new additions from Flex. However I am so deep in packout, and as long as Milwaukee keeps coming out with new stuff, not much chance of changing. But I am happy to see other systems for competition and hopefully better pricing since Milwaukee won't be cornering the market. Good job there 🐻

    I just read the article about what’s coming and it’s insane! It destroys everything out there, by landslide. This will be amazing for me and my travel tools as a handyman/mechanic. I’m in. All in!

    I've been looking at different systems and all but packout fell completely short, I'm a handyman who one day is a electrician, next a plumber then trim carpenter among other things so a system that gives me as many options as possible is needed. This looks to fit the roles.

    I really like the assortment of drawers they're coming out with. They'd be ideal if they have some sort of seal on them - it could be a huge game changer in places with high humidity. Sick of things rusting.

    I've been accumulating the ToughBuilt clip system pouches over the past couple of months. I'm hinting to Santa, that I want the tool tote. Lowe's has it, and it's a decent price. Really love the quality of the pouches, the cushioned belt is comfy, although it's a 'one size fits all' type, and not really geared to guys with smaller waists (I'm a 32). I had to do some mods to it, but it's great. Overall impressed with the ToughBuild stuff!

  • @michaelscholtis440
    @michaelscholtis440 Před 11 měsíci +4

    I have a ton of Toughbuilt stuff (pouches galore) because you can swap them between belt, bag, box, and even hang them on rails in vehicles and on the wall at home. I think this new box system is beyond phenomenal. I even prefer it to Milwaukee as it is pictured. However, for a person who already invested in 30-40 boxes from any other system, it is cost prohibitive to jump to a new system no matter how good it is.
    My other problem with companies, is that they often drop systems after you are pretty invested in them forcing you to purchase whole new boxes as your old stuff breaks or when you need to slightly expand for additional tools.
    I first started with the Husky system about 4-5 years ago. Then last year as I needed more boxes, their system started to become difficult to get and then they dropped it all together. I really wanted to jump to Milwaukee but for how much I needed it would have been too expensive. I ended up settling on Rigid (mostly 1.0 but have a bit of 2.0). I did this because I felt that Rigid was the ONLY company that ever made their new stuff backward compatible. That in itself sold it even though they lacked any real innovative boxes--although I hear that they have a drawer module coming out.
    So, for me, I'll be one of the people drooling over this new stuff every chance I get, but alas I'll have to pass.

    Ive always liked Toughbuilt stuff & I didn’t even know it. I’d bought an article here & there bc of a certain innovation or design. I recently reorganized my tools & equipment & realized I owned quite a bit of toughbuilt starting with their gel-fit knee pads. Their design style speaks to me so I willl go whole hog in on their system even tho I own a moderate amount of Packout & smattering of Systainers from the purchase of German power tools.time to return the large tool box & massive mouth tool bag I recently purchased discounted (I wonder why) & wait for the StackTech version to be available.

    One thing I want to see is an external cleat or other mounting system, where someone with a 3d printer can print a one-off bracket for mounting a large specialty tool to the exterior of the stack... There are a lot of folks out there who have one-off needs, and trying to chase that market isn't really economically viable at the scale you need to be affordable, but if there's a simple, well-defined mounting option, there are a bunch of folks out there with 3d printers who can do one-offs for themselves and friends pretty cheap. PackOut has that rail at the corners that sorta works (seriously, it's amazing how many things I've seen that clip onto that), Flex seems to be getting into the general idea (if not at a scale that can realistically support a 10lb tool), but generally, it seems like it's a "if it doesn't go into one of our boxes, we don't care about it". This system seems to have that with the corner-mounted accessory plates, but I'm not committing to anything until I see it live.
    Example: AMA firefighter. There's all kinds of oddly-shaped stuff that is needed for a rescue truck. And we can get brackets for just about all the stuff (some of which work a lot better than others), but that's mostly because state and federal grants make a cottage industry that charges ridiculous prices viable. There are tradesmen out there with the same kind of one-off needs who look at the prices the fire service pays and are like "... shouldn't there be a decimal point in there?"

    • @davidedwards9157
      @davidedwards9157 Před 11 měsíci

      And for super bonus points... It'd be awesome if ToughBuilt provided dimensioned engineering drawings for such a cleat, along with notes on "limit on a static shear load is X, limits on a lateral shock load is Y, limit on impulse before the screws pull out of the plastic is Z".

    I can see ToughBuilt cutting into Milwaukee's business assuming they're able to deliver what they've put forward at an inviting price while maintaining comparable durability. Having bought into PackOut via last Christmas' sales (still painful, though), they certainly set the standard for this segment in terms of utility and overall quality. But at the same time I wasn't taken with their weight and the fact that damaged units were delivered to me (retailer made it right, but still).

    I originally had the Craftsman, had that for a couple years, I upgraded to Milwaukee about 6 months ago, primarily because it had a cooler and a crate which are needed for my job, I like it but the dolly wasn't quite as good as I was thinking and overall the system is very heavy, but I may look at going with the toughbuilt, it will have the cooler, the crate, its dolly looks far more functional, and that hitch attachment would be awesome for what I do, it would save so much room in my vehicle for freight. I just wonder if the plastic would hold up driving in Montana winter, i worry it might get brittle.
    Im excited to check it out when it launches!

    Wow this set up is pretty awesome. Thanks for the heads up on this one! Maybe I missed it, any idea on price point? Glad to see actually decent option in a black color scheme instead of awful bright red. One thing it looks to have coming that I'm excited about and pretty sure only Milwaukee has at this point is the hand truck. What bothers me about most of the modular toolbox systems is that in order for you to have wheels, you need to lug around the big lower box. I'd rather have the wheels separate and then be able to put whatever boxes you want for whatever my need is at the time. I also see they have the XL drawer box coming which im excited for. For me, it's drawers or nothing. I pull up to a jobsite and need a larger tool like a recip saw from the lower box, the entire stack had to come apart.

    I'd like to know more about the locking mechanism. To me that's what sets Milwaukee apart is how you can lock individual items in multiple sections with their cleats. As opposed to just locking in the center or edges like so many systems are doing

  • @luimelo6280
    @luimelo6280 Před 11 měsíci +1

    They seem like they’re going to everything. The most important to me are the drawer tool boxes, and the going to have a box with 4 shallow drawers, a box with 3 regular drawers, and a box with 1 big drawer, and I think they have another boxe with a singular regular drawer. Nobody has that. That’s what I’ve been looking for. I found out that the drawer tool boxes is a way more convenient,and easier way to store your tools. The regular tool boxes are ok to store tools. It’s better than nothing. But is not the more efficient way.

  • @WolfsHaven
    @WolfsHaven Před 11 měsíci +1

    That locking system they are using is unique and interesting. It allows for those half size sideways boxes. something I've been wishing for since the first time I've seen these type of systems. The most useful thing for me would be the drawers.
    You get to the bottom of the page and see the work shop and vehicle stations! Complete game changer!
    My day job is in IT and I do livestreaming video production on the side. I currently use 2 stacks of HFT for the video stuff and another for my tools that other than a couple gets little use now days.
    This system is just a complete game changer. With the giant scope of the line, I can see it being useful for so many industries that I never even thought with current systems.
    Unless the pricing winds up being untouchable I will switch over to this.

    Just adding my two cents here. I get the hate towards Milwaukee Packout. It’s bright red here in the states, it’s very expensive to be simply a tool storage and organization solution. BUT, it’s almost always in stock in my local Home Depot. There are plenty of solutions for if I want to organize power tools, hand tools, OPE tools, heck I can even get on board with their Medkit Packout idea.
    Anyways, you don’t have to go for the expensive options, but I don’t really know anyone who got into the Packout system, and then regretted it.

But overall I've been happy with the packout

    One thing is good about 3rd party systems is that they're not dedicated to their own brand tools. For instance, you can get organizers to put Milwaukee socket sets and wrench sets for use in Packout boxes, but they're built specifically for Milwaukee's tools. If you own GearWrench, your mileage may vary. A 3rd party should provide more wide compatibility, so you're not dedicated to a single brand tools without owning a 3D printer.

    I am heavily invested in packout, but you are 100%. right this is better. They are releasing things that I have wanted Milwaukee to release forever. The first would be the bottom rolling drawer box. A bottom rolling box that is accessible from the front. The other box, I’ve wanted a large single drawer box for larger tools that is also accessible from the front. Milwaukee has become complacent. We have been asking Milwaukee to make these changes for so long . 7:22 It is frustrating if they release wall mounts and it’s not a side, locking system like the Dewalt and the flex but more like the Klein and the Milwaukee Box I will switch, my work van over. Mostly out of spite. Another big think they have going for them is they aren’t Power Tools brand specific. So it doesn’t matter what platform you’re in.

    Something like "Sliding Drawer Cabinet Frame: 15 1/4 in x 11 3/4 in x 16 3/8 in, For 6 Drawers, Gray, Glide" from grainger.
    Where each "drawer" is sealed, but can be carried away independently. The "Packing On Top" aspect means that if you have dozens of parts organizers, you're always shifting the whole stack to find the part you're looking for.
    Providing better provisions for external labeling would be nice too.

Which is ok because I don’t shop there unless I have to so I will just order from someone else.

    Really nice stuff, especially with the upcoming accessories and carts.
    I will say that they are noticeably heavier and bulkier than the packout of similar capacity.
    At this point I have tough system, packout and now a fair amount of the Stacktech.
    The upcoming Stacktech wall mount parts are the first of any manufacturer that I may consider.
    I’ve had a tough built saw stand and a bunch of the pouches for years now, and it all has held up really well

    Hey Bear, thanks for keeping us 👍🏻👍🏻 informed on the new tool products. I love the tough built stuff. I would love to see a company produce Stackable Drawer units that are sized to fit inside single & duel rear wheel utility body trucks. Currently DeWalt's & craftsman's te-stack and DeWalt's tough system drawer unit are the only ones I've found that fit into SRW- utility body. And the quality isnt the best for this type of application due to all the movement of the everyday driving.

    The old school TSAK works perfect for me. No it's not heavy duty but you don't have to take off every box to get to the bottom box, you can customize it to your needs.

    This good news for me I really need boxes soon starting next year so I'm not in any system. I have toughbuilt belt with a bunch of different clip one and it's amazing. If they do what Milwaukee did is be able to remove from the front while being cheaper I'm locked in then on this system. Other thing I really need is the cart/Dolly if this is all metal compared to Milwaukee then that's for sure something I'd get even if I didn't go with their boxes.
    Edit: I just looked at the site It looks like you lock it unlocked from front so it looks like everything is removable from the front. That work tower light also looks awesome. They probably got me locked in depending on price still.

    Def looks like its going be a legit competitor. The convertible hand truck looks really cool. The one thing i cant wrap my head around still after all these years for every single system is why is the rolling tool box not jus automatically a cabinet? Why the top lid of the 1 box that has to be on the bottom? It jus baffles me. It doesnt make sense. Now i see in the article it seems to mention a rolling drawer box. Drawers work too but preferably i think cabinet makes the most sense. Thats why i had to mod my toughsystem 2.0 box to be a cabinet

    Holy Toledo!! It look like they combine Milwaukee and Flex. What I don't see is a deep toolbox for parts storage and 4 drawer box. the other stuff that is mentioned in the article blow me away. Yeah that are serious about this. Also one thing that all these modular systems are lacking is a place to put labels. One only company that has this is Festool and the Systaniner system. Competition is great!!!

    That's a nice system. I have the Flex just cause it was a steal at one time. If anything this will be good for market competition. Driving prices down or other systems both innovating and running more deals.

    I bought the Rigid system 3 years ago. Couldn't handle the price tag on Dewalt or Milwaukee. It's almost useless!
    All are top opening cases. It is hard to latch/unlatch the couplings, and after 3 years, it still has the STRONG CHINESIUM smell every time I open one.

    what I don't like about these tool systems is I have not seen one yet that is easy to climb stairs with (going up or down ). On flat ground they are great. But 85% of the time I have stairs to go up and down with my tools

  • @render8
    @render8 Před 11 měsíci +1

    I want a system that unpacks itself, can go up stairs by itself
    And at the end of the day it packs up and puts itself away.

    Milwaukee has socket sets in their cases, but thats it. they are proprietary only, which means Milwaukee tools only too. AND the socket sets Milwaukee offers are limited sets and do not have space to add additional items, like larger sockets. imagine adding a 1" or 1-1/16" sockets to your set. this is so sad. i would like to see low profile cases like the packout, but with GENERIC options for tool storage. i want a case to have hangers/inserts/organizers for SAE wrenches and sockets so i can build whatever i want.
