Talk: “Exercises in Style: Comics, Constraints and Creativity”

Welcome to a meeting with Matt Madden, an American comic book writer and artist. He is best known for original alternative comics, for his coloring work in traditional comics, and for the experimental work 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style (Penguin), a comics adaptation of Raymond Queneau’s Exercises in Style. He also teaches comics at the School of Visual Arts and Yale University.
Today Matt will share pages from his book 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style (recently published in Russian by Boomkniga) and talk about how his discovery of a relatively obscure book of French experimental writing opened his eyes to new ways to make art and made him rethink his ideas about creativity.
