  • The Dogo Argentino or sometimes called also the Argentinian Mastiff is a powerful, athletic, agile, and very loyal dog. Their most distinctive feature is courage which they show through their appearance, this breed can reach up to 27 inches at the shoulder and weigh up to 100 pounds. Bred in 1928 by Antonio Nores Martinez in the Argentine province of Cordoba, the Dogo Argentino is the result of cross-breeding between many large and powerful breeds for the purpose of big-game hunting, including a dangerous animal like the Puma. But can Dogo Argentino actually kill a real beast like the Puma? With a bit of force exceeding 500 psi, speed up to 25 mph and the courage of a fighter, Dogo Argentino would get into a fight with a puma and kill him! In a province of Argentina, two girls were rescued from this breed while they mistakenly encountered a puma. The Dogo Argentino faced the puma and mercilessly killed it.

Most people know about the Puma story. I am a huge Dogo fan, I absolutely love the breed but I live near Mountain Lions and know what they are capable of. Let's be honest, if you put a healthy Puma in its prime against a healthy Dogo in its prime, the Dogo wouldn't have a chance. They are brave enough and would defend themselves and their humans but they won't win against a healthy Puma.

I think al to of people that are looking at it fairly agree with you. Somewhere, a while ago, I saw a video which supposedly was with the family involved or some actual witnesses and it just didn't sit right. I live n a state that has Mountain Lions and it's difficult to believe that a dog, any dog, defeated a fully grown, healthy Puma. We hear lots of stories about dogs defeating certain animals, and if they are true at all, when the entire truth comes out, it usually is because it was a sick/injured predator or a juvenile predator that was involved. I am an avid dog lover and have dogs but seeing any dog defeat a Puma just doesn't seem correct.

let's be serious, a healthy dogo argentino can't beat a healthy cougar, I believe it strictly you, only you, you have a dogo or have you documented it, the cougar is a hunter, not a fighter, you know, I'm not talking about resistance, a dogo has 10 times more resistance than a cougar plus the bite of a dogo is much stronger than a cougar and first of all wild cats are not fighters and killers while these dogs of this particular breed are good fighters that will fight to the death in the strange cat. they are seriously injured, but no wild cat will fight to the death and will abandon the fight in the shortest possible time, SO if you know something more documentary, stop talking nonsense here

Its a pack hunter and catch dog.. its not supposed to kill the large game, just hold it.. yes if a pro dogo that knows its prey, goes in for a throat shot, they are precise and smart biters and when they bite, yes they can crush a cats throat with ease.. and yes a cat also is a brutal force.. its best to use 3 to 5 dogo on any large game.. for their safety.. my dogo he has zero xp vs any wild animal. and lack of training would be why he would possibly fail. had he grown up from a pup vs'ing a beast sure he would have a better punchers chance. however two dogo are powerful enough to control a 400lb bear.. Hunters will use dogs to flush them out of hiding, force the puma to climb a tree to avoid them. Once treed the hunter will shoot and kill the puma. The magnificent cat associate's dogs with hunters and tries to avoid them at all cost. Corner a puma when it can't escape, the dog is dead.

He has financial benefit from the image of these dogs being strong and he himself said the Puma was so thin and weak and malnourished he thinks it was close to death it wasn't a fully grown cat and attacked the children in a desperate attempt for food. All this glamorisation of a dog trained to attack and earn money for owners (who won't think twice about using it to kill people) doesn't amount to much - I could be wrong in saying that, however, the Puma has far more aces than it's supposed, canine opponent.

@@headlinesenter2804 there is s short documentary on this. No. They didn't age verify the puma. Nor determine if it was sickly. The puma did not get the chance to actually attack the kids. So no, neither was hurt by the puma. I dont think they mentioned pumas sex. In this story it doesn't matter if it was full grown, sick, 7 months or a few year old . It targeted prey and was intercepted by a fearless dog, something it was not prepared for. The dog already had his plan of attack...the puma had no clue for at least a second or two.
A person half your size could take you down if they had absolute surprise, knew where to strike, and had 2 seconds to do it. Advantage to him. Put the two of u in a ring to fight toe to toe, advantage to you.
I have no idea how it played out, but given the details of story, imma stick with surprise followed by execution of attack plan , stuck with it and gave'em he!!. Survived.
      Fortune favors the bold.
This story resonates with me. When I was a kid my grandfathers husky saved me and my cousin from a pack of wolves. We were fishing for catfish at a small river. Directly in front of us it's was maybe 8 inches, to the right much deeper. 8 sets of eyes appeared in bushes across river..25 ft or so. We froze. Next I know, Bozo is in front of us. We thought he was gonna get killed. One wolf came out. Flanked by another. The rest stayed back. We ran. Got some adults, who got guns. You could hear the fight. Then it got quiet. They came back with a limping Bozo and two dead wolf in back of truck. One shot one not. At the time I didn't understand what was going in. Now I know Bozo could've been a pack leader if he'd chose to do so.

It's clear the cat did not bring its rear claws into play. The dog still had a belly. Rules out direct under chin attack. You say cat prolly sickly. Slowing its thought process, reaction time and ability. All of that could also have come from head to head collision at initial contact. Also keep in mind a puma s bite force is in 300 to 350 range. While a dogo is about double that. Puma are ambush predators. Dogo were bred originally as war dogs. This engagement was out og pumas element and squarely in dogs. And there is a unknown factor that kept the puma from bringing all 4 sets of clawes to bear. All we do know is puma lost, dogo won....took a thrashing...but came away with the W. They are now 4 pen lines. And bite force matters. Alot. 500 psi on a neck is a real ...deadly...problem. like I said, it's possible puma was sick. It's possible it was young. But even a young puma knows how to use It's weapons. Initial contact and its immediate aftermath is also a valid possibility. A animal with a attack plan needs only a split second to execute that plan. I know this because even a clearly more dangerous adversary can make a mistake..take a lucky blow... miss a strike. The dogo did not take that cat under the mouth or his belly would have been toast. It's more likely it was back of neck for kill strike. How is got there, if that's the spot, is a mystery, but it explains some things. Just like your ideas do.
Pound for pound Champs can and do lose. This is fact. I watched a 50lb pit obliterate a pit about 90. The latter was considered the "pound for pound best there is". The smaller dog had to have a leg amputated because it was literally about ripped off. Bone completely crushed. (That bite force I mentioned) the mistake....it let go. The smaller one did not give up it took its shot and got the other by the neck , underside, and simply didn't let go. Half the size, half the power. Replay that fight 10x and the average would go to the pound for pound best. But it only takes 1. I don't condone or participate in dog fights. I found this out simply asking why the dog had 3 legs. They showed me the video.
In the end, all I'm saying is , could be sick, small, young, or anything else...or it could be it just wasn't the cats day. It happens. Often.
There is a video on CZcams of a pack of lioness attacking a huge water buffalo or something...it had horns. One if the lioness tried to take it from front and was skewered, bounced around and tossed. Where were the rest? Behind it. Trying to bring it down from the back, away from the weapons, then go for kill blow. One learned a lesson..prolly it's last. This is a hunt I'm sure is and was executed dozens of times. Just wasn't that cats day.
Pound for pound bests have bad days.
I think all the possibilities we've discussed are valid. We will never know the means to the end. Only who survived.

The dog did confront a Puma before it reached the girls.
During the Dogo/Puma scuffle the Puma was dominating and scarred the Dogo with its long claws and long, sharp teeth.
The Dogo’s owners arrived in time before the Puma killed the Dogo.
With rifle in had, the owner fired twice,
    Killing the Puma.
They returned to their farm with Dogo in arms, bleeding from face and many other deep wound.
It was healed later. Dogs heal quick and are tolerant to pain in these instances.
However, they never explained about shooting the Puma nor how they rescued the Dogo from near death.

Place a live Puma in a cage and throw in the meanest, baddest Dogo in with it.

@@derekrobertson6038 Yeah, only issue is with the information i managed to discover. It is heavily flawed and plausible for the cause of fabrication. No evidence is provided, and the stories are inconsistent. And it is only stories when they refer to a Doggo killing a Puma. And the story provides no proof or foundation, i.e, blood, body, disposition, etc. Simply a fabricated story to increase the number of doggos in households, and they are probably so petty to give the Doggo the title, “PuMa KiLlEr”. When it isn’t competent of such, and when it is recorded, 100% of the time it is human intervention, i.e Firearm, declawed/defanged, malnourished, age, ALL OF THE ABOVE, etc. De-fanging is the equivalent to removing the doggos teeth and expecting it to do any damage.. it won’t. They also remove the claws in deliberate intentions to provide the Doggo with the title. In cages, secluded areas, abandoned buildings, etc. There has been some recorded battles where they have no fangs/claws and it is recorded for the intention to show that the doggo kills the puma. Which is just messed up and petty since all they care about is the Puma losing. As if it were some damned puppet. Stupid dog owners, some obviously. Attempt to look over the narrative, a puma will never lose against a doggo, a young Puma can even take on a full grown dog. There is a video out there proving my point, until human shot it in the head. And it was 2v1, with Puma hindered with a damaged leg and a trap. And he was battling against all odds. This story consists 100% of the proof that builds a true story, 40kg puma gives work to a full grown 50kg, VERY! unfair must i say, the dogo also had a collar intended to defend the neck, the Puma was a warrior, but ended up getting shot in the head by stupid dog owners with an ego
