As an Australian fan, I am actually not all that upset by our loss because for a long time, many people here have known we no longer have the players to match it with the best in the world. To win the World Cup, you need to know how to play against Park the Bus teams and Hyper-Attacking teams and need to have good fair play and sportsmanship. Korea clearly do not have that. I will put my money on Japan all day, every day.

Japan's on another level in Asia. Even proved themselves in last world cup, beating Colombia, tied current African champion Senegal, showed one of the best games in the competition against Belgium. I think this Japan side can go a long way in the World Cup. They are very technically gifted, quick and physically stronger than previous generations. Don't be surprised if they get to semis or even a final or winners. Anything can happen.
By the way, please don't knock down Australia in your comment. We may not "geographically officially" part of Asia. But in terms of Football, historically and spiritually we have been. From 1970s to 1982 WC qualifications, the AFC and OFC were basically merged and we competed together despite separate confederations. In fact Australia and New Zealand were in many groups in WC Qualifiers with Asian teams, played teams as varied as Iran, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. Look up these World cup qualifications for Asia and you will see that, Prior to 1970s, we also played Asian teams but we were all merged together with Africa, Asia and Oceania teams (less countries entered in those days).
When Australia qualified in 1974 WC and New Zealand in the 1982 WC, it was through merged AFC/OFC qualification. SO not only Australia but Oceania have a connection with origin of Asian WC qualification in Football.
By the way, I think Australia joining AFC has made the stronger teams better, like Japan, Korea Rep, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and even most of the Arab countries, Uzbekistan, and even the Indian subcontinent and ASEAN have improved more than ever in history of AFC.

Remember the name of Kaoru Mitoma. He is still in his second year as a pro and will land in the Premier League next season. In my opinion he is the best player in Japan right now.

He is very good but Junya Ito is better performer. He is probably the best player in Belgium right now, where they both play.
Not forgetting the fantastic Tomiyasu and Endo, both brilliant defense based players.

Watched the game last night and Junya Ito was the best player on the pitch. Mitoma is young and he will grow better with the right opportunities. As usual, what's missing from Japan is decisive forwards. Hopefully at least either one of Daizen Maeda or Kyogo Furuhashi can be one of them. Japan will also need defenders who can read the game to go far in the WC.
