Rovan Q Baja THOUGHTS SO FAR

  • Hi all,
I have had 3 runs or so now on my Rovan Q. All with a different engine ( KM 30.5) as my Rovan 29 had issues from the start. All resolved swiftly by Rcmodelz where I bought the car.
So far after the initial engine frustrations its been a lot of fun!
There are definitely things that can be improved as you would expect but for the money i am happy with the std car.
Make sure you fit a remote kill switch before you run any 1/5 car!!!! its dangerous if you do not.... i personally would not run at all before fitting 1!!!!!!!
Hope you enjoy the video, running vids of this car to come ;)

I have a full size Baja , when I got it it didn't steer very well either . I had to up grade the steering linkage to aluminum & shim the rack and shorten the screw for the servo saver so you can tighten it up, definitely better now

To get good steering action from symsteer I found using a fg spring near cured slop

Hey, nice review. Good to see a Baja again, as I said previously with all the high priced ALX stuff on your channel ;)
About the play on your steering, it's the servosaver. I bought a symmetrical system for my normal 5B and it's the axle going through the servosaver. The diameter of the axle is a bit to small for the inner ballbearing ring, so it wobbles. First it will help a bit if you make a spacer out of alloy, about 4.8 - 5mm thickness and than drill and countersink a hole through the chassis and bolt the underside of the saver axle down to the frame. Than make a larger hole in your alloy skidplate, so you don't have to take all the front portion bolts off when you need to undo the steering. Second, the saver spring is to weak, so you can best strap a zipty around the 2 pieces to keep them more secure together. Of you accidentally crash, the zipty will break first. But the saver will do it's work, and the steering is much more improved.
If you replace the servos, check out the JX CLS5830HV waterproof for the throttle/brake and the pdi-hv2060mg for the steering. These servos will do very good in the baja, are HV so you can run lipo and are really great great value for the money.
Give me a shout out, if your going to try them in the Q.
    Curious for the next video!
    Cheers from Holland!
    Daniello

One mod worth doing mate is cut that exhaust about an inch from the engine head and join the two parts with some tubing (19mm ID). Stops the engine head breaking if you take a shot up the rear! lol

Ryan cheers. 👍. Yes potential for issues... but most rc regardless of price has the need of the odd upgrade here n there. It’s the level of quality that drops a bit I think. U kind of get what u pay for in general life.... with the odd hidden gem. Def things that lack a quality feel on this car. Predominantly disappointing r the stiff shocks for me

Void X RC cool mate. I started with a Tamiya etc. Still like those kits! 1/8 is great fun. I’m loving the 1/5 as im involved with a cpl groups that meet and run them. Depends what suits your situation. I really want to get back to the track with my 1/8 nitro/ e buggy’s this year tbh! 👍👌🏼

My Baja turns in fine, I find a wider rear track and softer front suspension helps a lot with turn in ...
Servo saver , tie rod ends , ball joint sockets and arm pin holes suffer fast wear and get very sloppy steering ...

Im really thinking of buying this rovan Q but i wanna know how it feels? Solid rig! Like a-arm wise ? Those the wheels feels wobbly/loose once on ? Is there alot of play in steering otherwise the isue u mentioned... Where would one order upgrade parts for them? Like the front shock tower brace u got and chassi brace?

  • @bryce_949
    @bryce_949 Před 5 lety

I have the same issue my pinion nut got rounded off too how do you get it out? If you want to improve your steering and throttle/braking, trying a LiFe receiver battery by Spektrum. It helps the servos a lot and fits perfectly in the receiver box

  • @fifth-scaleproductions8878

RC Lemonade is a really great channel with awesome content but he has less than 700 subs. I think it would be awesome to help him out and give him some subs. He is very informative and he gave me his email so he could help me decide what my first R.C should be (he recommended the Kyosho Rage 2.0 RTR) and he was very nice & helpful, plus he responded very quickly to my questions. Thank you to whoever reads this. ✌️😎👍

  • @fifth-scaleproductions8878

My km 001 from rcmodelz , had the receiver switch fail and my 3rd channel switch is only a basic one whicj doesn't turn of engine with no radio power .. Was Still under warranty and they only honour radio gear mind you ... It ran away hit a wall and bent the chassis kick up and top plate , snapped a bottom arm and lost a wheel bearing £60 worth of bits and they basically told me to go away and deal with it in so many rather rude terms. All because of a faulty £3 switch !!!
Won't ever buy another model from them again , would rather buy direct from km next time ..
Rc modelz is a greedy unfair company , selective on who they help , and always seems like they only help people who can advertise the help via CZcams for publicity.. Which is extremely poor customer service !! And if I had known this before, I would not have bought from them!!
Build quality of the km stuff is awesome (at least my model has been perfectly reliable except this issue ! Although it can be said for some buggy's from new, aren't the same quality it seems ) so if rc models had honoured the warranty they would have gained a valuable customer who would have spent my money with them for spares and upgrades ,I now go else where and happy to do so. Just spent £200 in upgrades from other suppliers , parts slightly more expensive but better customer service!

Yes! a bad experience that rc modelz could have avoided by offering the better customer service which u recieved..
Its rather "odd" they wouldn't do anything at all to help me but helped you with a brand new engine.. Which is never under warranty .. But wouldn't replace my warrantied electrics/damaged parts .. Favouritism , unfair and unprofessional service from them to say the very least. Didn't even offer me something as little as a 5% off code for their site on repairing my Baja.. Selfish money grabbing wankers, all of them that is aswell!👍
I'm not the only one its happened to either!! Seen and heard some right horror stories about them so be warned people !! Quick in advising what model to get /what upgrades .. But don't want to know if a warranty claim is made .. Wish I had gone to trading standards now but I'm usually not a shitty person like that.. Wish I did now.
      Anyway nice shorty mate!!
