  • A fascinating TV documentary clip, relating to poular 1960s toys. These include Action Man and Barbie dolls. Other strange toys of the period are included. Of course, many of these toys are now highly collectible and go for very high prices. Hope you enjoy it.

I had a Tressy doll. She had a key that was turned in her back and made her hair grow.

That guy makes it sound like gender specific toys are bad. Does he not realise people have specific genders.

In addition to the general dumbassery of this "documentary", by leaving at an important part, the inference is that Action Man figure was invented in Britain. No, it was invented in the USA, as GIJoe. Palitoy was an existing toy company, and they acquired the license to make GIJoe in Britain with their own branding. That branding and the accessories was what Palitoy "developed", not the action figure itself.

I really see no problem with gender based toy's ....it all seems quite normal.

Why do British TV Presenters always have to be so pretentious and boring? This was completely not funny....although they seem to think they are so clever.

I don't know where Action Man was sold but it wasn't the US. There was G.I. Joe and that was it.

In America we had "captain action" and "action jackson", but no "action man". (would have been funny to put a tiny wind-up gearbox inside the head to drive the eyes around).

Why did the Nazi soldier have a sten gun? Stens were an Allied weapon - the germans never manufactured or used them!

Politically incorrect, gay, sinister... oh Damn! How terrible those days were! Thank god we're far more advanced now. Kids' toys now are so safe and proper; like Homies that teach kids how to be gang-bangers and of course depict proper cultural representation. "Viva La Raza!" (Tongue-in-cheek.)
