I have a very similar feeling about Covid-19. On one hand it seems obvious that everyone has to shelter. On the other hand it seems that if we could just get the deaths over with, that too might be a satisfactory solution. Yes, these points of view seem contradictory, but maybe we should just think of them as two legitimate strategies, of which one or the other might eventually prove itself better, but we do not yet know which is better. Or maybe we need a mixture of both?

Aristotle thought that reading would diminish the ability to remember properly because reading is a way to transmit data to/from someone you can’t see. With the invention of broadcast many people began not thinking for themselves and on the same schedule. The internet became an exponential of a problem we all kind of knew, but were hoping would resolve itself. The problem of the Tower of Babel. We’re all watching the same thing but having different interpretations, for good reasons. These interpretations become the only differences as long as we’re all agreeing that whatever the thing said is what we should be talking about. We get stuck in a position and and nothing gets done.
Death and rebirth. Kill the notion the thing dictates what the positions are. Your interpretation of the positions or of the thing itself may be what’s in the way

Here in TX they are saying rural hospitals might permanently close unless the state &/or federal gov bails them out. The healthcare systems should have been monitored locally to determine when/if the extreme measures were needed to prevent the healthcare systems from being overwhelmed. Instead the entire country based stay at home restrictions off of New York’s situation.

The lack of a pictorial presentation of those who have died is a problem. Tragedy is understood on a human level not by speeches or statistics but in our ability to see it. The photography of the Civil War and the Holocaust are examples. So far we’ve not seen any pictures or videos of the 90,000+ dying or dead. This isn’t about spectacle or shock value but about the true human experience and our instinct to make good or bad choices. We have become insulated from death and birth as a society; it’s been sanitized and removed from our experiences. I don’t think it’s been helpful for us psychologically. It allows us to live in a strange twilight zone where we are cut off from two of the most important events of human existence.

So the critique at the beginning about short term selfishness, by Eric, seems invalid...
Rational individualism (Objectivism) is not “do whatever he or she wants and just leave everyone else alone.”
Eric knows very well that a rational person assesses the relationships in their life, and acts accordingly, hopefully rationally.
“Collective action” is the real abstraction here.. only individuals can act.
Eric seems disingenuous at best here... because he’s well aware of Objectivism.

Lex - love you , man, but can I give some feedback on your interview style? Please stop looking down at your questions for so long and not engaging with the guest! They're your questions, right? Surely a micro-glance at a bullet-point will remind you, don't read every frikkin word from the page! You'll get more from your guests if they feel truly engaged .. just sayin. Love the channel.

I couldn’t disagree more. I honestly had to re-watch twice more bc I truly am blown away by his style overall, and manner of speaking. It’s very rare. Also I didn’t get the impression at all that Eric didn’t feel engaged, he seems like enjoys talking to Lex.

@@amykarpowicz2510 Fair enough , your opinion, and I cannot deny he's successful and again I really like Lex/the channel.
Just saying that I find myself shouting at my PC sometimes ... stop reading your questions (as if someone else wrote them) !

I'd love this kind of conversation in private.
    I don't think it's a great idea in public.

@@bryanslankster7937 . The reason we're in this mess in the first place, is that whenever a great tragedy or disaster happens, those that wish to exploit the situation to their own benefit, say that it's not the right time or place to discuss it. Or it's too soon to talk about why it happened. On the contrary, while it's still happening, and while it's fresh in people's experience, is precisely the time and place to openly discuss it and find solutions which will help if the situation occurs again in future.

what i don't get is Trump says he chats on the phone to these vip presidents kings and yet he doesn't ask them the ultimate question...."what the hell happened?" so maybe its truly a private convo that even if u are a democratic society its all #hushhush #shhh
