I think people would use it more if there was a live transcription feature like Google voice memos. Apple might have to GREATLY and I mean GREATLY improve voice recognition.
I don’t know how good live transcripts it didn’t seem to be at the top notch of its game when I was using it on iOS 17, then again, the person was talking to was cutting out and not speaking very clear, but the text to speech recognition on the keyboard been using a lot and it’s been working really well. I actually type this whole message.

I have used this app for years. Two very big things missing from this with Apple is: not being able to start this with your AirPods on a locked device. You can press the button on your AirPod for Siri to start and tell her to use the app, but then you need to unlock your phone first. That’s a massive shortcoming when you drive and want to stay eyes on the road. Second is that you can’t easily take any recording and instead of sending or copying it, have it transferred to text. That way it would be super easy to get from spoken word to text using the one same app. I would pay for those features when integrated like that.

I’d love to see a video on Reminders, but not only the basic features, but the integration with other apps and capabilities like Calendar, Maps, Notes and Siri, etc. Also, a video on using Shortcuts to produce a CVS file to use with numbers maybe even showing how to pull data from your Health Data.

Recordings of voice or music via this are amazing...nigh-on perfect...You can also actually name the recordings in editing without the need for location....

Outstanding video, so apologies if my question was already covered and I just didn’t grasp it. Is there a way to cut a section out of the middle of an audio recording and have the two sections on either side then come together to create a new, shortened video? Similar to video editing where you can take a video clip, cutting out of middle portion and joining the two remaining sections together to create a new clip. AKA, a ‘ripple delete’. I thought that’s where you might go next after you showed how to record/replace over a previously recorded section. Thanks!

Also, the Voice Memos app is available on iMac and MacBook. I was airdropping recordings to my computer then drag-and-drop the file into my video project. But I can just open Voice Memos on my computer, edit if needed, and drag-and-drop directly into my video project.

Apple con iOS 17 ha incluido transcripción de "audios" en su app de mensajería "mensajes". Porque no ha incluido la transcripción tambien a su app de "Nota de Voz" en iOS 17??

Thank you for this helpful video. I knew most of the features, I used to use it most days, in and out of the office, at lectures, workshops, ... until Apple took it out of iTunes. That is, when I synchronise the iPhone with the Mac, I don't know where it goes, so I stopped using it. I should call Apple, but if anyone can help, much appreciated.
When I was a kid, I used to love my tape recorder. Now that I have one built into my phone, it’s a feature I almost never use.
It’s because you have been distracted visually. As a kid you were interested in many things.

Fernando, Thanks for doing this video. I am trying to record a song that I'm playing on my piano. I do know how to trim from the beginning and at the end. However, I once tried to delete in the middle and it deleted all of the beginning. Is it possible to delete part in the middle but keep the beginning and ending. Unfortunately, that time I lost some of a recording of what my mom was saying. She just recently passed away so it was a horrible mistake. I don't think there is a way to get it back. It seems like I could have retrieved it if I had deleted all of it. Any thoughts on that? Now I know to save an extra copy of my recording before editing an important file. Thank you again. Carolyn

Thank you for this video. Very informative. :) I was looking for something that wasn't included and figured it out. I permanently deleted a VM that I wanted back on my phone and so I emailed the backup from my computer, downloaded it onto my phone. The downloaded file went into my iphone downloads folder. Went there and then clicked on the audio file and it opened into another screen. There I was able to click the share icon (bottom left) and the VM app was an option to share to. Et voila! It copied it back into my VM app. :D
Trimming ends is fine speeding up silence is fine, but can you cut in the middle of recording silent portions completely I don’t think you can

I understand some video editors who make these videos for 9to5mac AppleInsider MacRumors etc use Final Cut Pro Adobe Premier or Da Vinci Resolve BUT “AVERAGE” users SHOULD get SOME iMovie related videos
I noticed that in my Files app on my iPhone and iPad DOES NOT DISPLAY VIDEO FILES IN FOLDERS WITH the iMovie icon on the folder and when I try to SAVE an iMovie file to iCloud Drive the file DOES NOT EXACTLY MOVE BETWEEN DEVICES

I may have missed it being discussed in this video, but Voice Memo function would be so more valuable if you could link a voice memo to set a date, activity/event/task to the calendar, reminder and or notes app. That would be awesome. I like it but I don't know how to share into a video. Please advise. Surprised you didn't mention that.
I use it frequently - not directly but to create Notes and Reminders. When creating a new note I use the litle microphone lower right - it actually transcribes my note even when speaking Danish ! Cool.
I’m confused. I thought it didn’t transcribe the voice memo. And if you’re talking about the Notes App how do you activate the mic in the Notes App and play the voice memo simultaneously?

My name is Diane, and I am blind. I use the iPhone Screen Reader. It is called Voiceover. To turn it on, go to settings, scrol down till you get to accessableity. Then choose Voiceover. Remember, when using Voiceover, you hear the name of the item you want. And then you 1 finger double tap the screen. I hope this helps. If not look for video's on how to use Voiceover on your iPhone or iPad.

I use the voice memos apps to record my commentary when making videos. Could I use more powerful audio apps to record my voice for my videos? Yeah I could. But they're also a lot more complicated to use, and the voice memos apps gets the job done very easily which is really convenient for me
Is there a way to keep the playback speed that you saved it as in voice memos, when you share it to IMovie? Mine keeps going back to original speed, but I want to speed it up without the pitch changing.
Hello, I need some help, I have an iphone 6s, I have 12 voice memos on my phone, about 1,2 gb, but in icloud, manage store I have also 590 mb on voice memos list. So, I am a noob :( Those memos voice from icloud, are different compare to my 12 voice memos from my phone, intern store? And how to check and see those voice memos from icloud? Hit the three doors and down a little ways in the share menu there Ab option to save to files.
I was hoping you might address if there was a way to import a prerecorded MP3 into the voice memos. Like say I have a clip of my niece singing and I'd like to somehow load it into voice memos to keep it handy there to listen to. Is that a possibility? Or would maybe notes be better for this? I want to keep it separate from my iphone video/photos app, and I don't want to keep it on a webpage or in an email.
Its possible you can share and save it to voice memos.
If you want to organize audios in folders, its better using apples files app.
I use both of those apps together which really do a lot.
You would have to use Mp3 Converter, As Voice Memos works with M4a files.
I use voice memo for texting when I’m multitasking and I think it’s great. A lot of us don’t even know the app exists lol 🤷🏾♂️

I was actually looking for an easier way to transcribe my memos into written text. Slowing the voice down helps, of course. I'd like an easy way to stop and start it without it timing out so fast.

Any tips on how to add background music to a Voice Memo after recording? Was trying to use iMovie, but it just puts the soundtrack at the end of the imported Voice Memo rather than behind it as background music.
Voice Memos is only a 1 track recorder, like a tape recorder. If you are looking to do multi track recordings, like voice and background music, then you need to use Garageband or similar.

You might find the payed version of Audio Memos better for that.

No, it can't.
So I have a recording that is too large to text,msg, or email. How would I split the recording in half to then send in two parts?
The only way I can think of would be to duplicate the recording so that you have two copies on your phone, then go trim the first one so that you only hear the first half of the audio and then save it. Then go to the second recording (the duplicate) and trim it so that you only hear the last half of the audio and save it. Now you’ll have two different parts of the same recording that should be easier to share.

Apple has a lot to learn from Google on how to develop a proper voice recording application.
Any way to undo a trim or edit? I messed up and my whole thing got deleted I meant to trim a few seconds off, and it trimmed all but a few seconds lol 🤦♀️ I don’t have anything showing up as recently deleted, and I think that’s because it got “trimmed” and not “deleted” Please help me to recover the original. 🙏
Sorry, you can't get that back. Always play your finished file before your final trim. Also, look at the time line and see how much you have trimed. You can also duplicate your recording before editing. This will give you the original coppy in case of mistakes.

You can share the voice memo to the files app or via email or messages. It sends a m4a file you can then export/attach wherever.
