The Entire Saiyan Saga | Dragon Ball Z Manga
Following the events of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, "Raditz", Goku's long-lost brother, appears on Earth and reveals Goku's true Saiyan heritage. Raditz informs Goku that he's a Saiyan warrior sent to conquer Earth, but due to a head injury, he lost his memory and became a kind-hearted person. Raditz attempts to recruit Goku to join him in his conquering mission, but Goku refuses. In order to force Goku's compliance, Raditz kidnaps his son "Gohan". Goku teams up with his former arch-enemy "Piccolo" to confront Raditz, and after a fierce battle, Goku sacrifices himself to hold Raditz in place, allowing Piccolo to use his powerful Special Beam Cannon technique, which kills them both. Before Raditz's death though, he reveals that two more Saiyans, "Vegeta" and "Nappa" are on their way to Earth, and are even stronger than he is. With Goku now dead and training in other world, the Z Fighters must survive until his return in one year to battle the Saiyans. Will this challenge prove to be more than our heroes can handle?

Hold on a minute....now I love dragon ball as well but I ain't putting it over one piece. Dbz went from having adventure to being kinda bland. After the namek saga you can just keep up with the fights and not miss a thing. Although dbz is the goat, I have to say one piece is a better all-around show.
This is literally one of the easiest ways to learn about Dragon Ball Z without the fillers.
Goku’s fight against Vegeta is definitely one of the best fight in DBZ. The fact that Goku couldn’t defeat Vegeta alone even after training with king kai makes it even better as it shows that Goku doesn’t always win fights and that Goku still has room to grow. But even when Goku loses he has one thing that Vegeta doesn’t, which is allies. When Vegeta was about to crush Goku for good, his friends arrived in the nick of time to save him. Even when Goku was unable to fight anymore he has his friends to fight in his stead. With the combined effort of a crippled Goku’s spirit bomb, Gohan, Krillin, and Yajirobe, they managed to defeat Vegeta.

THE THUMB POSE STRIKES AGAIN
The moment where goku realises he killed his grandpa made me cry when I first saw. To see such an up-beat, happy-go-lucky, eternally optimistic character's morale get truly shattered like that cuts deep. When goku, the warrior who never gave up in the past, even when all his damn limbs were fucked against piccolo, actually accepts his fate and resigns to go to the afterlife is one of the most memorable dragon ball moments for me.
I feel bad for Chi Chi in this saga tbh. Just imagine receiving the devastating news of your husband’s demise, only to discover that your young son has been abducted by the very individual who once subjected your husband to brutal torment. A year passes before she’s reunited, but the reunion is far from joyous. Her 4 year old son lies unconscious, and your resurrected husband is barely clinging to consciousness on the floor, after narrowly escaping being crushed to death. It’s no surprise she forbids her son to fight, as she doesn’t want her son to suffer or get hurt like her husband.
You definitely have some good points. I just cant get past the fact that shes so annoying. 😂

Such a great point 🔥 I was literally thinking about that the other day.
The fight against Vegeta was by far Goku’s most humiliating defeat. Vegeta tortured Goku so badly to the point where Goku even lost consciousness. After breaking almost all of Goku’s bones, Goku could only lay on the floor, not even frieza defeated Goku this badly. In the end Goku ended up needing his friend’s help even after training with king kai.
But the same could be said for vegeta because during the beam clash goku had over powered vegeta and at that point vegeta had essentially lost the battle to a 'low class warrior' which is why he resorted to the great ape to keep his pride in tact in any way he could but goku did really get shot on after vegeta transformed

I would like to make a big note that Yamcha’s death was a noble one because he knew that the saibamen might be a danger if they don’t be careful. He took a bullet for Krillin knowing if Krillin got killed again then he won’t be revived by the dragon balls again since he died once before.
He cockily said he'd fight all 4 then got blown up for his arrogance

and he knew deep down they were not to be taken lightly. As Vegeta told them to not hold back.
I just wish Yamcha didn’t die in such a stupid way I wanted to see him use his spirit ball attack. If yamchas spirit ball, tiens tri beam and krillins kameha all hit Napa together he would have been in trouble not to mention if you add in piccolo with special beam cannon and gohan masenko Napa would have been toast way before gokus arrival.
No just your narration, the edit, letting us see the Manga panels with dialogs AND color.

55:46 ignoring how this shot became a meme. Yamcha dying here is actually a great story choice if you think about it.
Yamcha was there since the first arc before krillin he is a veteran. So having him be the first one to die shows that the arc is not playing around anybody can die. it makes fear because the Saiyan haven’t even done anything. It was one of their goons. What are they going to be capable of?
Honestly, the only reason I think this became a meme is because everything else that happens to the guy after the series.

35:19 This scene was the only episode of Dragon Ball Z I ever saw as a kid, I remember it being night, I remember the tail, I remember Piccolo being there and fighting the beast transformation, but I had NO idea that was Gohan and not Goku. This just unlocked a memory, oh my.

I never understood why they waited to revive goku. he clearly needed to travel back to earth regardless 🤷♂

I think Goku explains that he thought he'd instantly be brought back to Earth after the training, leading to the problem.
Because he was going to stay in the Afterlife to train. Goku had Uranai Baba deliver the message. They were supposed to wait a year, but Vegeta and Napa show up a month early. So Goku had to have them wish him back to life, but he had to go to the check in station. Goku thought he was gonna get teleported there.

He specifically asked to wait one year to revive him because he was going to train with King Kai to get stronger. He knew the other saiyans were coming at that time. Now what threw ME off was why TF did Goku not get transported back to Earth when he was wished back 🤦🏾♂️ it's like tension just HAS to be created 🤣🤣

I always loved how brutal the old dbz fights were
When i was a kid seeing Piccolo get his redemption protecting Gohan from Nappa, I was so upset he died right before Goku got there to see his biggest enemy toss his life away for his son.
So many childhood memories!
Gohan was able fight with Vegeta, many people forget this.
Base Gohan at the end of saga was probably stronger than base Goku.
If we count max power then Gohan still win cuz Oozaru is x10 power, Goku used only kaioken x4.

How did you decide whether or not to translate makankosapo and genki-dama as special beam canon and spirit bomb?
I figured the English translations would resonate better with viewers. Most people don't reference the moves in their original names.
Curious. Knowing what we know now things got pretty close when fighting off the saiyans. I wonder if they had another 6 months of things would go more smoothly or if the Saiyans were so overwhelming that it wouldn't matter.
