Roku devicrs die every cpl yrs. I have brand new sony. Was a gift. I have deal with roku in my bedroom. Shows lose sound. I get back on and it goes odd again hour later. Idk what ill do but roku and firestick is amazon. B4 u kno it, all u have is amazon. We're all peeps. Lolol good day sir

Biggest complaint is that you can’t surf channels like on a regular TV cable box. You have to go back to a menu to choose the program or if you know the channel number you can punch the numbers in. Sometimes you just want to mindlessly surf through channels to see what’s on and you can’t do that on the Xumo box or a streaming App.

I am not so sure that you are correct about that last part, "or a streaming app". I have their Spectrum TV app on my smart TV, and it doesn't just allow punching numbers in, or choosing from the Guide, but also I can just hit the channel +/- buttons to surf through channels. The problem is, that doing that, just like the rest of the app, is laggy and slow and it's not the TV, just the nature of streaming apps and one of the reasons I hate them compared to a regular set top box receiver.
Sad thing is, that surfing channels is such a common behavior for decades, that if they were smarter, they would have designed it such that it buffers a little of the preceeding and succeeding channels' content so it can change channels faster, when it detects that channels are being changed with short duration between each. It could buffer in SD res and never have those stupid blinking dots and half blued-out screen which is just dumb. When are companies going to learn to never plastic extra junk on the screen until I press a special button because i want to see extra junk?
You can disable the Live TV on startup via the settings. There's even a dedicated button for it
Some additional dislikes: 1) Can't pause live TV 2) When viewing recorded shows on HULU, can't FF through ads 3) Not all network shows are available like HULU, e.g., HGTV does not have several shows that HULU has on HGTV (this one is wierd!)
I hate Spectrum. Frequent outages. Frequent price increases.
I know. I was close to switching internet from Spectrum to T-Mobile 5G home internet because t-mobile was offering 5G internet for $25/month in my area. Fast forward a few months, and now t mobile is offering it for $50/month. Is it ever really about their cost to operate? Feels more like it’s about how much they can get people to pay in my opinion.

Actually just yesterday i called the retention department because suddenly my bill increased, i got the 500mb internet and this xumo thing and brought it down from 196 to 106 per month. Try calling them

Does it support Dolby 5.1 surround sound. The Spectrum app only delivers programs in 2.0 stereo when used through a Roku or similar device.
Definitely like my Roku better. The fly in the ointment is if I return it, then my internet goes up to $90/month because I cancelled my tv service with them. I was told by Spectrum that getting Xumo would be free (learned that was only for 12 months, then $5/month or $60 to buy) and my bill would "only" be $86/month. I was paying $134/month for 8 tv channels and internet. Guess I'll keep the Xumo but use my Roku instead.

Jut got brand ew Xumo spectrum. W tiny boxes for 4 TVs. Taped a show. Watched it. Paused it. Works great BUT you can’t pause live tv. Re they insane? Greatest tv feature in history from 15 years ago and they don’t have it. Bye Spectrum hello Fubo
Is this the same as the Xfinity Flex box? I know that the remote is different with the Xumo box.
Just got the xumo box and I’m lost. You mention you just log in and then your guide is blue and shows channel numbers. Where do I log in? My guide is purple and shows no channel numbers and I don’t have the options across the top of my tv like you do when you show guide, recordings, etc.

First, you cannot pause what you are watching, there's no pause, stop, or play buttons.
The remote activation to pair your volume and additional speakers ( my Bose ) didn't connect nor pair, I couldn't even pair it with my Google pod minis.
On the Spectrum guide for your shows, there's an arrow back, with the HD bxes remote to watch from the beginning, which isn't on the Xumo remote.
I use to work for Spectrum Charter and in the sales, this was promoted as the new way to stream

@7kadoel we rely on pause for similar situation. You can pause within the Peacock app but haven’t been able to pause within the Spectrum app on my basic TV plan. I don’t get why spectrum app doesn’t pause without DVR subscription. Im thinking of getting an off the shelf antenna DVR just to get some of the DVR functionality like pause, without having to pay for it monthly as part of any package. But that would probably only work for antenna content I suspect.
@@puttothetest ugh!! I appreciate finding this out now! I’m just going to stick with my sketchy DVR. They are getting rid of them, per my latest spectrum maintenance guy said. I’m on my 7th DVR in 9 years 🤦🏻♀️ But tell me about an antenna? I supposedly can get some basic channels here in my low income apt I believe? How would that work? @7kadoel yeah I do both: use the tv to scan for channels once you hook up and antenna (all with the tv’s remote). I’m using the base-model Mohu Leaf Antenna taped to my wall and that works good. @7kadoel Nope. And if your on the Spectrum guide for ur services, the arrow back to restart doesn't work because there's no arrow back on the remote. And all of the numbers of your shows you remembered are now all changed on the Xumo.
Going back! I've spent hours learning how to use Xumo & the Spectrum Ap. We have Dennon receiver with 5.1 speakers. Spectrum doesn't know they exist and the sound for anything Spectrum is awful. Anything streamed is outstanding. I will say that the video quality is better than Dish TV but I don't want to fight with the Xumo box/cDVR. It stalls, won't go where it is supposed to all the time and is in general a PITA! Had great hopes, but continuing on with Dish (for now) and my Firestick.
Had it 3 days and returned it. Too complicated for me. I had to use 2 remotes to even get it on. The voice command was good but trying to get a guide with channel numbers was a challenge. The frosting on the cake today was when I was watching the Bills game the screen went black. I tried a couple times and finally got an error code, I looked it up and there was an issue with the XUMO box....that was it for me..back to the Spectrum store it went.

Call their tech support. They have an entire department dedicated to help with xumo and it's set up and helped me with my set up. It's only $5 a month if I rent it to start and if I want to buy it it is only $60 or 12x5. I decided to rent it first in case I didn't like it. So far, I love it
I don't understand the meaning of this since all tvs now have those capabilities already embedded in it
Well for me, as a consumer, I got a pre-smart tv with no ability to run apps so I’m using a device like this already. For the cable companies, I’ve thought a lot about why they’d invest in developing these and my guess is that it gives them better control over the user experience (they don’t have to deal with Amazon or Apple or Google) and perhaps more data analytics of how these are used. Purely a guess though.
Can you use this with an amazon fire tv? Because a spectrum tech came out and set all this up but I can’t figure out how to use it with my tv

Ok well this might be a dumb question but can i just use my Roku instead? Assuming i switch over to a streaming package, is it mandatory that i have to use their Xumo device? Or, similarly to their modems. Can i just use anither device compatible?
@v1bes855 Similar to Disney +, Netflix, etc., you should be able to just subscribe to their app without having to purchase either the Xumo streaming box or their modems/internet service. I have not tried the Roku in a few years (sounds like it would be worth revisiting it).
Just started using it last night and not sure how I really feel about the Xumo player. I found the voice command addition to be very annoying and had to disable it immediately. It's definitely not beating my Amazon Firestick, but I'll have to test it against the Roku system in my television.

It's OK but not great. Doesn't seem to turn on automatically and it takes a few times restarting it. I was given two of them and they charged me for the second one. I returned it and they dropped the charges. I think I'm going to return the other one too. I really don't need it.
I don’t like the new Xumo box even with the power saving disabled it randomly turns off. I can’t even have it on an hour or two without this happening. I have a Roku tv in my bedroom and a fire stick in another bedroom that I use with no issues but until I upgrade my Phillips 4k tv in the living room to a Roku tv or Spectrum app will be available on my extra firestick. I will just use the HD spectrum receiver.
Do you make the 6 didgit code up or is there a curtain one u need to use?
That’s a good question! I suspect the code is unique to my device. And each device probably has its own 6 digit code to activate it so they can link it to each persons account.
Had to return mine. Always got error in software update. Couldn't get it to work.

Do the number buttons work to pull up a channel?
Yes they do, in the Spectrum App I can put the channel number in and it goes there. No “last channel” button but I did find if you arrow down, it gives you a popup row of your most recent channels.
My Wi-Fi got messed up can you show how to connect a network back to my TV my TV is not a smart TV we just got the box and I cannot figure out how to reset it to be able to connect back to the network I have tried everything please help

How do I reset my remote?
1. Hold the ← and + buttons for 3 seconds until the light at the top of the remote turns solid green.
2. Press 9, then 8, then 4 (the light will blink red a few times and then turn off).
3. With your Remote Control pointed towards your device, try pressing the home-icon, then other keys to make sure your remote is working properly.
Considering my internet was down basically for 1.5 days just a week or so ago, I don’t plan on adding more Spectrum services. I also guess the remote isn’t back lit either?

Why do I need an app to program my TV to function?
Can I use the stream box instead of a tradional cable box? If so, can I use the same wires?
While the traditional cable box was wired with a coax cable, the new Xumo stream box can be connected either with an Ethernet network cable or, wirelessly to your network if you have a wireless network. Hope that helps!

What is the difference between Xuma and Roku? One difference is Roku is a one time charge for the equipment of $30 to $60 forever and Xumo is $29 or $350 a year for now until Spectrum decides to raises the monthly charge every year .
Wrong... $5 per month for 12 months then Xumo is paid off/yours to keep. $60 total.

I have the cheapest plan, Spectrum Essentials TV, which comes without Locals. You can upgrade your plan to get locals though. I opted for a cheap indoor leaf antenna to get my local channels for free and that works good enough at the moment.

Nope. Xumo will only work with Spectrum services
Xumo play has been around way before Comcast and Spectrum merged on Xumo

I’m getting spectrum internet and a single xumo box with spectrum tv base package (no local channels, no DVR, no add on packages) for $80 a month for 12 months. From there I will reevaluate based on the bump in costs likely to occur after the 12th month.

@@sparkonthehorizon it’s one xumo box per tv but if your tvs are smart tvs or if you have Roku , Apple TV or similar, you can use the Spectrum TV app on the other TVs with the same login.

The mobile app to makes start up very easy, also being from the oldschool days of big cable boxes this xumo box its a seemless union of both internet apps and cable/live tv chanels, you dont have to keep switching imputs or control remotes , one remote ,

What’s the difference using this box or just the Spectrum app on my tv?
If you have a smart TV with the spectrum app, you can access the app that way just the same - no need for Xumo box. But if your tv does not have the spectrum app, or you have a not-smart-tv like myself, the xumo box is the equivalent of the smart tv, an Apple TV, Roku, fire stick, etc.
Can you go to the channel by entering the number? Spectrum says its not supported on any streaming device.
Yes within the Spectrum TV app on the Xumo box, you can go to channels by their number. It’s a nice feature, most other streaming boxes don’t have that.

Not supported just means not guarantteed aka they don't know. I can enter the number (as well as other methods like the channel plus/minus buttons) using the remote control with the spectrum app on my recent vintage samsung smart tv, and it's a low end TV, nothing special. However, streaming apps lag far more than normal set top box receivers and this is no exception.
So we have 3 of these and it is by far better than Roku. We have them plugged into Roku TV's 🤣

Also in this videos comments, other people were saying that they get locals and even a cloud DVR so I imagine the channels I am getting has to do with the level of the Spectrum TV plan. So mine (being the lowest cost option for the Spectrum TV plan) doesn't have everything included.

you have to pay extra for cloud, and even then you cant pause a show to take a quick break and come back.

Is it worth getting if I already have a smart tv that houses my apps
I think it’s redundant if you have a Smart Tv (unless the Smart Tv doesn’t have the spectrum app). Although I don’t have a smart tv but have an old lcd tv with antenna, and Xumo box and an older Apple TV box. I should add: I do like being able to push the channel numbers on the remote. That only works on the spectrum app on Xumo box (not on the spectrum app on Apple TV).
No, it would be redundant. I've got a SMART TV from Vizio, they have their own mix of apps and constantly update them. All I watch are movies on Tubi, Pluto, and Plex (all free) so no need for a Xumo box, Firestick, Roku device. I use an antenna on the roof to get local broadcast channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, FOX).

I just got this deal and new configuration in the mail today. I ordered Spectrum Essentials last year after avoiding Spectrum cable tv for years. It's really wasn't bad. TV Choice was even better. I may try it again because I kind of prefer having a box to just using the App on the tv. I take it no DVR service or is there an option for other cable tv packages? All I saw was Spectrum TV Essentials.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah I think the actual cable box is way easier to use and would prefer that but the price and the tag-on costs was a lot. You are correct, there is no DVR option within the stream box but I could see them adding a cloud-version like CZcams TV offers. Also no local channels on the stream box but I still have my antenna for those which works great.
I went ahead and ordered it with Spectrum TV Choice. I have a Roku so I didn't really need the Xumo box, but since it's free I thought why not. It should arrive tomorrow.
I have Spectrum streaming tv and get the same channels as Choice. I also have cloud dvr and can record 100 shows from any connected tv.

For those of us who enjoy surround sound, does the Spectrum App on Xumo output stereo only, which is the case on Roku (confirmed by support), or does it output surround sound? I tried asking at a Spectrum store, and they didn't know the answer to this, so I'm hoping somebody here can help.
All I got on my 15 year old TV is stereo and in the interface for the Xumo operating system (which Spectrum app sits on top of) the sound settings reference stereo and Dolby (not sure if that implies surround?). Hopefully someone with a surround sound setup can help here.
Having Xumo support surround sound is similar to how it works on Roku, but the problem is that the Spectrum app does not take advantage of this, and only outputs stereo. Apparently it's been an issue reported by others for at least a year and Spectrum has not prioritized adding this very common feature.

Is the remote IR only? Or is it both IR and RF? My Roku RF remote is nice and includes a headphone plug. I don't have to point it.
Good point, that is a nice feature. my Apple TV remote is the same: don’t have to point it. The Xumo box remote is works the same way. The remote does NOT have to have line-of-sight to the box to get it to be received by the box. I just tested it out.
@@puttothetest Thanks for clarifying. They should be stating that desirable feature in the product descriptions. We see no IR sensor on the box but they can be hidden pretty well.

No there unfortunately is not. Once you are in the guide you can arrow up and down but it’s not the same thing.

No it appears to be built upon a Comcast unit and has their own OS installed. Haven’t heard of any way (yet) to load apps that are not preinstalled.

Yes that is what I am using (a NON smart tv). Tv just needs to have an HDMI port so the Xumo stream box can connect.

I can't stand the Xumo box. My biggest complaint is that it turns itself off after 4 hours. Doesn't matter what I do in settings, it still turns itself off. If that isn't bad enough, when I turn it back on, it's no longer on the channel I was watching. This results in me missing several minutes of whatever I was watching. I have yet to see any message pop up asking me if I'm still watching, though I've seen comments in various forums where people say there is one. Honestly, I could probably get used to it turning itself off, but having to miss several minutes of my show while trying to find my channel again is just too much. Both of my TVs have Roku, so it makes no sense for me to pay $5 a month for each Xumo when I can use the same app for free. These are both going back tomorrow.
Trick to that is to set reminders for say the morning it will stay on.

Note: this is the channel guide for the cheapest plan they offered for the Spectrum TV channels.
@@puttothetest that may be why. DVR functionality is a separate service you have to have either through cloud if you use the app or the cable box with built in DVR. Local channels only show up if your local area broadcast them locally.
Are the channels delayed?
You know I’m not sure. I do not see an east/west label on any of these channels. One of the other live tv services I tried did have that (can’t remember if it was direct tv now, CZcams tv, sling, spectrum choice…tried a lot of these over the years)

Huh? Of course you have other choices. Even if you have to get internet from them, a standalone streaming app widget (or many modern smart TVs with that app support) can pull content from any provider you choose, does not need to be Spectrum or the Xumo.

@@beautyblk You misunderstood. You still have choices for TV even if forced to use the only internet provider in the area. However, you do in fact, also have the choice to not whine about not having choices because of where you chose to live. Obviously, many people wouldn't live in a rural area specifically because of situations like that, and a dozen other things too. It is very much my business to choose where I live, for the amenities that location provides.

No you don’t have to use spectrum tv app. The Xumo box comes Xumo’s own app which has free tv, and tons more apps preloaded like Netflix, Peacock, Prime Video, etc. it just needs an internet connection via any internet provider.

@@shabadu9084 so I just tried in other apps with no luck: tried Pluto TV, Xumo Play, and Plex apps. However they don’t show channel numbers in their guides. So it’s possible that, if you had another app that displayed channel numbers in their guide, it’s possible that the remote could work there using the number buttons. If I find another app like Spectrum, will report back on results, but the ones I use don’t work with channel buttons so far.

You cannot remove apps but you can rearrange them and download apps.

How does Xumo box compare to Roku?
XUMO streaming device is very similar to the RUKO Express 4K, but with channel numbers. I used the XUMO streaming device for 2 weeks and returned it. What Spectrum doesn't tell you is that each app has to be install on each box. There are no instructions provided, and I could not find any instructional videos on CZcams. It took me 3.5 hours to install 2 streaming devices.
The Spectrum XUMO streaming device is NOT worth $5.00 per month per each remote.

This is the 2nd post saying there is a $5 fee. I was told by Spectrum it was free. I gotta really look through the billing because I'm not feeling that few, especially since I don't really need it since I have a Roku television.

How to delete a recorded series???
@user-tm2rd6of3c In the DVR section, when you select your show, if it is part of a larger series recording, there is a button underneath the "Delete Episode" button which says "Series Options"...click that to cancel the recording of future episodes. It looks like you'd have to delete every episode manually, after cancelling the series. That seems really inconvenient! I have a lot of clicking to do...

It's awesome, to many pluses to mention them all. Paying $120 less than AT&T Uverse and with more premium channels and content. Picture and sound quality. The speak command locates channels and shows quickly. Again it's incredible !
Spectrum will go up on you yearly. They lock you in at a good price to start with but then gets higher and higher . Youll be paying as much as AT&T
Got price lock guaranteed for 2 years, but able to get out at any time.
Right now its great but in a few months those taxes and junk start adding on the bill. That's how they milk extra money from us. I remember when i had my bill was 118 bucks a month. Within a year i was paying over 140, then it got to 162 dollars. With all that extra surcharges and taxes added over time. I canceled it and kept the internet and got youtube tv instead. CZcams doesn't have those same taxes or surcharges.

Excellent point! I do not see that feature yet. I can “upgrade” to add on premium channels but even that is a limited list of 4 channels.
Spectrum is pissing me off, so the talked me into staying with them, the ended up upgrading me to 1k internet and the Xumo for less than I was paying for 500mb of internet, just to stay with them. Right out of the box my Xumo didn’t work and after an hour on the phone with the service department they finally decided to replace the device

I’d say so yes. It could be compared to any other streaming box. One thing that set it apart was that the cable company more or less offered a great deal to use it at least until the 12 months intro period Ends, at which point, the price probably is then subject to change, I would guess. So compared to a legacy cable box, It has a lot to offer, but compare it to other streaming devices well, that would be harder to maintain its appeal.
I think so. It might have more Apps, but I'm not sure. I really never use them anyway.

Nope, each of the other streaming OS platforms has more apps available than on the Xumo Box.

Is it senior citizen friendly
I would say no, because it’s not easy to setup or use. A traditional cable box is much friendlier to use. However it is very friendly to fixed incomes because it gives similar live tv channels at a fraction of the traditional cable box package prices (which is why I continue to put up with it).

Yeah it’s only so-so imo. Once she is in the spectrum app, Channel numbers will work but it doesn’t stay in the spectrum app after your turn it off/on again so it’s a bit of a process.
Never got the box. So went out and got a Roku. Box was supposed to be free. So I'm out 50.00
I just got this device, and so far disappointed, Internet keeps going out today. Why Spectrum would think someone would want to have their Cable Service solely dependent on Internet is beyond Logical...... I'll take the Cable Box over an Internet MUST Streaming Box!!

@@cathyroland340 there is a new pioneer tv that just got released with xumo that I bought on best buy then cancel it last night because I didn't realize xumo is together with spectrum and the remote look ugly.
