- Seeing the world's best climber climbing offwidth cracks makes us happy, so we sit down and have a watch. We're guessing Adam hadn't climbed much invert offwidth before this, but we think the video clearly demonstrates a couple of reasons of why he's go good; he's tries to the bitter end, no complaints. Plus adapts incredibly well to a style of climbing that is completely new to him. We're looking forward to seeing you on some more wide cracks soon Adam!!

When are the gloves coming in !!.
the only thing that I like about Black diamond cams is that the bigger sizes have these retaining clips so they can be Racked up closed, other than that the camelots were not that great until I sanded the paint of the Lobes on the contact area, they didnt bite that nice on smoother Rock like the dragons, and of course no extendable sling.
One day Adam will go into the cellar and force Tom into retirement after flashing his project with a hidden kneebar
cellar rules unfortunately ;) but yes flashing the project is a high probability, haha
@@WideBoyz You must welcome Adam into cellar in the same way you welcomed Magnus - full costume!
A good microphone might be a good shout for videos like this, the audio quality makes it a little difficult to hear and I reckon it would boost the quality a lot! Love the videos
I second that! it's interesting to hear their thougts but it was a bit hard to make out what they said at times. A nice mic or just a room with less echo would help here :)
Yes
yes apologies about the audio. we did have an external mic, but had some issues with it, hence a bit of dodgy audio on both this and the Empath video. it will be resolved for any videos that we do like this in the future, as it wasn't mean to be like this :) appreciate you managing to listen through
@@WideBoyz I think its less a problem of the mic than of the room. You need to cut down on the sound's bounce. You could simply hang heavy blankets/rugs on the walls as a cheap solution or invest in sound foam / 703 Fiberglass Board.
I'm sure some of the suggestions could help with sound, but I was able to understand and hear everything. Maybe I'm used to the accent - I must be watching too much CZcams instead of actually climbing. The video was great craic :p
"Belayer looks like he's paying attention, there's not a line of slack lying on the floor" *zooms in slightly onto Pete* 😂
🤣
"good fist technique, knows what he's doing" 😂
How did no one catch that Pete called him O-Dog. Genius.
Was just about to write that comment 😂!
@@EducationProfessional-pc6ep as a non native english speaker whats the meaning/ reference behind?
@@alenanecidova2502 it's a
Joke referencin the gangster phrase "G-Dog"
G-Dog meant a particularly respected gangster, so theywap the G for Ondra's "O"
More of these analysis videos please, amazing content
thanks. yes we'll probs do some more
The casual elevator music in the background as they joke and critique ondra suffering is hilarious
Feels like the climbing equivalent of a video game speedrunner watching a run of a different player. 10/10 would watch on twitch kekw
You guys are so entertaining while simultaneously being super informative! Love it.
great style of video! would love to see more like this
yes i think we'll do a few more, we have a couple more analyse video ideas. thanks fro watching
@@WideBoyz Totally enjoyed the breakdown of the climb. More like this plez !
this is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels on youtube
Thanks, I really enjoyed this. I agree about the mic - that's a pretty cheap fix.
What I find so inspiring about Ondra is how much he is driven by pure love of the sport. He seems psyched for just about anything. I can't wait to see where he takes his climbing after the Olympics.
yes apologies about the audio. we did have an external mic, but had some issues with it, hence a bit of dodgy audio on both this and the Empath video. it will be resolved for any videos that we do like this in the future, as it wasn't mean to be like this :) appreciate you managing to listen through.
yeh its amazing Ondra just loves it all. if there is some rock, he's up for it. always inspiring for us all :)
sitting down from a rager of a day to see your smiling faces has made me feel so much better. Cheers for the content.
This was pure comedy gold, and the music was spot on lol. Nobody takes the piss out of someone/something, quite like you guys. 👏👏
Please do more of these videos. Love it.
thank, yes we plan to do a few more
When I watched the Ondra video the other day, I immediately thought I wonder what Pete and Tom would make of it. Great Vid. I assume you don't have any footage of your guys' climbs, but that would have been cool to compare the techniques.
This is gonna be awsome
You guys are just top value!
Amazing beat down, drag it out effort from Ondra!
brilliant, that brought back a few memories!
thanks Alex!!
This analysis was very helpful, but could you please post a link to the porno from which you got the music?
Thanks!
haha, oh god...
I certainly couldn't get into a "wide pony" position on this and found out mainly to be butterfly jams on the hard section much like how Adam climbed it. I do like the idea though of a right heel in and left foot on the side wall approach.
Only you two could take the piss out of Ondra 🤣
i thought we were quite complimentary, haha
Great video. Awesome to see Ondra have to put in such an effort, and interesting to hear about/see what what was done differently. Still hoping to see you guys take on your "9c strength test" sport grades if that could ever come together. For what it's worth, I didn't notice anything about the audio until a seeing a bunch of people complain about it. Big whoop...
haha, I did (Pete) the 9c strength test just after magnus. you can see it here czcams.com/video/Jmn0jiU5VaU/video.html
@@WideBoyz I did catch that one. I was wondering if you and Mari planned to try a pure sport climb at the 8c+ and 8b grades after doing the test?
I love this sort of content, super interesting
Glad you enjoy it!
This was a good watch.
The office plant adds a nice touch.
It really tied the room together.
I love this wide boyz version of goggle box. 😂
Didn't find anything wrong with the audio here, although I also thought Tenet sounded just fine...this was a lot less confusing than Tenet though. More of these would be awesome, although loved the recent Insta vid with Mr Parkinson as well - just easy fun viewing as always! Keep up the awesome work chaps!
Great video! I remember in your episode of the Reel Rock they briefly showed you climbed this route & I immediately wondered how it was compared to when Adam climbed it. He obviously was absolutely spent after completing it & nearly fell multiple times so I wondered how that climb was for you two?
Pete climbed it first try, Tom second try. I don't remember it feeling toooo bad (Pete speaking here) but we had our top foot turned out, which makes a big differnce, its an easier technique. I think if Adam had have done this he would have had an easier time
Hi guys, I really enjoy watching your climbs, even if they are few. You will definitely be able to climb in the cellar of difficulty 5.25d. You can do it, i trust you.
'Should of went to crack school, we would of sorted him out.. Haha love it!!
Btw, watching Adam Ondra suffer is very entertaining. Good job guys!!
Just watched Eric Carlson with Thor trying to fist and finger a crack, needs to join the school too.
Pete's book arrived too 🙂
Watching you guys watching Ondra might be the best thing ever.
haha
Good effort.
Love this
thanks
I loved this video but would have liked it better if the footage of you guys was the picture-in-picture and the footage of Ondra was the main screen.
Really enjoyed this style of video please do more but please put some soft furniture in that room to help with the sound.
yes apologies about the audio. we did have an external mic, but had some issues with it, hence a bit of dodgy audio on both this and the Empath video. it will be resolved for any videos that we do like this in the future, as it wasn't mean to be like this :) appreciate you managing to listen through. and yes some soft furniture would probably help as well, haha
Hey, I know its been a while. I am still here loving all of your videos. Keep it up Boyz!!
thanks for tuning in ;)
I didnt know i needed thjis
Oh my goodness Tom's hair looks so much better now
How about a video showing what he did Vs what you suggest and why it would be easier ?
More of this please!! And invest in a mic please lol
yes apologies about the audio. we did have an external mic, but had some issues with it, hence a bit of dodgy audio on both this and the Empath video. it will be resolved for any videos that we do like this in the future, as it wasn't mean to be like this :) appreciate you managing to listen through
Don’t complain it’s free, buy them a mic urself if it gets to you
Now we want O-dog versus
M-beast comparison!
Hope A O makes it to the Cel
Should read Hope A O makes it to The Celler
you boys are so wide 😍
Ah yes, the "jug"! 😅
Concrete offwidths would be so good for training (if they actually exist)! I bet if you had a ton of people going around to bridges/larger cracks for a couple years the brits/ppl from the northeast US would take over the crack climbing game. (im from the east coast and im 100% down to see the west coasters get their butts kicked)
Enjoyable commentary
thanks for watching
What id the name of the book you guys show on the video, about foot placement / crack climbing?
Am I the only one that have heard in the begining "This is Hodor in Belly Full of Bad Berries"? Note that it explained the enthousiasm of Tom!
He called Ondra 'O dog', made me chuckle!
Why does the climb stop half way up the crack? I've never been to Indian Creek but I've wondered this before, it seems like the crack keeps going much further and it's not like 25m is a particularly long pitch.
Love a bit of Gogglebox
ONDRA NEEDS TO GET TO THE CELLAR! I'm gonna keep saying it till it happens
haha, one day. probably when we're totally over crack climbing and into something else
is there a video where you two do the same route? you seem to talk about it..?
How about doing one on Mason Earl's Joshua Tree off-width battle WBs?
I love the acoustics, what technique did you use to get such a tinny sound?
Room with an echo and a tin whistle 😎
HK was one of the baddest cats around...his FAs even humble Ondra
If I did this route I would do berry badly
You guys are awesome, btw just as a heads up, the audio has a little echo. If you manage to prevent that you'll have real triple A quality.
Came for the wonderful commentary, stayed for the technique tips!
yes apologies about the audio. we did have an external mic, but had some issues with it, hence a bit of dodgy audio on both this and the Empath video. it will be resolved for any videos that we do like this in the future, as it wasn't mean to be like this :) appreciate you managing to listen through
@@WideBoyz I really liked the video, you guys make me wanna start crack climbing so bad. I'm actually picking up on many terms and techniques while the gyms are closed, but hope to put things into practice asap! Love from Italy
As much as I love to look at Pete's pretty face, I would have preferred you guys in small and the climbing action in big ;)
Great video, audio is not great and you guys know how important is that ;)
Would love to see Tom on this route too
He's the only person to have ever flashed it. Surprised they didnt mention it
@@minime453 Tom or Ondra?
we never got any footage of this route unfortuantely. just photos
@@NOTYOU0BVIOUSLY neither 😂 Pete
@@WideBoyz ah okay, thanks 😅
great
cheers
just a suggestion, I think I would have reversed the videos! Have you two small in the corner, and the video that you are reacting to the main larger video - if you look at all of the super popular "react" channels on CZcams I think this is what they do! Atleast the gaming channels anyways. Anyways you guys are great and would love to see more of these style of videos!
yes i understand this, but we like to keep the content that isn't actually ours to a minimum, hence havinng us as the main picture as that is the original content
Loved this, but maybe drop the music? 🤘🏼
yeh always wondering about the music. maybe should drop it
@@WideBoyz Still well worth the watch. I was hoping O Dog would paddle paddle flipperoo paddle. 🦞🦞
@@billybones4950 he'll only be able to do that in the cellar :)
@@WideBoyz The grading system would be legit 👌🏼
@@WideBoyz It's a bit loud on top of the bad mic quality. More stuff like this though, I really enjoyed it!
Hoping you guys saw shwarma's beavis and butthead meme. 12/10.
Can anyone help me? What is the hardest (non-crack) route that Pete Whittaker completed?
In terms of grade, 8c+ (never tried anything harder)
@@WideBoyz thank you
Kinda bummed you didn't react to Ondra's jamming tutorial at the end.
He didn’t flash, maybe he should Ask Mari for some advice💪💪
Maybe i’m just used to California sandbagging, but BFOBB looks easier than 5.13a to me.
looks or feel?
@@proto8632 either or, i haven’t tried it
@@404am3 I've not either. The route might not look hard but seeing really strong climbers climb it suggests it's not that easy ...
Pete wrote a book?!
When will he visit the cellar?
who knows. you know as much as us
@@WideBoyz ah, too bad. Maybe he is afraid 😂
I would be!
Is it not possible to get higher on this route? It seemed like he stopped in the middle...
we had a look at this when we were there 10 years ago, as we thought the same. its a massive chimney, and looks a bit crap. we thought exactly the same thing before visiting
@@WideBoyz so you decided it wasn't possible then?
@@Jokl92 it looked possible, just really easy and abit crap
what is the book they look at around 3:57?
www.v-publishing.co.uk/books/climbing/crack-climbing/
no spanish subtitles never ?
First comment? 8a+ for the commentary!
Lovely vid, but the silent audio + elevator porn music on top made it really hard to figure out what’s being said (English not being my first language / being half deaf).
Pirate pony power!
Hows the knee doing pete?
getting there thanks, can do all normal things again now, climbing, climbing running, etc. just no movments pulling on the heel. I'll get there, no bother :). thanks
The background music adds nothing and just makes it hard to hear and follow.
This is like watching a video of Michael Jordan critiquing LeBron 😆 love it
Why do climbers lead with feet on this and not hands first?
As you have to use both hands in combination to make them stick in the crack, you then have to take the weight effectively with the feet to move the hands. The way of doing this is putting them above you
@@WideBoyz ok, I get it. Cheers!
Please buy 20eur/gbp external microphone 🙏
We have a microphone, there were problems with it, sound messed up, shouldn't happen again.
More pirate, more pony. That's a T-shirt.
Is this a reupload?
no
count the number of times Tom says cheeky
The ability to hear Tom and Pete wasn't crucial anyway...
Why does he have to go upside down?
It's the best technique used to climb theses types of steep wide cracks. You can hang by your feet whilst progressing your hands which are stacked together
@@WideBoyz ah I see. Thanks for explanation. Great videos btw.
With you guys nattering on, I couldn't pay attention to Adam. So I watched his version 1st then came back to enjoy the two of you narrating with waving arms, paddles, and fists doing the climb virtually. -------- One suggestion: please, please, please get a better room for these. Those empty rooms echo and distort voices which makes it even harder for the auto-captions to function.
Yes we had some issues with the micophone, it's usually not a problem, but I messed up with both this video and the empath one. sorry about that, hopefully won't be making that mistake again. thanks for watching and coping, haha
pain cave haha
Gotta do boogey till u poop next
Fun video but terrible sounds quality. Really distracting.
It's a little hard to understand you guys talking.
A case of, I understand every word but struggle with the meaning
Sound is rubbish btw.
Can't understand a word these guys are sayin
Kill the music. The little jingle got repetitive.
“Knows what he’s doing....” LOL you’d think he was climbing like he’s literally the world’s best climber...
Please please please please please fix the audio before doing any more of these (great!!!) videos... It's painful to watch
yes apologies about the audio. we did have an external mic, but had some issues with it, hence a bit of dodgy audio on both this and the Empath video. it will be resolved for any videos that we do like this in the future, as it wasn't mean to be like this :) appreciate you managing to listen through
Come on guys, get a decent mic. This is hard to listen to.
