    I know how to change cylinder head gaskets, But got to say this is one of the most informative and clear videos I've seen on any vehicle repair video on CZcams.
    Excellent job fellas.

    Best mechanical repair video I have seen. The method of showing what has to be removed then forwarding to show it removed is perfect. I followed your video instructions on how to do a Prius head gasket and then dove into my 2010 Prius last fall; it went well. Now the 4.0L caravan has a blown gasket. Your videos are golden. Think it's time for me to donate :).

    Great job, I would have changed the oil too after that job before starting the engine. It's possible coolant mixed in with the oil. I also would put the car into clear flood mode and crank several times to flow the oil prior to ignition.

    That's a nice trick with just moving the rear exhaust manifold out of the way to get to the head bolts! I've been struggling trying to detatch it from the cat...the four corroded bolts are stuck on there pretty tight.

    Great video, I'm about to try and fix my wife's 2004. One question tho, you didn't seem to bother matching the push rods to where they sat. Most mechanics put them in order on a piece of cardboard. Is it something with these engines and sloppy tolerances and/or hydraulic lifters that make that unnecessary?

I purchased a spark plug thread chaser but I read that while using it, metal shavings will fall inside cylinder hole and cause internal damage.

    Could you help me out? I have that minivan, 3.3, 2010 Flexfuel. While driving on the highway uphill a strong metallic noise started coming from the motor (about 38 miles from the starting point). I still drove, in those conditions, over 250 km. The mechanic says that the motor is 100% gone and that the repair will be over 1,000 USD (I'm in Mexico). Is it possible that the damage is located exclusively in the crankshaft and bearing metals?

Tried to bypass the fuel pump relay using a wire, but still no luck. No fuel coming out from the fuel line. What are the changes that the fuel pump went bad at the same time? Any suggestion what could it be the cause of it? Mine is also 2008 grand caravan. Does this van have inertia or shut off mode? Thanks in advance

    Excellent video guys. Question 1: Was the head leaking oil (reason for head gasket replacement) or just because of mileage? Question 2: You mentioned having the heads machined. Is that a typical practice when head gaskets are being replaced? How long did you have to wait for the heads to be ready for you. Thanks from Vancouver, Canada.

    So I just finished replacing the upper and lower manifold gaskets on my 05 as well as the valve cover gaskets...If I had gone all the way and took the heads off, they HAVE to be reground ? You can't just remove them, change the gasket and put them back right ? I know I sound stupid but I'm not a mechanic, I just knew I could save 5k in labor with the work I've already performed...the engine doesn't seem to be leaking from the head gasket anyway, was just curious..thx.

    I’m sure I’ll be ridiculed for this but I had a coolant leak coming from the radiator and water pump. I had just been topping it off with water until I could get the time to mess with it. We had an unseasonably cold night in Nov and I think the water may have froze inside the cooling system. What’s the chance I cracked the block or cylinder head? I know the van overheated the next day. When I noticed it I limped it home about 3 miles and parked it. My coolant is definitely going somewhere still. I changed the water pump, thermostat, lower radiator hose, coolant temp sensor, and radiator. I don’t see any white smoke coming from the exhaust. Oil looks like straight oil. No leaks on the driveway. Could it just be the head gasket?

    • @patrickdanforth7700

    • @OtherDalfite
      @OtherDalfite Před 11 měsíci

      It's unlikely ice cracked your block. It would expand the coolant hoses first and even if those got to max, you'd probably crack the radiator which is aluminum before you cracked the head or the block.

    Hey im doing this head job on an 08 3.3 and when pulling out the lifter pushrods i slipped and one dropped into the motor. How can i get it out. It was the left side head. When looking from in front of the van its the front of the engine bay(left head) on the far right pushrod. And it went straight down through the little gap. I desperately need a fix to get this out.
