Recently I've noticed a neck jerking that I can't control. A lot of times I don't even notice at first that I'm doing it. Yesterday I was looking up info on tics to try and find out why it was happening, and then it got really bad. Like a tic attack or something? I'm not sure. But it was the worst it's ever been before and it lasted for like 20 minutes and by the time I finally was able to stop it my neck was hurting so bad I was crying. A little bit ago it happened again, not as bad as yesterday's but still worse than they usually are. I have anxiety and some other mental illnesses, so I think maybe that's it...
Anxiety triggers tics and heightened emotions (especially stress but also excitement etc.) Makes them significantly worse and may be the only time you notice them but if you have tics and anxiety you'd still be diagnosed with a tic disorder unless there's a different underlying condition (or medication that possibly causes tics) that causes it then its still a tic disorder. Talking or thinking about tics makes them get worse and neck jerks are one of the most common motor tics (it was my first one, and my partner who has tourettes' ) and motor tics almost always develop before vocal tics. I can't remember where I was going with this I think I had a point but I forgot so idk if any of this information is actually useful my bad 😭

I've had a non-verbal tick for about 7 years now and I've never been to GP about it because I'm embarrassed about it. But now after watching your video I know I probably have a form of Tourettes so just having a label to put on it makes me feel better about myself. It gets worse when I'm stressed or have anxiety. It also gets worse when I get the feeling someone notices the tick and this makes me do it more when I'm around them. Its awful and this stresses me out even more. It's so complicated, I have autism and ADHD and so I've had echolalia, palilalia, echopraxia, palipraxia, and many menta tics (do not know if they have a name) for a very long time... But recently I watched a documentary about tourettes and since then I have multiple tics a day... I’ve started getting tics around a year ago but it was only noticeable more recently. It’s also getting worse so I am enjoying this video for educational purposes
I dont have tourettes or tics, but i clicked on this video because i felt like i didnt know that much about tics! this is really educational and i wasnt very educated about tics! so thank you
After watching this video I really do hope my tics don’t last a year lmao They literally started all of a sudden like 3 months ago and nobody has an idea why and like I’m freaking confused lol
I do not have tourette's but I enjoy your content👍 I, myself, am a 17 year old boy who is diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. I found this out about 2 years ago.
I actually do have Anxiety tics but sometimes (like right now) i tic without being anxious so i asked myself questions about it. Thank you for your video!
I have provisional/transient tic disorder diagnosed atm but we are trying to get a tourettes diagnosis! It's taking agers tho! I've got another set of blood tests next week bc they just want to check ntn else is causing my tics!
Please get your Vitamin D levels tested. I had various tics my whole life until my late 50’s. Mainly head movements and jaw and eye stretches. I went for annual blood test check up and my Dr put me on 50,000 IU of Vit D3 calciferol twice a week for low levels. I noticed a few months later my tics were much less frequent and eventually stopped. Also cured my migraines. Took me years to actually make the connection. 72 now take my D3 regularly
Hey, don't be scared to go to a doctor, if you don't you might have a lot of trouble growing up, also if you go to a doctor, you might be able to go to a therapist / psychologist to 'control' them better or you could have medication to 'control' it a bit better.
idk if anyone is gonna see this but i have tics and i’m scared to tell my mom because i suppress my tics around my family, so i think she’ll think i’m lying since she’s never seen them
Thank you so much, really thank you. My daughter (12yrs) is going through something right now and quite frankly it's terrifying as a parent to watch her go through and have no idea what is going on. Thank you for being brave and sharing it is extremely helpful.
I absolutely adore your videos!! Even though I do not have tourettes or know anyone who has it, I’m loving to get to know a little bit more of it, so thank you for sharing this with us
Hi Zara! I love your video! I had a question. I have had tics for 7 months and I fall into the Tourette's Syndrome categorizes. I might self diagnose myself with Tourette's this year or the beginning of next year. I was wondering if it's okay to do that because they don't really hurt me unless I hit or bang things, and they don't cause a lot of problems with school work, but sometimes socializing with strangers is difficult. (Sorry this is really long) Another thing is that my mom thinks I am faking my tics for attention because I always suppress around my family since they have said that and I'm not sure what to do at this point. In the US I think I'm too young to go to the doctor by myself and I don't know when I'll go again. Do you have any tips that would make it easier to tell my parents that my tics are not something I would ever want to fake?
I think I might actually have One(1) tic. I never knew what it was and always called it a hiccup when trying to explain it to people. It's just like a loud, drawn out hiccup that I might do a couple times a day or not at all. Definitely no kind of disorder but with all the sort of gasping and airway tics that some people seem to have, maybe it's some sort of diaphragm twitch. I've always wondered what it is.
Hi recently I've been having bad "hiccups" whenever I eat or drink something and it goes on for a long time and yesterday I was at a friend's house and I kept on reapeating this sound and the water didn't help me out and I kept saying I can't control it I can't sorry
I was diagnosed with Tourette’s at 23. No previous tics but now I have motor and vocal tics. I was diagnosed by a neurologist medication had now surpassed them a ton
I'm 13 now and I was diagnosed with a tic disorder when I was 8 and then a few years later when I was 10 I got diagnosed with tourettes syndrome which sucks but oh well I have lots and lots of motor tics I have coprolalia ones and yeah it's annoying but I can't help it so I'll deal with it
I have ticks but it is really mild I don’t really twitch I just say something really random but it doesn’t happen all the time i probs have a tick go off once every around 10 mins
I've got Tardive Tourettism from an antipsychotic I was on. It's often permanent and I've had it for five years. I have both motor and vocal tics. It's related to Tardive Dyskinesia
Recently (past few months) i've developed a verbal tic similar to the 1:26 one you're doing!! it will be random, once or twice then stops for a few hours. I just describe it as random hiccup even though its not. Happens every day. No other type of tics! Not been to the drs for their opinion yet but this video was very helpful :)
hi zara, i'm new here, see a video about u and tourettes, and i don't now about this... i'm loving your videos... say hi to brazil, everybody will know u now
I think I have Anxiety tics, but what makes me worry about it its that I have it since I was so little and it's getting a little bit more, agresive?, I hope I can go to the doctor soon
I have ADHD and Asperger's and I have like 3 tics lol two vocal tics such as a sqeak noise and sniffing *these started this week it used to just be the one* and I have one motor tic which is like a head twitch LOL *used to be an anxiety tic*
I have been formally diagnosed with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and I have nervous/ anxiety tics/twitches too. It's noticeable if I'm anxious out in crowded shops/ places or if I overthink lots e.c.t. (some of them are discreet but there are a few wich are noticeable). P.s/ Disclaimer: I've been formally diagnosed with GAD by my GP (general practitioner).
yes, coprolalia is a type of tic (rarer than many other types) but is not only with Tourette syndrome, other tic disorders and causes of tics can cause coprolalia
I'm confused I've always said that I have anxiety tics and I've had it for 3 years now but I have complex tics and i have tic attacks but my tics are off and on I could have tics for 1 month and then there gone with only like 5 for the next month and then they will come back again. Could that still be Tourettes or no I'm just confused.
I’m a little confused when you said “consistent tics” when tics aren’t consistent- like bad tic days and good tic days. Could you elaborate more on “consistent”
I have pretty bad conversion disorder, as well as adhd/add, anxiety and ocd. I do tic at times but not as often if I’m medicated. Right now I’m not medicated and it’s annoying. I bit husbands ear, licked my dogs forehead, flap my arms like a bird and blink a lot.
If I’m really focused I might have blinking tics but when I’m not focused I tic a lot. But I didn’t get diagnosed with Tourette’s.i did get diagnosed with anxiety tic but tic even when I don’t have anxiety.
I still don’t know what mine are I never got diagnosed I have been ticing over a year I have vocal and motor and I tic almost every day and ,there are some things that set them off ,some days I only have a little tics or I tic a lot I would like if you would help me to think what I might have for I can figure it out and probably get diagnose I just want to find a category that I fall into.and my tics sometimes hurts it depends on the tic
i developed tics a little over a year ago but the thing is, i'd suppress them a lot and then tic a bunch on my own,,,i told my mom but i still feel awkward ticcing around her and my dad doesn't know so i'm like, completely lost shbdsj-
So ive had these 2 motor tics that ive had for a few years but in the past year and a bit they have gotten so much more common and I’ve mentioned it to my therapist before and she told me it might just be related to my ocd because i tend to have the feeling of bugs on my skin and also have trichotillomania but just monitor them incase it gets worse (at the moment its just like shivering my whole body or jerking my head and neck) ik its not Tourette’s but I’ve fallen into the rabbit hole of researching now
Same but im 13 and have moter and mabye vocal idk had it since march april or may i think of 2023 and a knee bend for 4 years and to scared to tell my parents
Ngl I can't help but to twitch and shake- it just happens- and for some reason it feels satisfying..- personally I dont think I have tics but it just happens- and it happens mostly when I have anxiety- but it still happens a lot without my anxiety. And my body feels freezing all the time so I'll shake and twitch a lot which I've done since like 7 and currently I'm a preteen- lol but I don't plan on going to a doctor until I'm 15-16 (so I can drive) to see-
*I know I don’t have Tourette’s cos I only have one but it may be a anxiety tic or something I like do this thing with my nose where it twitches or you know like when a bunny scrunches it nose up and I have something with my eyes where I like squint for a moments and I do this think where I move my nose and lips to the side*
I’ve had motor and vocal tics for a month but the vocal tics are gone and I only have motor tics so far it’s been 3 months and I gotta say the diagnosis process was really long for absolutely no reason
I have a question, I have a neogical appointment at the end of may and I was wondering what tests they might do. I have verbal tics and motor. And coporlailia.
im not sure as every doctor is different but there are no direct tests for tics, if they want to rule a different condition/cause out before diagnosing tics then that might involve testing but apart from that im not sure
So, I show all symptoms of ADHD and I tic but I only tic when I get stressed so would that mean I have anxiety tics and adhd I'm confused lol (both are undiagnosed because my parents don't believe me so I can't get tested)
I have a disabled daughter who was born with cerebral palsy, autism, schezencephaley,ADHD, and speech impairment. She is 22 years old. I just recently heard about the Tourette's Syndrome from her case manager. She said that she thinks she might have it. She has been lashing out at me for years, cussing all the time repeating words and now hitting me. Do you think it could be Tourette's. I have recorded her so I can show her doctor.
Hi Zara. There was a demand on Captionfy for this content to be translated into Brazilian Portuguese. I did the voluntary translation, but it's not in this video yet. Could you include it here, please? That would help me professionally in terms of building my portfolio as a translator. You are awesome by the way! :-)
Thank you for explaing this, I *think* I have persistent/chronic tics (motor) because I flap my arms like a bird a lot when I'm daydreaming or excited, I get made fun of a lot for it :(
I also keep moving my jaw up and down in the biting motion, because it makes a weird sound. I also do it before i sleep, and if i don’t do enough, i can’t fall asleep.
For the past couple of months I've been random jerking, Usually my neck or arms. I've made random noises since I was a child and when I went to my mom about it she said its probably just in my head. I feel bad for looking into it more but I had a feeling that it's more than that. Watching this helped cause I never knew that ADHD could cause tics and I've been diagnosed with that since I was around 5. I'm going to get my mom to find a doctor to help.

I know this wasn't the intention, but the "don't say you have tourettes unless you've been clinically diagnosed" is causing my brain to tell me that I can't call myself autistic 😭. I self-diagnosed 13 months ago and was referred for an autism assessment 6 months ago (there was a delay because of certain time requirements my school had to fulfill before referring me, even though they supported the referral).
i don’t have tics but i love watching these vids to learn more about it but when i watch you or anyone else with tourettes my neck jerks and stuff which i definitely dont think is tourettes or tics. (btw i am not trying to self diagnose i would never)
I'm confused if I have any sort of tics because I jerk my neck rly bad for the past few months I'm under the age of 18 and I do have anxiety but I don't jerk my neck particularly in stressful situations another thing is that is I jerk it to the left never the right ive never looked into touretts or any kind of tic disorders but I do a few things that make it sound or look like I have tics or touretts
hi i cant get a diagnosis for 4 more months and im starting to belive my tics are anxiety related? i am diagnosed with anxiety so is that a possible reason for them? but also they're vocal but not just when im anxious and i had a CAT scan last year and nothing was wrong so im really confused?
I only have one vocal tic, it’s the word, “potion” and I do a weird move, the same one every time (idk how to explain it) this vocal tic is way less common than my others. and I have multiple motor tics , jerking my neck to the side, making my arms do weird movements (like bunch up), and scrunch my neck up. Had for just over a year. Not thinking about getting diagnosed because it is not too bothersome. If you read this, sorry if I wasted your time, and also thank you 😊
I have a tic disorder, ive had it for almost 3 years but I got diagnosed a few days ago my doctor says since it's getting worse for me to check in to see if it may be Tourette's but idk I also have adhd and ocd which I think he told me it can follow that (I don't know how to explain it sorry)
I have chronic motor tics But i have some vocal And i was told it would only it for under a year One day they got really bad that they where constant and i couldnt hide them anymore and i toke to the hospital for it i stayed over night and at 2am they gave me a diagnosis or motor tic disorder
I really shouldn’t be watching videos that set off my tics, but here we go!

I dont have tourettes or tics, but i clicked on this video because i felt like i didnt know that much about tics! this is really educational and i wasnt very educated about tics! so thank you
Great video! Thank you for making longer videos that are informative, they really help🥰
After watching this video I really do hope my tics don’t last a year lmao
They literally started all of a sudden like 3 months ago and nobody has an idea why and like I’m freaking confused lol
I have ADHD so I get tics with that along side with anxiety tics
i finally got diagnosed with tourette’s today i’m so happy i’ve finally found out what’s wrong with me lol
I do not have tourette's but I enjoy your content👍 I, myself, am a 17 year old boy who is diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. I found this out about 2 years ago.
This has helped a LOT thank you 🥰
Great Video!! I wonder how much time it took to edit this...!?
quite a lot!😂
I’ve had verbal and motor tics for two years and just haven’t done anything about it lol. Too scared to go to the doctors
Hey, don't be scared to go to a doctor, if you don't you might have a lot of trouble growing up, also if you go to a doctor, you might be able to go to a therapist / psychologist to 'control' them better or you could have medication to 'control' it a bit better.
idk if anyone is gonna see this but i have tics and i’m scared to tell my mom because i suppress my tics around my family, so i think she’ll think i’m lying since she’s never seen them
omg same
Me too bestie🙏🏻
I've had tourettes for 2yrs and imposter issues and I've had family laugh at me because of that
Thank you so much, really thank you. My daughter (12yrs) is going through something right now and quite frankly it's terrifying as a parent to watch her go through and have no idea what is going on. Thank you for being brave and sharing it is extremely helpful.
i hope my tics are just cause of my autism and anxiety but they're very "violent" for lack of better word and idk if I have vocal tics or not
I also thought my tics could be caused by autism but my doctor said that can’t but they can be co occurring.
I don’t normally watch stuff that set off my tics but Zara’s content is so worth it love your channel
Zara I love you smile!!
Search Electronic Assault, learn symptoms, and how microwave frequencies can cause many symptoms that you won't learn in class, or hospital.
Omg I canttt your so pretty!!!!
Do you have any tips that would make it easier to tell my parents that my tics are not something I would ever want to fake?
omg same
Great video!!
I have Anxiety, ADHD, and OCD. but no tics at all, or I could just not be noticing them.
Love you vids Zara!!💯💙
I'm 13 now and I was diagnosed with a tic disorder when I was 8 and then a few years later when I was 10 I got diagnosed with tourettes syndrome which sucks but oh well I have lots and lots of motor tics I have coprolalia ones and yeah it's annoying but I can't help it so I'll deal with it
This was an amazing video
Great video.
I FINALLY TOLD MY MOM ABOUT MY TICS AND SHES GONNA HELP ME GET DIAGNOSED
Really great video Zara ty 4 educating ppl on Tourettees
I have ticks but it is really mild I don’t really twitch I just say something really random but it doesn’t happen all the time i probs have a tick go off once every around 10 mins
Loved the video and when are you next going live on twitch
in about half an hour!
@@Zara_Beth yay
I've got Tardive Tourettism from an antipsychotic I was on. It's often permanent and I've had it for five years. I have both motor and vocal tics. It's related to Tardive Dyskinesia
Recently (past few months) i've developed a verbal tic similar to the 1:26 one you're doing!! it will be random, once or twice then stops for a few hours. I just describe it as random hiccup even though its not. Happens every day. No other type of tics! Not been to the drs for their opinion yet but this video was very helpful :)
Sameeee that was one of my first tics
hi zara, i'm new here, see a video about u and tourettes, and i don't now about this... i'm loving your videos... say hi to brazil, everybody will know u now
Ive been experiencing shoulder-shrugging tics for a couple months now especially when I get cold it gets pretty outrageous.
I think I have Anxiety tics, but what makes me worry about it its that I have it since I was so little and it's getting a little bit more, agresive?, I hope I can go to the doctor soon
I have ADHD and Asperger's and I have like 3 tics lol
two vocal tics such as a sqeak noise and sniffing *these started this week it used to just be the one*
and I have one motor tic which is like a head twitch LOL *used to be an anxiety tic*
My therapist says I have Tourette’s comorbid with my autism, hopefully I can get an official diagnosis soon :)
People with headphones at the start: GFYUGFOUHD xD
I have swearing tics, but I don’t have touretts yet. Would it still be considered coporlailia
yes, coprolalia is a type of tic (rarer than many other types) but is not only with Tourette syndrome, other tic disorders and causes of tics can cause coprolalia
Before you got diagnosed, were your tics as obvious as now? How old you were when the tics started? I hope you well ❤️
i developed tics a little over a year ago but the thing is, i'd suppress them a lot and then tic a bunch on my own,,,i told my mom but i still feel awkward ticcing around her and my dad doesn't know so i'm like, completely lost shbdsj-
So ive had these 2 motor tics that ive had for a few years but in the past year and a bit they have gotten so much more common and I’ve mentioned it to my therapist before and she told me it might just be related to my ocd because i tend to have the feeling of bugs on my skin and also have trichotillomania but just monitor them incase it gets worse (at the moment its just like shivering my whole body or jerking my head and neck) ik its not Tourette’s but I’ve fallen into the rabbit hole of researching now
Same but im 13 and have moter and mabye vocal idk had it since march april or may i think of 2023 and a knee bend for 4 years and to scared to tell my parents
Great Video Zara you are an amazing girl!
I have little twitches in my leg, head and arms sometimes but I don’t thrill k they’re tics.
@@Zara_Beth thank you!
what if you are diagnose with chronic motor tics but then about a year ago i started to vocal tics and also continue to have motor tics
So, I show all symptoms of ADHD and I tic but I only tic when I get stressed so would that mean I have anxiety tics and adhd I'm confused lol (both are undiagnosed because my parents don't believe me so I can't get tested)
My friend has tics and this helped me understand. Thanks.
A beautiful smile Zara.💙❤️
I have this blink tic and a eyebrow tic where I move my eyebrows up and down and it annoys me but it’s not bad
Ty so much I have OCD and I have bad anxiety, sometime I do word Jerks tysm
I have a disabled daughter who was born with cerebral palsy, autism, schezencephaley,ADHD, and speech impairment. She is 22 years old. I just recently heard about the Tourette's Syndrome from her case manager. She said that she thinks she might have it. She has been lashing out at me for years, cussing all the time repeating words and now hitting me. Do you think it could be Tourette's. I have recorded her so I can show her doctor.
Can anxiety tics be really bad constantly?
Hi Zara x
hello

Hi Zara. There was a demand on Captionfy for this content to be translated into Brazilian Portuguese. I did the voluntary translation, but it's not in this video yet. Could you include it here, please? That would help me professionally in terms of building my portfolio as a translator. You are awesome by the way! :-)
Thank you for explaing this, I *think* I have persistent/chronic tics (motor) because I flap my arms like a bird a lot when I'm daydreaming or excited, I get made fun of a lot for it :(
She's so beautiful
Shut up
I also keep moving my jaw up and down in the biting motion, because it makes a weird sound.
Oi Zara, tudo bem?

@@zayyyyy__y dude this was literally 2 years ago but yea lmao
I have had tics for almost three years but have been way too scared to get help, finally going to the doctors in a few days i'm so nervous
hi i cant get a diagnosis for 4 more months and im starting to belive my tics are anxiety related? i am diagnosed with anxiety so is that a possible reason for them? but also they're vocal but not just when im anxious and i had a CAT scan last year and nothing was wrong so im really confused?
I've had motor and vocal tics for a year and a half but I felt like they diagnosed me so quickly it feels unreal- like I still haven't processed it.
If you read this, sorry if I wasted your time, and also thank you 😊
I don’t have tics or think I have tics but these videos just entertain me lol
I have a tic disorder, ive had it for almost 3 years but I got diagnosed a few days ago my doctor says since it's getting worse for me to check in to see if it may be Tourette's but idk I also have adhd and ocd which I think he told me it can follow that (I don't know how to explain it sorry)
I have chronic motor tics
But i have some vocal
And i was told it would only it for under a year
One day they got really bad that they where constant and i couldnt hide them anymore and i toke to the hospital for it i stayed over night and at 2am they gave me a diagnosis or motor tic disorder
