  • The historical drama Vikings may have taken liberties with historical facts, but there is no doubt that it provided six seasons of riveting television for its fans. The popular series began in a small Viking settlement in Kattegat and followed the ambitious journey of Norse legend Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons across the rest of Europe.
The series displayed some memorable scenes of medieval battles, torture, and rituals, and it also created some iconic and compelling characters throughout its six-season run.
Its final season didn’t hold back one bit, and now that the dust has settled, here is a breakdown of the end of Vikings.

Also Othere and Hvitserk had gotten burns from the stomach, from when Bjorn tried to kill him after the Lagertha incident. Also Othere fought very similar and very good, comparing to Hvitserk when Ubbe asked him where he learned to fight like so. Maybe Othere was like a part of Hvitserk's soul in a way.
Because Hvitserk always wanted to be with Ubbe, but also wanted to be with Ivar, He was kind of with both of them by the end. Kind of like if Othere was Hvitserk's ideal self, the way he would be if he stayed with Ubbe. He helped him find the new, great land the way their father wanted to find new land.
Maybe Hvitserk after he gets baptised prays to the God for Ubbe and for his success, and the God sends Othere as a watcher/protector for Ubbe?
I like to think that way.

Ultimately the moment Ragnar and ecbert left the show it got gradually worse. The ending was underwhelming. I mean just look at the way ragnars blood eagle was shot, the atmosphere, art direction and style was so good in those first few seasons. The acting, character development and overall plot lines are so much weaker post season 4. The sons are interesting but the plot isn’t. Gunhillde, Alfred, elsweth, Ingrid etc just arnt a compelling supporting cast. And to finish Kattegat in that weird way...not great.

They do despicable things that make them unlikable, but their charisma pulls you in & somehow you find yourself rooting for them & saddened by the thought of their demise even though you know you shouldn’t. That’s how you know Ivar’s character was brilliantly written & acted. Especially when you can compare it to a character like Tony Soprano one of the greatest of all time.
