Charles: Sets up hoods inward for aero gains.
Also Charles: Puts on a handlebar bag.
Ahahahahh I knew this one was comingđ I was heading to my GF house after the my workout and needed to bring extra stuff that didn't fit in the back pocket
And a gopro
@CharlesOuimet
Use a damn frame bag or saddle bag. They don't murder your aero and will instead increase your gains. And will have more storage than a stupid burrito bag.
lmao
Your video's are super professional and lovely content as well ! How do you only have 1,6k subs? You deserve atleaaaast 30k right! Going to show your stuff to my cycling mates đ
Thank you so much Job. Comments like those make me do more and more!! đŻ
Yep, been doing this type of hood setup way before i knew who remco was. But before that, I thought it was way more aero and way more comfortable even on long rides. No shoulder pains, etc. Now seeing your video, validates all this! thanks man!
hell yes man! Happy to hear this
Its awesome. Have been riding like that for almost a year and its really nice to your hands and my aero position is improved and less tensioned đ
Hell yes! glad to hear it man
Nice content! Just watched this and it's interesting! Keep it up!
Thank you so much man!!
Great video! Thank you! Very useful... Please share with how did it feel on the Power sprint and how you will contribute your power, as well as the brakes position efficiencyđ thank you and keep up the good work!
Thank! I've tuned down the angle over time. For sprinting, I use the drops so no change, but brakes can be more difficult to reach in the drops
Thatâs how I angle my push up bars and flared bars are like that too so I think it makes sense. Going to the drops might help with the stability issue when climbing and they advice to get on them when in a bunch sprint so this may be the solution when inside the peloton too
yes absolutely!
Good video, interesting idea, well presented. Thumbs up
thank you man
Especially liked the outro where you listed the big weakness of this, stability. I tried it on my bike for a while, but since my road bike is also my gravel bike I found out first hand that although it's great for comfort and aero on roads, it's absolutely scary to try this position on gravel or off-road. It gets really, really twitchy and your front wheel just starts doing whatever it wants over bumps and rocks. Sadly I had to go back to the traditional riding position.
thanks for confirming man!! yeah it's more scary!
Why sadly? The ânormalâ position has been refined for 100+ years. Nothing new under the sun as they say...
I did this and love it for rides less than 4 hours. Found it made my shoulders ache on longer rides so went back to straight hoods.
good to know! At least you tried it man
The hoods idea is great!!!
You should try it!
You did a corner cut in the wall of champions chicane, thatâs a 5 second penalty :p
Ahahahah yeah that's the way we ride at the circuit, the regular lane is for cars :p
HE CUT THE CHICKEN!
I installed mine that way, and have been like that for a long time. It worked for me for theee decades now! Love it! I hope it works for you! đ€đŸđŽđŒ
Yes !!! Thx
Hi Charles, Iâve started to follow your channel, great content đđœ what about the breaks reaching, is it affected, is it easier or more difficult to brake?
Thank you man!! It's definitely more awkward when in the drops, the levers are further away to reach, but other than that, same breaking efficiency
loving your videos
thank you sooooo much!!!
Hi! Brian from Long Island New York here. Excellent video, you've got a new subscriber. Listening to you speak, I thought "wow here's a Frenchman with the least trace of accent in his English I've ever heard." Then I realized as the video went on that you're hailing from Montréal in Canada. I noticed you often used the unaspirated silent H sound when you said the word "hoods" but at the end you said "hoods" with an aspirated H sound. I'm fascinated by languages and linguistics. You speak in a wonderful way and I'm sure that you must be a fluent bilingual, speaking French at a native speaker level as well. Please pardon my comment if it is annoying to have a stranger bring up this topic. I was immediately intrigued by your gorgeous Winspace T1500. Do you watch Joe and his China Cycling CZcams Channel? I'm guessing you probably know the channel but if not, check him out, he's great. I was about to ask you about your Winspace but the good old algorithm is showing me that you just made a video about it last month. Going to watch it now!
Thanks man! Happy to hear my accent was entertaining and interesting Hehe. Yes I know Joe he's such a cool dude!
been riding for 2 years with inward angled hoods, I too found it better as it's in a way more comfy for me and for some reasons it makes my bike easier to navigate through a peloton
agreed!!
Great video. I'm going to give it a shot as well. I'm not fast, but I love climbing and this might help with numbness that I get in my hands when climbing. We'll see. Also... what type of camera and extender arm is that you use off the front of the bike? Thanks!
It's a bit weird when you are standing up when climbing, but it great when going fast on flats! It's a Insta360 GO with a regular camera friction arm + clamp on the handlebar
yes.i do the same .feel more comfortable and fast
Absolutely!!
I had one of my hoods pushed i like that after a fall. I had no tools to 'fix' it so I rode home with it like that. It immediately felt more comfortable so I adjusted the other one to match and they have both been like that for over a year. I'm not going back to the traditional position
Hell yess! What a great story ahah
Same here just happened last night after a head on collision and now im keeping it like that
Same here I had two little falls on either side that evened out my hoods facing inwards haha never switched back, its great!
Iâm literally here bc I fell and this happened to one of my shifters yesterday and it was so comfortable but idk how to purposely adjust the other side đ
I like how it feels having done it on all my bikes
Hell yes!!
Great video. Enjoy watching it. Question, what bike mount are you using for your 360 cam? Tx.
Hey, I'm using a friction arm + clamp on the bar! Does the job well. Got it from amazon
@@CharlesOuimet thanks, would u still have the link? I can't seem to find it. If you can share that would be great. Thanks
I already ride like that for more than 4 years just for comfort. In the beginning everyone thought it was weird, now more and more people do it. And it is no problem in the peloton, you just have to adapt a bit and learn how to handle it.
absolutely agree with you!

Hell yes, welcome abord the rad train!!
nice one, very good video
thank you man!!
I do the same, have done for over a year and have slowly gotten more aggressive with the inwards position.
nice!!
Hi Charles. I'm very keen on your camera setup. Would you mind do a video on how you do your video production?
Thanks! I'm using a Sony A7RIII with 24-70 2.8 and rode mic
After watching this. I tried putting inward. It's surprisingly comfortable and more aero. Handling wise is still the same as the normal position and yes it look very weird but i get used to it. I should have done this in the first place coz everytime i ride on the normal position my hands gets numb and wrist pain around 20-30km distance but now it's better and i am keeping it inward position. Wanted to go more aggressive inward but it's too much. LOL!
Nice man!!! Thanks for sharing
This shit was hilarious, and I learned a bit too!!!
Thanks man!!
Thanks I enjoyed the video đ.Does breaking in the hoods feel different since the brake calipers arenât aligned with the drops anymore?
awesome!! not affecting my hydro brakes
Nice video, I enjoy riding on the tack, it is the only piece of asphalt in Quebec without a pot hole. What clamp did you use for the camera? How far out front was the camera?
Ahaha yes!! I use a camera friction arm from Amazon. Camera insta360 go so it's super wide. Maybe 1 foot out front
The hood idea is interesting but although you mention the aero and comfort aspects I am curious about shifting and braking with the levers at an angle. I am using mechanical shifters so a bit of effort is normally required when they are straight.
It's definitely more awkward to shift and brake, over the time after this video, I've brough back my hoods a little(still inwards) but not as much as in this video
Makes a lot of sense - look at downhill ski racers in an aero tuck (hands and arms are rotated inward). Also, check out a lot of the aero setups in Ironman (armrest offset and inward rotation of the bars). So about how much do you rotate them inward? 5 degrees? 10 degrees? I've noticed a bit of wrist fatigue and pain in a straight, aligned, traditional position that doesn't exist on my triathlon setup (and I'm in that position a long time). Also, FSA makes a set of bar drops on their "K-Wing AGX Handlebar" with a 10 degree drop spread shop.fullspeedahead.com/en/handlebars/gravel/k-wing-agx-carbon-handlebar - interesting but I would assume that your break levers would then follow the drop angle (mimicking your turn-in) and that the top width would be a bit more narrow to compensate for your wider hand spread.
Hey man, thank you so much for sharing all those details!
Key is bikefit, if your position puts pressure on your hands then the force may potentially make the shifters move more easily if you hit a bump. And since it is also your brakes, be careful to check bikefit and torque.
Worked with me so far! But I did dialed down the position
Hi Charles, thanks for sharing your experience. I will be getting my Winspace T1500 (Disc) in about a few weeks time and I can't wait to set it up...any advice to help me set up the bike? I am using Winspace Hyper wheelset and Ultegra Di2 too. Thanks in advance.
Hey Allen, that's amazing, tbh you won't regret it, it's an amazing bike and wheels. I went to my local bike shop with all my parts for them to build it as it was my first custom made bike. But for my Girlfriend's mechanical winspace, I build everything myself (I did a video on that), but that's easier than disk and electronics
Hopefully you'll use my code "charlesouimet10" for a 10% discount đđ»

What selfie stick and bike mount do you use for your camera? Thanks!
Used a camera friction arm and clamped it to my bar!
is that the F1 track, canada Circuit de Gilles-Villeneuve? I recognise the corners but it looks weird without the normal barriers. It's amazing you can cycle there.
Yes it is! It's the best road to train with fast trains, always lots of people there on weeknights
Favorite training ground for Montrealers ;)
Basically crit practice every night
@Alan Braaa I live about 500m from the Albert Park GP circuit here in Melbourne. It's great for cycling because there's no traffic (virtually no cars) so you can just do uninterrupted training as if you were on the trainer.
super interesting. i am going to try it. how the heck do you workout without breaking a sweat.. not a hope in hell i would go into a store before showering after a ride lol
ahah nice!! Well the faster you go, the quicker you dry from sweat hehe

ahahahahahahah
I inward them 2 cm each side. handlebars original diameter is 42 and top on hood is 38 cm now. I think it is good setup

try to use more narrow hadlebar and u'll be surprise how it's more comfy and aero!!!

Yeah I used to do it with my Garneau setup on mecanical ultregra, it worked just fine!
Man tâa trouvĂ© le secret. đ
Ahahahaha yessirđŻđŻđ
Hey can you please share your bike cam setup? thanks man
Using a camera friction arm + clamp, I posted a photo on my community tab, go check it out!
do it before removing the bar tape and check the brake hose will hitting the bar or not
True that would have been better!
How do they feel for climbing out of the saddle on the hoods?
It's definitely weird at first, but you get use to it. you have less leverage, it's less stable too since you are narrower
I've been got into a hit and run, and only notice my tilted hoods on my next ride, they are clearly more comfortable
wow!
This guy has more power than my Ebike motor. Impressive..
Ahahah yessss
Yes but what you like at navigating bridges?
I dont understand your question?
When I set up my hoods like that, my breaks stick out to the sides. What can I do to fix it?
Not mich you can do, that's one drawback đ
What I like the most is that you're fit enough that such an aero advantage makes a difference. The only thing that would make me noticably faster is to lose about 10 pounds of fat!!! :-)
Did it from spring of last year. It is not for aero. It feels more natural for long ride and it is easier for riding on hoods with parallel elbow. Also, shifting and braking are better. I have better touch on lever.
Several people ask me for that. I don't know what to say. Just, is is better for me. Give me alone.
Now, Roman Bardet and Remco did same. Interesting. I didn't copy them and they didn't copy me. Simply, we come to same conclusion in same time. Must be good.
Only problem with that is that I have injury that prevent me to ride with parallel elbow. I have crash on MTB.
If you flexible you can try to drop it little bit. Fingers will just touch top of hood. You can ride many hours on that position. And put saddle bit front. You don't want ride on tip of saddle for long time. Now you ready for all day aero riding.
Hell yes! Thanks for sharing đŻ
hi .. can you share your video set up with the setup up you use?
Hey! I have a sony a7r iii with 24-70 2.8, action shot on the insta 360GO and my phone the LG VELVET5G
Wow we used to have shops that opened for us.
ahhah yes!
Iâve always turned my hoods in. The levers work better too.
absolutely!!!
About the downsides, you could use the handlebars to sprint on the peloton.
yeah exactly! but it's a bit less stable when on top of it
what camera setup are you using on the bike?
insta360 GO with a camera friction arm + calmp on the bar
What about braking when you are in the drops? Arenât the levers more difficult to reach with your fingers?
Definitely a little bit more of a longer reach since they are flaring out to the side. But definitely still allright to reach!
You can adjust reach for lever. There are the screw for that. Try to find on manufacturer site how to do it. Mine is below hood cover in the front. Mechanical Ultegra.
What is the final on the new hood setup ?
After a month, I've finally brought them maybe halfway inward than in the video. There was a few crits in september, and when in the drops, it was too annoying to reached the levers
I would only try this if my drop bars are much narrower than my shoulders, which they are on my road bike. Not so much on the gravel bike.
Good point!
Maybe get a 38cm bar instead of a 40? That's what I'm running on my SLC2.0 and it's perfect
38 too narrow to sprint in the drops for me!
A lot of cyclists here in the Philippines does that for comfort, including me.
Nice!! I've heard the trend is a lot more present in philippines, glad to hear this man!
Everytime I see a french guy on youtube I assume he's from France bahhahaha.
Love from Ontario :)
ahahahah nope! Quebec :p
How is it more aero if you're creating more frontal surface area? You might like how it feels, but I just can't agree with this claim. Maybe the 40W is from your intense training: 45 sprints? Keep it up thođ
I invite you to go at 40km/h in the wheel of someone who keeps a steady pace. And go back in forth between regular top of the hoods position and this aero top of the hoods position, you'll see it right away that you are keeping the same speed for 40watts less on your powermeter
@@CharlesOuimet you have to be joking .... maybe your overall position gets better with this hood position since you feel more comfortable and go deeper upper body... but if you did keep the same upper body and low ellbow position the hand position could not make 40watts difference lol..... regular top of the hood position is ~ 30-40 watts more than tucked in on the hoods. Yes.... but tucked in on the hoods traditional vs tucked in on the hoods remco handlebar position cant be a big difference.... you cant trick physics... lol if everything stays the same and the only difference is your hand bieng rotated ... then there cant be more than 1-3 watts difference. Nowadays when going fast on the flats everybody goes TT position holding on to their bolt/garmin anways... cause that really makes a hughe difference and saves ~ 15-20w.
Love Lululemon gear. They make our boutique gym work uniform. Itâs the best. My good friend is also an Ambassador! Are you one too?
Yes they have the best gear!!! I am too :)
Charles, which handlebar bag is that?
Hey man, this is a Road runner bag, I have a video about it on my channel, once of my first video on the channel!
How do you do it though?
my question is how would climbing on this feel
Weird af. I reduce the angle a bit
another inspiring rider turning the hoods in is Marc Hirschi.
absolutely!! we all wintness this at TDF in his big win
@@CharlesOuimet And thanks for your movie, I'll try it as well. Currently I'm on 38cm bars, but with the hoods straight. I feel this could improve my tucked aero position adding comfort.
Maybe you should buy fitting jersey so you're more aero. You know, no hate, if you're poor Chinese lycra jerseys only costs like $40 or something. Also get that bartape from those bar wings out. It adds drag. P.s. what is amazing in terms of seconds of 40km TT doing 200w in same position? Oh forgot, it's pseudosciece with pseudoresults
Man, it's a trainning, why go into a speedsuit ahah! I have a few, but they don't have pockets. Racing only!
No need of deep scientific science to prove it's more aero. Go ahead and ride at 40km/h pace and alternate between top of the hoods straight arms and aero top of the hoods. You'll see clearly the 20-40 watts difference right away.
But hey, maybe I can do a new video with the result in a TT
Yes some pro do it .
I like it!
BTW, How long is your stem?
Sir why does my tricep burn on that position at 06:45 .
Basically you are making your bars narrower. But going for narrow bars you could keep hoods in standard position.
Not quite the same, with the hoods inwards, the wrist is sitting flat on the bar, palm of the hands into the hole. Which is lot more comfortable for holding the top of the hoods aero position
@@CharlesOuimet just look for bars with shorter reach and your palm would be able to sit closer. On video it seem like your elbows are getting out, this makes your frontal area bigger. I recently swapped from supershort flared bars back to my road bars and when shortened stem to keep the reach, I am able to hold same position well. Bar reach difference was 15mm. Integrated cockpits look nice, but from adjustment perspective, you're stuck with manufacturer offerings.
Not using a torque wrench, you are far more likely to under tighten something than over tighten it. Saying that knowing that you're very careful and don't have a history with metal bikes. So if or when you get a torque wrench you will find you can tighten things a bit past what you thought and it's still safe.
So if you get one it will give you double peace of mind. Probably worth it just for that.
Thank you so much for sharing, that never came to my mind. I'll check it out for sure!!
Never seen Jan-Willem van Tâ Schip?
yes his position is crazy!!!
Might be 5 seconds faster at 45kmph, but wonky hoods definitely are an acquired taste atleast visually
Man races a won by 0.0001 secondes appart, any gain is a gain
you could save 40 watts with that a jersey that's skin tight...
Man, it's a trainning, why go into a speedsuit ahah! I have a few, but they don't have pockets. Racing only!
Was thinking the same. Looks like you could wear a size or two smaller. You can see how it bunches up on front, it's not as smooth as could be ideally. I fold up the bottom of the zip to get the front straighter.
@@davomccranko It's the biemme Jersey that has a weird cut, i'm small in all other brands and it doesn't ripple like that. Also, it's a training, why wear a speedsuit?
Does this really make 40 watts saving ?
From a high, top of the hoods position with fully extended arm to an aero, flat arms (parrallel to the ground) and head down position, yes!
I had that setup months ago, and for me, my shoulders and muscles beside my neck hurt after my rides so I put it back on my normal setup and the pains are gone.
Thanks for sharing! Everyone is different!
@@CharlesOuimet actually that kind of hood setup are aero however i dont wanna compromise my comfort for aero gains since Im not a competitive cyclist at all

how about braking?
feels the same then regular hoods, maybe a bit harder to reach when in the drops!
