This song, "Crooked Man" was written by Pamela Polland. This video is an excerpt from a WNET series Tracy Newman at Brooklyn College in 1965. It aired on a show called "What's New. "
I was '77, and I'm now in the boat with you, (I brought beer😂) Beautiful voice, tomboy pixie pertness , and apparently a catalog of songs I already grew up loving.
I've been looking for this version for YEARS! I thought it was Peter Paul & Mary, but my mother had it on open-reel tape she recorded from television shows in the '60's, and I only half remembered it from some of the lyrics. I wonder if it might have been performed on Smothers Brothers or Dick Cavett, because that's where she would have been most likely to record it.
He took me in the green grass and the blue slies up above,The memory I treasure most is he taught me how to love Goes into the woods with a crooked homeless man with one pair of pants, two shirts and no shoes -- how did I ever miss this gem..
I met a Crooked Man, Who walked a crooked mile, Found a crooked six pence, Against a crooked stile, Bought a crooked kitten, That caught a crooked mouse, And together they lived happily in a little, crooked house. I met a Crooked Man, Crooked for he could not see, And yet he opened up a whole new world to me, Taught me how to build a castle with a grain of sand, And how to catch a rainbow in the palm of my hand. I met a Crooked Man, Crooked for he could not hear, Yet he could make me laugh if ever came a tear. He taught me how to sing and dance and whistle down the hall, And through these things I learned he wasn't so crooked after all. I met a Crooked Man, Crooked for he had no shoes, Only had one pair of pants, two shirts from which to choose, Yet he took me through the green grass fields with the blue skies up above, And the memory I treasure most, he taught me how to love. Crooked Man, crooked mile, A crooked six pence, crooked stile, A crooked kitten, crooked mouse, Together they lived happily in a little, crooked house. Together they lived happily in a little, crooked house.
I saw the first few lines of this as a poem many years ago but I never knew until right now that it was a full-length song also. It's a really pretty song, I love Tracy's singing.
@@tracynewman3256 thank you for sharing that! I love these old videos of yours as well as some of the newer songs. Imdb.com however they do not mention you on this television show. Perhaps you could inform them of that so they can put a category for the TV show as well as for your appearance on it. Do they have an entire show on CZcams Somewhere? I'd like to see one with the opening credits and you're opening song or however you started the show as well as the end.
@@tedmccarron We just updated my IMDB and didn't include the PBS shows. Sorry. I do have the opening credits, but would have to figure out how to edit them out. I only did 6 half hour shows within the series "What's New" hosted by Al Binford, which ran from 1962-1973. I was a small part of the overall series.
@@tedmccarron Hi Ted! I don't think I need permission. I just need the know-how to deal with it. I had a young editor helping me with these when I first got them, and he has since moved to England.
You're correct in needing to look for the good qualities in people, not the bad. The Lord said to love your neighbour as yourself. We need more of this.
I hope they play this in the end credits whenever they eventually make “The Crooked Man” movie they shelved. Shame it’s the only Conjuring spin-off I’m interested in seeing.
Nice playing and singing. I really like your speaking voice. So calm and relaxing. Did you ever take acting or voice lessons? I think Johnny Carson was really impressed with you too!!!! :)
Then he had a crooked thought, Why's the crookedness my lot? Why must I be crooked when others they were not? And the crooked man would cry, and he couldn't fathom why, and he was sad all the time, and so he cried.
@@srichard1974 Sean - I think I'm actually playing in G, and it's only 3 chords, so minor. Sorry this took me so long. You're probably performing it by now!

The modern world is strange. It allows me to fall in love with a woman in her 20's in 1965, who is actually now 80 years old.
I was born in 1986 but I wish I was 30 years old in 1969 because I would pursue Tracey , she is my dream woman

Hi, Ted! My friend Pamela Polland took the traditional poem, added verses and put a melody to it.

What a beautiful woman
This is so beautiful. It's a shame I haven't heard this before, but I'm also so happy that I have found this now! Thank you for this amazing song!!
Tracy you’re amazing!
Thank you!
What a kind soul
We need more content like this WNET series and more people and entertainers like Tracy Newman. She has a great page on youtube.

Would consider doing tutorials on how to play these songs? I’d love to know how to play this one, and most of the others from this program.

Pretty sure I got it figured out, C-Am-F-G but capo on 2, and you're tuned down a half step so key seems to be Db
