  • Watch the last part of the video where there is a glass of water on the engine. The engine runs so smooth it does not even ripple the water. Looking at the glass on the back, you are seeing the reflection of the exhaust tubes bouncing on the flat surface of the water. The water actually does not even have a ripple.

    I remember watching this all those years ago and being absolutely captivated at the engineering and insanity that went into something like this. And now, many years later down the line, seeing this engine being disassembled and explained over on Rob's channel is surreal. You've said it yourself Tyson, this is an art piece. I can agree to that!

      I think you'll find that rotaries run on a 4-stroke cycle. You must mean reciprocating-piston engines. Even then, it's pretty hotly contested how a rotary engine's displacement should be measured.

    What's truly surprising is that for the first 1:09 when they were trying to get it running that no one die of CO poisoning. Because an engine puts out a lot of CO and in a confined space it really does not take long for the CO emissions to build up. That is why a "Garage Under house is dangerous. Because if you go out on a cold morning and don't open the garage door, that room will fill with enough CO to set a sensor of in only a few seconds to maybe a minuet depending upon leaks from bad seals around the garage door and so on. it is also advised that if you have one of those types of houses to shut the engine off and leave the garage door open for a few seconds before closing it. It is truly amazing how fast CO emissions build up in confined spaces! Be careful.

      there are 12 rotors, the center intake pipes are split to the rotor on each side. If you look close you will see the exhaust from the center rotors coming up to each side so there are six exhaust pipes on each side.

    • @AUS_MODS
      @AUS_MODS Před 10 lety

      well the left bank and the middle bank rotate clock wise as the right bank rotates anit clock-wise and probably use timing gears to keep it that balanced and timing belts and chains have a lil back lash that will mak it run no so well balanced. i could be completely wrong about this but i am just using my knowledge of rotary engines and looking at the ports on this thing.

    • @Sheehy223
      @Sheehy223 Před 8 lety +7

      First off, it doesn't have cylinders, it has rotor housings. The way this is set up is 4 rotors in the middle, and another 4 on either side. The port closest to the front of the engine is actually an exhaust port shared by each rotor in that section, on the right and left side, I'm pretty sure the two median rotors share the same intake port. That explain everything for you?

    • @Sheehy223
      @Sheehy223 Před 8 lety +3

      Okay, right, scrap that, I figured it out. The intake manifold is the massive cylinder we see in the middle, it feeds to each and every Rotor, the manifolds on the right and left sides that I thought were for intake are actually exhaust manifolds. Didn't get a good enough look to know for sure, but I think they feed into the rear section of the intake which I'm assuming is sealed off, and that's where the exhaust leaves, that's what the two ports at the back are for. I didn't design or build it, this is just an estimation.

    • @Sheehy223
      @Sheehy223 Před 8 lety +3

      Wait, no, last one I swear, somehow it seems all the exhaust is sent to that manifold on the right, it might also exit from the left, I can't really see.

    • @Sheehy223
      @Sheehy223 Před 8 lety +4

    • @TysonGarvin
      @TysonGarvin  Před 8 lety +8

      +MaxTheKanuck #JoinTheMasterRace on our boats we usually have two exhaust openings in the back so I made the center rotors exhaust to the left and right sides. If you did not know what I was doing the intake and exhaust piping would be hard to follow.

    Can it run on unleaded gas RON92 or RON97? If yes, how man hours before the next service? Or do you have a street legal version that can produce any where between 500hp - 800hp that can last more than 5 years or more?

    Put that in a dune buggy or in a drag car with like a 100 mm turbo

    HOW MUCH POWER? O_O A 4 rotor makes like 400-500 easy. What does this do?!

      2400-5400 hp (5k is for one-race motor though). Tested at 3200 rpm - 1105 N·m torque

      1,400hp. Well over 2,000hp on race gas and after tuning. That's what Road and Track said. It's for a racing boat.

    Defiantly an "A++" for creativity and ingenuity, but, seams that he is having a hard time getting the thing to stay running. I am by no means an educated person when it comes to Rotary engines, but, I have to say that from what I have come to understand of the Rotary engine is...it's kind of like an inline engine. so to make one into what looks like a " V " configuration, what kind of engineering goes into taking an inline engine and making a mirror image or it on the other side then getting some sort of gear box that would take the two in line's and make them "come together" to work a " V " configuration and have it spin at the same rate as the Rotary's are? I know that there are 2 types of superchargers, a "Root style" that sits directly upon the engine intake manifold, like In Top Fuel. Or a Centrifugal device that uses gearing ratios to make it spin faster than the engine speed in order to build up pressure and those are mounted to either an existing bracket on the front of the engine and perhaps making you swap out your lower Crank pulley to accommodate the new item or some that say just get a bigger "serpentine belt" in order to make it work. Either way there is a set of gearing that is involved inside the S.C. that makes it work. So that is what intrigues me the most about this particular set up? How do you get those two to work together, and maybe that is the crux of the matter, that issue is what is holding this BEAST OF A ROTARY ENGINE FROM WANTING TO WORK PROPERLY? I would love to know how you did this Mr. Garvin, please tell me, unless you are under the "paten pending" process and that would prohibit you from "spilling the Proverbial Beans". LOL. Anyway, cool build man really cool, as I said I would love to know how you got those two to work "together" perhaps you could do some of that magic on Capital Hill! Lord know they NEED IT!!!!!!

      I have a gear box in the back of the engine that ties the three cranks together. The center crank is the output. We made the bank on the right spin the opposite direction so the engine would look symmetrical by having the exhaust ports toward the outside on each side. On having trouble getting it to stay running? That was the first night we actually tried to start the engine, I wonder how long it takes gm to get the first engine they ever designed from scratch to start? Probably more then a few minutes.
