Brah been flying dji for like 2 years. Walksnail is good. Wish them the best. Keep in mind its only been a few months. They already have 2 vtxs. One 1s with 1080p onboard dvr, goggles and a module
I really don't think it's good in comparison to DJI. It looks worse in every scenario except long ranger beyond 13km. Also I'm not going to cheer for another closed source, proprietary walled garden system that's going to be dead as soon as the company behind it defaults or doesn't care anymore.
@@ichi1082 im not comparing it to DJI im saying its a good and cheaper system. I fly dji exclusively but tested this and its pretty damn good. Better than hdzero and its only been out for a little while. They sold over 1500 modules I doubt they are close to closing at this point. Do you use HDzero out of curiosity

To answer your question, I use analog and OpenHD because I want a free (as in freedom) system.

I'm not a huge fan of DJI as a company, so I was intently watching walksnails progress. When they launched the 1s vtx I bought the system and immediately sold all my DJI gear, only thing I miss is the 4:3 aspect ratio with larger vertical FOV.

This is what I need right now. I would like to do an upgrade to one of these systems!
I don't like DJIs Corporate behavior. They might always deliver the better quality and performance, but I'd rather rely on someone who's closer to the community. So I'm going to buy walksnail in Jan or Feb.
Super useful if you're in the market for a new system. Me, I'll stay with my dji V1 goggle and Vista as it's plenty good enough already.

just want to point at the fact that the TX antenna is on the top of the walksnail goggles. so we could expect better results by putting a patch on this sea connector instead of the two bottom ones... still, the quality of the o3 is great while always being too dark or too bright. I believe run cam split cameras didn't work because of the fact that you can't really film and have a good quality reception at the same time. I've ordered my walksnail goggles during the November sales and really not disappointed with them. I tried putting the patch antenna on the tx connector and it had better penetration... THANKS Joshua for those awesome tests because they can really show us what to expect from each system ! keep it up
I just want to point at the fact that I swapped my UFL connectors internally so my TX connector is on the front. :-) But I didn't think to mention this in the video, so you can be forgiven for not knowing.

I always fly in 25mbps 700mw on both dji and walksnail, because I typically fly with others. Maybe this is why I always brag about WalkSnail - because I never fly dji in 50mbps. :)

Wow, nice work! In case of the O3 Air Unit the image with the Goggles V2 look stuttering and washed out. The Goggles 2 are looking absolutely beautiful. I am impressed by the Walksnail system too. Looks like you can totaly use it now compared to DJI V1. But O3 is from another world.
I really struggle with the breakup behaviour of the caddx vista... the stuttering, randomly blurring parts of the pic out (especially my dark shadowy woodway I need to see) and the really slow recovery... In comparison the breakup behaviour of the O3 is amazing. Very quick recovery, evenly blurrying out screen, it appears to also not stutter or drop the latancy significantly. This is a pretty interesting choice to look at...

Great Video as usual JB. My takeaway from this informative video is that if you want the best possible range and penetration O3 AU is the best. But overall I still believe the V1 Vista is winner because it has lower overall latency than both systems, maintains 50mbps bit rate, and is less likely to overheat in hot weather.
Yeah, love the vista and swapped out my original air units for it. Never lost signal anywhere with them. It's a weight thing too, as the og AU was a chunk to lug about.
The V2’s still kick ass. Honestly still can’t go wrong with them.

Walksnail has greatly improved image quality in a few months.....now they must improve their data transfer stability.....clearly they are not as good as DJI but they have shown a LOT of promise

@@JoshuaBardwell just looking at mbps does not really say all that much though. With the correct algorithm better quality could be pushed through lower mbps. Also actual latency should be taken into account, it is a tradeoff

Josh, this FW is 1 month old the newest from last week(5days old) is even better and RF is much more reliable. I was flying recently with 1 broken antenna on it and had extremely decent outcome(max 40ms latency) sure, full of studders and mB rate was all over the place but totally Flyable when you endit up with no other choice or different qwad. Plus now full canvas from osd can be seen in DVR.(and it is actually Official FW).

I just checked caddx discord server and website and it looks to me like 28.32.10 is still the latest stable. 29.x is beta. I discuss this in the video. When I tested beta walksnail firmware in the past, the results would change because walksnail released a new beta very fast, and sometimes it was worse than the one I tested. So I stopped testing walksnail betas. I don't want to put in 3 days of work to release a video and have it be invalid the day I release it.

Thank you Joshua, it's very informative. I have a question: why on v2 goggles color are much better than on o3 and image quality is also better on v2? when you fly above the asphalt it's clearly seen that v2 has no blockiness on the asphalt, but o3 shows asphalt pretty blocky and blurred..

Been flying the 03 air unit for a week with V2 goggles and love the improved image quality over over the Og vista and air unit.
I have been move them happy to ditch my session 5 for the on board recording. No more SD card slow error! :)

You should cover remote ID and how the FCC is changing the hobby. xjet had a great video covering it and awareness is key in fighting back against the FCC regulations.

Not quite the expected digital quality, I would say. I found the walksnail colours to be quite pale. I'v seen HDZero videos with quite better image, but the range cannot be compared.

Can you talk about manufacturing problems? My walksnail Vtx smoked for no reason then I bought another and it also smoked 😔, walksnail said they would replace ONE but I needed to send BOTH.
From what I saw on your video/graph walksnail got worse borate at 50 than it does at 25mbits/sec.
So from what I saw I know I'll be using 25mbits/sec as it's more consistent and get better lowest nitrate and even latency

Is the O3 air unit DVR footage being presented at 24 frames per second? Sorry if you mentioned it during the video, I was skipping around.
It's presented in 60 fps because that's the max that YT will show. The native recording rate is whatever the goggles are running at--120fps or 60 fps for V2 and 100 fps or 60 fps for Goggles 2.
@@JoshuaBardwell your video on youtube is presented at 60fps. You can frame-by-frame with the (period) key on your keyboard. With 30fps footage, and this CZcams video being 60fps, you should see a new frame every 2nd press of the period key. However, during that footage, you get a new frame every 2nd press, and occasionally every third press, indicating that the presented footage is in fact less than 30 frames per second. I was guessing when I asked if it was 24.
I just double checked and it looks like the file coming off the SD card was 25 fps. I can't really explain that though. The parameters of the goggles were definitely set as noted for the test.
EDIT: and the Goggles 2 DVR is 50 fps, which I'm guessing they're doing bc they don't want to encode 100fps so they're dropping every other frame?
Sadly, I can't think of a better option to record the G2 goggles since they don't support HDMI out. For the V2 goggles, we could use widefpv website to record the raw feed and I think that would give the full fps (but have not confirmed yet). But then we wouldn't get the SRT file to get latency info.
Were you able to set the time and date? I bought the walksnail 1S VTX in a BetaFPV Meteor 75 HD with the Avatar goggles. All the video files are 12-31-1999 23:59. I thought i just needed to set the time and date but I can't figure out how to do it. Then I read they don't support it?
Yes correct they don't have a real-time clock on the vTX so all the files are just dated the same.
Update from Europe: it applies also outside the USA & DJI is forcing also remote ID in the EU…

Personally owning all the systems, hdzero is in a league of its own. It’s better than analog but can’t hold a candle to wslksnail or Dji and with the release of the 03 forget about it because it’s galaxies ahead. Think of hdzero as a racers product and nothing more.

Walksnail appears to be prioritizing latency over bitrate.
Key operative statement….WS isn’t there YET!!….This system is barely 6 months old. They have plenty of time to catch up with continuing fw updates. Not sure if DJI has any more plans for the old Vista with fw updates or new cameras.

When you say "add" 5ms, is this at the screens full transition? I know a normal IPS/VA display panel can take 5 to 10ms to transition but OLED is closer to 0.1 to 1ms. This may be the difference between actual vs reported in goggles if the processor is measuring before sending off to display.

I often don't focus on price because it's so subjective. It's not like a line of video cards (for example) where you can calculate the dollars-per-performance in an objective way and see if something is a good value compared to the competition. How much more are you willing to pay for digital vs. analog? It's very subjective.
Also, prices change very fast in this field, so today's price is likely to be out of date in just a month or two.

The walksnail is a fixed 25mW. 200mW vtx the fatsharks 03 has more vtx's available ? Thats what i want . 200mW is for inside only
When DJI released the Avata, they positioned the Goggles2 only for this drone with no option to use anywhere else. I went out and bought Walksnail because of their compactness, the first version of DJI's goggles I didn't want to get because of the size. And recently DJI is releasing the O3 compatible with Goggles2 and moreover just recently making them compatible with Vista. And what kind of policy is it to say that there will be no compatibility and then make a release of a device which is compatible with these goggles? Basically I am happy with my purchase of the Walksnail, the glasses fit my face well but Goggles2 is said to have issues with them.
The question about backwards compatibility was asked straight away on release in the DJI Forums and across the community. They acknowledged the question, but didn't give a 100% FW update date. People were surprised when they put it out and saw the compatibility was now there. Feel your pain though about going WS possibly because of this dude. The issues with face fit with the G2's are even worse than they were with the release of the V1 @ V2's though. The nose pinching being the stand out issue. yes you can get different foam and whatever, but who do they test the fit with ????? I know peoples faces are all different sizes and all, but they must test it on a wider range of people and face shapes/sizes ?

Goggles 2 cannot do 120fps. The OLED panel is capped at 100 fps.
That's what I had heard, but saw another video out today saying they implemented backwards compatibility on them outside of the beta drivers now and 120 fps. 🤔

I'm going to be that guy who nitpicks something.
So video is a place I can provide professional input :
This may not apply much to the software you are using but it still could apply to viewers and my alternative may also have this problem anyway. If I were to take my DaVinci Resolve output processing render farm and have 720p video output at 4k, the software, which is very very good, would take that 720p video and upscale, much like your software has. It do advanced interpolation to turn pixels into smooth 4k lines. I don't say AI interpolation because I don't think your software is likely usually machine learning to do its interpolation, but I don't know.
Anyway, these days this software is so good, I mean truly remarkable, even in cheap software, that the 4k signal doesn't look to far off from native.
So, there is a case to be made for uploading 720p native at extremely high, lossless bitrates. In fact, you may find that CZcams would step on your video less, had it not been in 4k, and preserved your 720p stream better. Yes I know that less sentence now makes 4k sound worst. But you can see how it becomes a nightmare to control. 4k, wonderful up scaling, but CZcams steps down more, who knows.
Plus you'd may have this issue anyway, because of you upload native 720, people's devices with 4k screen will do their own up scaling, but in that case, at least not nearly as good.

The way I understand it, YT re-encodes everything and allocates bitrate based on resolution. So a 720p file will only get 12 Mbps VBR or whatever they assign to it, even if you upload a 100 Mbps 720p file. The reason this works is that YT allocates something like 45 Mbps to 4k files, so if you upres a 720p file, you end up 4k pixels in the file but only 720p "real" pixels of information for the encoder to deal with. A bunch of the pixels are just duplicates of adjacent pixels, which is very easy for the encoder to deal with. And the result is the closest thing we have to forcing YT to show a high-bitrate 720p file.
You can test this yourself. Take a 720p file, export it at 50 Mbps, then export it at 4k 50 Mbps and upload both files to YT and see which one looks better. Make sure the file has lots of motion so the encoder has to actually work.

You're right, I didn't consider the huge bitrate hit you'd take because YT judges based only on resolution. I didn't realize that. Kind of a bummer of them. High bitrate 720 or 1080 is great. Nice big pixels.

I’m thinking about getting the new goggles.. all the drones with vistas and v1 air units will work with the new goggles(which should be called the v3🤦♂️😂)
That should solve the issue.. and I want to grab a new 03 quad.. I know the dji quads make you enable remote ID but the prebuilt quads like an iFlight evoque don’t make you do it right?

That video breakup with the fatsharks reminds me of tripping on acid or some good ecstasy.
Assuming that Walksnail is reporting their latency correctly, it looks like Walksnail's reception algorithm is prioritizing the maintenance of the latency at the expense of bitrate, in comparison to DJI. Walksnail's latency is consistently around 10-11ms, where DJI is always 11-16ms. We need to bear in mind that Walksnail is probably, to a certain extent at least, also trying to compete with HDZero. Where HDZero claims always-low latency with significant compromise on HD Image quality, DJI has taken the opposite approach, and prioritized image quality above all else. Walksnail seems to be positioning themselves somewhere in the middle. Ultimately that leaves FPV fliers with three different choices, and can choose to suit their needs.
Who knows? Perhaps Walksnail will come out with a firmware in the future that will allow switchable priority for people that want to swap between latency and image quality preferences.
Walksnail reported latency is at least 5 ms faster than actual measurements. When it's reporting 21 ms, measurements are closer to 28 or 30.
What about long range, I mean over 10km. I think walksnail do a better job getting 40km against 13km from DJI.

Wezley has already stated o3 can go insanely far. He went 22km on stock antenna and the link was still good
The 3 km limit isn't there when using O3. It may also be removed for Vista with the new 01.01 firmware but that only works with goggles 2.
sad that jb is missing the setup that matches most "group flyers"... as soon as you fly in groups you most likely would use 700mW at 25mbs to not disturb each other as well as have 7 channels for people to fly in... in my experience this is where walksnail really shines and even outperforms dji sometimes...
but yes, in 1.2W or even just the 50mbs mode dji wins as walksnail still didnt fix them, bey are both kinda broken ^^

Walksnail does seem like a good option now, which is good, options are always good. But man....when I saw the image of the O3...hot dang....and the range just destroys walksnail and the original DJI goggles.

Test 5: o3 is clearly not 120fps, its not even 60fps, looks more like maybe 30fps, test 6 shows a higher frame rate despite it should be less 100fps vs 120fps, overall much better picture quality compared to test 5
The file coming off the SD card seems to be 25 fps. I can't really explain that but I'll surely look into it further :-/
I fly DJI and love it. Glad it is still holding up as compared to the new systems. Question though, I use the V1 goggles, will the new Air 03 still work with them?

I think you also should've mentioned the INAV compatibility, something that we care for long range flights. I cannot understand why DJI ruined an excellent feature that was achived in the previous generation.
This is mostly just a comparison of the image quality and range, not a whole system comparison. I'm working on that video too.
