  • This video helps you to familiarize about mechanical timer, i am explaining what is the function of timer, how can make analog timer settings, how mechanical timer works,how to use timer, what is inside of a mechanical timer, advantages and disadvantages of mechanical timer,
    Timers are very useful device, that can be used for various purpose like charge mobile phone overnight without worry about overcharging, automatic perfume dispenser, fan controlling overnight, Air condition controlling overnight by setting OFF time or ON time
    Time can be set by time interval for which connected device to be ON or OFF at that time interval

    Thanks for this video showing the internal mechanics of these devices. I have spent an hour trying to figure out if I can use one of these mechanical timers for a completely different use case, and unfortunately I think I can't. The use case is a bit strange, but basically is the following. I have an inflatable globe of diameter around 40-50 cm standing on a table in my living room. I'd like to spin it in 24 hours, so that it resemble the true Earth and shows different timezones and part of the world exactly as if it's the Earth spinning. I wanted to use a timer so that I place the globe on it. I had almost figured it out how to do, but thanks to your video I understand the rotation requires electricity. I was under the impression it was a pure mechanical mechanism using springs, but it is not, so no use case... Thanks. There is no rotating platform making a turn in 24 hrs which is what I need...

      The motor is usually 24V AC .. so get an approved 24V AC power supply (which then makes it all safe) and yeah, it can do that! Disclaimer. I'm only a drunk engineer. Don't trust me.

    my chickens love the timer. It controls their heat lamp. Because fucking daylight savings it doesn't get light here until 8am. I can set the timer to leave the lamp on til 9am. Very easy to use.

    Does this model have an internal battery to power the timer's clock during power failures when there is no mains electrical power for several hours at a time ?

      If any person tell you internal battery connection then u tell me

    • @mohanvvip
      @mohanvvip Před 3 lety

      No. The tiny clockworks motor is powered by the mains supply. This motor runs only when there's mains power. So if you have a half hour power failure, the clock will be off by a half hour from that time onwards. It's good if you need exactly 30 minutes of power at the socket, so if the mains power is off for 7 minutes, the motor will continue running immediately after the power resumes and power supply at the socket will actually be on for 30 minutes plus the 7 minutes without power.

      for such mechanism, it is impossible to have a backup battery, because the motor actually is working not only on the 110v/220v voltage but also working on the 50/60 hz frequency, which is also from the AC, and not possible (or too expensive) from a backup DC battery.

      What do you mean by the power goes ???

    • @shoyrushoyru
      @shoyrushoyru Před 2 lety

      @@strxwberry4766 "the power goes" is usually a phrase that means there is a power failure. one might say "if the power goes, the food in the fridge will spoil" or in the past tense "ugh, the power just went". i imagine this person means that if there is a power failure, the timer will no longer be keeping track of time, so when your power comes back on, your timer would need to be readjusted as it will be out of sync.
      example: its 4pm and you have a power failure. the power comes back on at 5pm. the timer still thinks its 4pm because its ability to track time is reliant on having power. now everything you have on the timer is going to happen an hour later than it normally should.

    sorry to tell you this is an ELECTRIC TIMER it is not a "MEchanica Timer" .....hint Mechanical timers do not use electricity.

    • @shoyrushoyru
      @shoyrushoyru Před 2 lety

      unfortunately this is the term for these kinds of timers with the mechanical wheel on it. the other common alternative would be a "digital timer" which has a screen instead of a mechanical wheel. its not about whether its powered by electricity or not
