I picked up a set of Carter Products guides for my 18" Jet bandsaw. It was really easy to change the guides only three bolts.

Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Shortly after CZcams started, I was looking for a howto video for duck calls, with no results I decided to make my own video. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together. We do a lot of epoxy projects as well as woodturning. - Jak na to + styl
Yes, I learned as a kid... I would build my own toys in dad's workshop out of whatever scrap was available. As I got more experience they got better and better. I was showing dad one that I thought came out well, with lots of detail. He admired it but commented... "If your going to put all this effort into a project you should start with good wood." I know many think "punky wood" is artistic but I still live by dad's advice.
That's great advice from your dad.
Great shoutout to Alex S. He is definitely the bandsaw master. Had the privilege of meeting him years ago during the Woodworking Shows. Carter bearings are an awesome upgrade. Looking forward to seeing you at SWAT.
Yes Alex is awesome! I'll see you in a few wees.
I have that exact same same band saw. The upgrade makes a big difference
Ya it's link a new bandsaw :)
Great to hear you guys had such a cool time! It was amazing to see you guys finally meet Pat :)
Ya it was a blast!
Have a great weekend.
On my list of upgrades 👍👍👍👍
It's been on my list for a long time too...lol
Nice shirt! That’s a good bandsaw. I think you’ll love those new guides for a long time.
Gotta love Andy :) I should be good to go for another 15 years :)
Gotta love Alex Snodgrass! After following his vids, I swore I had a new bandsaw.
Yes he's awesome!
Thanks, for the info. It was nice talking to you in Raleigh, NC. That was my first, but not my lastl
Thank you Bobby, it was nice talking with you too.
Great tips on the bandsaw....and a cool shirt..
Thank you Robert! Gotta love Andy :)
They look like excellent guides Carl ... been meaning to upgrade mine for a while ... now I might just go ahead and do it!! ;)
Take care
Mike
Zippp it!....LOL They're great guides you'll think it's a new bandsaw.
Have a great weekend Mike!
great work
Thank you!
I have photos of a guide assembly that just has a thrust bearing with a grove in it that the blade rides in...no side support. Does this work?
It works ok, but support from the sides helps with blade drift.
Was ready to spend $$$$ on a new premium bandsaw. Spent $ on Carter products and followed Alex Snodgrass’ process for set up on my old Grizzly and it cuts great and true.
Great info . You finally got to meat Pat . He lives about 2 1/2 hrs. from me . Hoping one of these day's to meet him and maybe you guys . Thanks take care .
We talked about coming up there and demoing at the Lee Valley store. It would be great to meet you too.
I had a real nice chat with you in Raleigh. I am in Georgia and I would really like to get to the West Coast and see your place. I grew up in So Cal but I know how beautiful Oregon can be.
It was nice visiting with you too Glen. If you do make it out to Oregon let me know.
Nice video, I like the shirt! 😊
Thank you Loren! Ya Andy is awesome! www.makerbitz.com/?fbclid=IwAR1KuEXm1WOh6x5Vq1x-3zYvSWv913E7Ee_qnA9tP-7IawXfv_j9c7ceVuY
Another nice vid Carl! Then again, all of your videos are very informative, to the point and easy to watch. I hope things are well with you and the family these days. Any new vids coming soon?
Thank you so much!! Because you asked ;) We bought Niles Bottle Stoppers! We're happy to be carrying it on for Ruth. There's so many great products for any skill level. As for the video's, we're still putting out one a week unless there's a symposium and we're out of town. Here's a link to the one we just put up today :) czcams.com/video/CMqQ0eQsGWc/video.html
Take care!!
Carl, it was great to meet you today. Hope you eventually found what you were looking for. I look forward to getting to talk to you again at one of the monthly meetings.
Hey Paul, it was nice meeting you too. Did you get the stand built for your lathe?
@@CarlJacobson I certainly did, it came out really well I think. Mounted the lathe and the sharpening grinder next to each other. I need to get my Instagram set up for pictures of that and some of the projects I have previously done.
I have basically the same bandsaw. Maybe a little older since mine is Green, Is that the kit from Carter for the 20" Jet? I have the same setup with my roller bearings. Big heavy, looks like pressed on bearings. with a outer thumb and finger lock screw. It looks like its the same setup as yours. Can you give me the product # or part number for that kit. Thanks.
I think this is the right one, but I'd check with them. www.carterproducts.com/band-saw-products/band-saw-conversion-kits/jet-20
Thanks, believe you're right. Thanks again.
Man I love Pat's videos. You introduced me to him via the 5 minute goblet challenge. His videos are a lot of fun, I bet he's a super rad guy in person. I'm sure those guides will do you well, anything made by a "Carter" will be good 😉. Stay cool my friends.
Yes Pat's awesome!! :)
Ya Pat is great it was nice to finally meet him.

I have Carter bearing guides on my Powermatic 14” bandsaw and I hate them, every time I go to use my saw the bearings freeze up! If anybody has some old style guides I’ll trade ya.
does robust not sponsor you anymore?
No, but I'm still a dealer for them.
Love Carter &Sons products. I found out about them long ago , m ore than likely when it was just Carter and he had no sons yet!
Hi James, this is Carter Products it's not the same company.
@@CarlJacobson, The bandsaw guide people out of Grand Rapids Mi.? I have used their Bandsaw guides for well over 40 years and even have one of their steady rests for my lathe. They are a great company and have impeccable customer service as well. When I lived in Mi, I would go to Grand Rapids and stop in there as well as the KV hardware plant and spend time salmon fishing at the 5th street dam. Guardsman Chemical was around then and I took the lacquer finishing courses. Helped me greatly in my woodworking.
Love your taurus project.
Maybe it was just my viewer that I was watching this on but the light through the glass doors really makes for poor image quality where you were working at. The camera automatically adjusts for the light through the door and makes the bandsaw area too dark. It was better when you did a close-up and eliminated most of the glass door. Otherwise thanks for the info.
