  • Earlier this year, I spent some time back home in Columbus, IN visiting all of my old stomping grounds... the house I grew up in, my high school, the Columbus Fairgrounds where I raced every weekend. Ride along with me as we take a tour of my hometown.

    I grew up rural. Waved to all our neighbors and they waived back. Even if you didn't know their name, you knew the truck they drove and the house they lived in 2 miles down the road. These days, the people across the street or 2 houses down just stare when you're outside with the kids and you wave. That's part of what's wrong with this country. God bless Tony for being a good, humble man.

      eh well the short ones we have plenty but Iowa, California, and Ohio have more, but we got more then Michigan even though they have more wide open spaces and undeveloped areas, but they only got 4 dirt tracks crystal, and butler to name a few, I am sad though we dont have at least one more half mile dirt track then Terre Haute, we used to have one at Montpelier and the one at the state fairgrounds by the Hoosier mile but oh dont let tradition get in the way of money as they decided to put down limestone so they can use it as a harness horse race track year round never mind that we were only one of 4 mile dirt tracks at state fairgrounds left and we are known for auto racing, and decided to turn the inner half mile there to parking for the state fair, I know it might be old news now but I want Hoosier racing fans to know what they did and in the racing capital of the world no less,
      though at the county fairgrounds they did build a furious 1/4 mile for indy at marion county and they do a fine job on taking care of it with water and tamping, at circle city, ran and built by the guys that run the speeddrome, was there two weeks ago for the maiden run and had no less then Tony's allstar circuit of champion 410 sprints there where home town blood Tyler Courtney won just by a half a car lenght, and they had some 3/4 a series also owned by smoke, it was also Smokes 50th birthday and we was planning to come to the track but didn't make it but was selling tickets for lots of memorabillia of his and for charity :}
      I wish he would have came though its not every day or even in decades a new dirt track is built in Indiana let alone in the heart of the racing capital of the world as they call indy, just wish it was bigger or high banked at circle city its only semi banked and they really have to drive their cars there that turn three was rough starting out that night :} I could not have asked for more but maybe a friend to come with me.
      few have done more for racing in indiana then Tony in modern times,
      people can make fun of the small towns all they like but we do have some neat shops and one of a kind places here tucked away in indiana, not to mention we have the largest sports stadium seating wise at the brickyard, the largest childrens choir and kids museume in indy, the largest traditional archery provider in the world by size and product lines, and the winningest racecar driver of all time steve kinser, and winningist coach of all time that was born here john wooden, we have the largest distillery also at least as far as I know in lawranceburg, and the magnet wire and atificial joint capital of the world, and we have produced more steel then any state in the union the last few years leading the nation in tonnage, we also have the best collector cars ever made in auburn, first dedicated collector car auction in the world there when the kruses started and barrett jackson and mecum started up from former employees of the familys auction buisness, and we have two of the best paintball marker makers around in fort wayne among other things from there. we also have all the greatness the honeywell corperation is that started out in walbash indiana and still has a presance there and all of its beautiful houses.
      and one would be hard pressed to take any of that away especially the winningest driver and coach, or largest stadium you cant get much bigger then full capacity almost 400000 people that the brickyard would fit if you filled all the stands and area around it, thats larger then the size of the population of the fort wayne metro area and its the second biggest city population wise in indiana and has one of the largest counties in indiana. so if you like cars corn small shops its not so bad, its pretty cheap here and not too far from the big cities, and plenty of tracks to go watch a race at.
      now will someone please put up a new dirt mile and let us race cars on it ? this is our lineage to carry for the next generation or at least a high banked half mile please please please?

    This is the side of Tony that alot of people don't see ...I can relate to him....I'm from Garrett Indiana which is 5 miles from Avilla....there was a speedway there ...and that is where I spent alot of time as a kid growing up....I also raced go cart's...my grandfather would take me to go cart races all over northern Indiana.... Garrett had a A&W right down the street from where I grew up....and yes everyone waived at each other in town as well....just saw Tony win the rumble in Fort Wayne in 2021.....WAY TO GO SMOKE....🏎️🏎️🏎️

    Love Columbus still and enjoy living here. Parents owned Annalee’s Bride and Groom in east Brook Plaza. Chocola out of the vending machine next to the old True Value. Grilled cheese at Ketchum’s Cornucopia. Garcia’s Mexican restaurant on Friday nights. Anyone remember what was spray painted on the house across from Marsh Grocery? You can’t hide B**ch! Lol! Nice video Tony.

    Love this... I live up in Auburn which is a BIG car town and we have the same atmosphere up here. When it's Auburn Auction time, everyone crowds the streets and heads to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum parking lot to start showing off whatever they drove. I'm pretty you've been up here, but if you haven't we'd love to have ya. Alexis Dejoria and her race team hang out here quite a bit during the NHRA season and it's awesome to them roll in to town. Good stuff Smoke
