  • Introducing Miller House and Garden
    www.imamuseum.o...
Commissioned by industrialist and philanthropist J. Irwin Miller and his wife Xenia Simons Miller in 1953, Miller House expands upon an architectural tradition developed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe-epitomizing the international Modernist aesthetic-with an open and flowing layout, flat roof and stone and glass walls. The rooms, configured beneath a grid pattern of skylights supported by cruciform steel columns, are filled with textiles that feature strong colors and playful patterns. Amid the residence's large geometric gardens, its grandest feature is an allée of honey locust trees that runs along the west side of the house. In 2000, the Miller House became the first National Historic Landmark to receive its designation while one of its designers, Dan Kiley, was still living and while still occupied by its original owners. The house showcases the work of leading 20th-century architects and designers: Eero Saarinen, Alexander Girard, and Dan Kiley.

ero was the greatest con artist ,, he dooped the millers into paying large amount of money for no creative at all...the house is more about the mystery of whats behind the giant bushes,...after u see it you realize its dull and disapointing....!
its just hard to understand ,asking a friend and supposed great designer to build your home , and he literally gives you a square house all white interior.! i mean serious where is the creativity in that ? could have made it so much more interesting,... and honestly dont understand the functionality of who lived there ....they sure lived dull life....

You sound like you have taste of a blind person who’d like Drake’s new home in Toronto.

@@inevahdie i've seen videos of abandoned shacks with more interesting design/concepts.. its not fair to mention the architect when the interior designer did all the interesting things and most of those aren't that impressive .. if i give a kid box of legos and only uses white ones to create a 1 story square im not going to praise him

You make some good points. But keep in mind the time it was built. Most people had swallowed the kool-aid from the bauhaus at the time. Based on that, the house has real finesse despite the minimalist orthodoxy of the time. The maturity and pristine nature of the landscape tarts it up alot. The flatness of the topography and the house is pretty stifling to me, why not a second story?
