  • I have bought most aftermarket upgrades for the Sur Ron electric motorcycles and this is by far the best upgrade for under $500 in my opinion. What do you think is the best?

    What about the fact that the 21” bicycle wheel has thinner spokes making it easy to snap when you do lots of jumps on the bike? Bicycle wheel spokes are designed to support bikes with much lighter weight.that’s one of the problems I’ve run into when I jump the bike I snap spokes a lot

    • @ianhill20101
      @ianhill20101 Před 2 lety

      Got home and found 3 spokes snapped, its a 14inch competition trial rim on a kuburg with 12g spokes, ripped the heads clean out the hub flange many look heavily worn, a motor bikes hub differs alot to pedal power i think thats half the problem too.

    • @SurRonshop
      @SurRonshop Před 2 lety +3

      Hi Bruce! What spokes model did you use for your wheel build with which you experienced snapping issue? Factory Surron moto spokes are less strong than the DT Champion 2.0 we use. We never had any complaints of this nature from customers over years of supplying larger mtb front wheels for Sur-Ron.
      In fact, good quality bicycle components outperform motorcycle gear sometimes. For example, a Fox 40 fork works much better on a Sur-Ron compared to Chinese fastace moto-fork alternative. Most of the Sur-Ron components are MTB parts: brakes, suspension, hubs

    Just got my sur ron, new break pads and a 56t sprocket. This seams awsome too, but i also like the idea of the quiet belt drive! Could you do a "belt drive in mud test" maybe?

    • @NarcoSarco
      @NarcoSarco Před 2 lety +3

      People allways say belts dont work in mud but i have never seen something actually happen :)

    • @russellzauner
      @russellzauner Před 2 lety

      @@NarcoSarco I'd think that belts would be way superior to victimization from grit compared to a lubricated chain. If the belt slips, use more aggressive drive lugs (get deeper than a chain in that footprint). Friends that have the belt drive on their harleys all love it because they don't have to do squat for maintenance except replace the belt. No lubing, no chain tools, bla bla bla bla I was kind of surprised that they didn't have a small linear CVT of some type because after seeing all the EV upgrades literally tear apart chassis not designed for the sheer magnitude and zero latency forces that EV can apply I didn't think it would be a cost effective (or energy efficient) chain driven system that could hold up. Belts are an OBVIOUS upgrade in this case.
      Soft robotics is the future and that extends to all mechanical applications. Belts. I went and hunted for some frames again with the knowledge (thanks to the channel) that Segway frames were effectively the same and saw that Luna actually offers a belt upgrade pre-installed. I would have picked that option if I was buying new because that gets me directly into the belt ecosystem so I can start upgrading those without having to install all the base conversion stuff myself.
      Well, now that we don't have to deal with the limitations of chain drive, we can explore things like curved belts, advanced tooth/gear geometry, and spherical articulation components. There's an active, toothed ball joint system I've been fascinated by ever since the paper was published. I've been thinking of ways to wrap and drive that joint with a dynamic control system instead of gears now that someone showed me such a thing exists. :-)

    Isn't mtb wheel just going to slide out much more easily tho? I mean there's a reason why most companies that specialize on Surron's wheels are strictly against those kind of setups. Not to mention it's probably not strong enough for this weight, especially if you are on a heavier side and/or have bigger battery.
