Just wanted to put this here as my respect for Stephen Hillenburg and everybody who worked on those first seasons of this show. I was born in the early 2000s and my childhood was parents who didnt get along (later to be divorced) and I as a kid wasnt watched over and did things by myself. My mother although bought me dvds very often of cartoons that I normally watched past midnight because I never had parents that put me to sleep.
Literally all my happiness as kid came from this show and I remember I could feel the connection without knowing these passionate people who made it. I dont have connections with either of my parents anymore because items like drugs, sex, etc. were more important to them, but in a way this show raised me and looking back for a tv show it didnt do that bad a job doing so.

The idea that there are human beings like Stephen Hillenburg really restores ones faith in humanity. A marine biologist comes up with an idea about a sponge living under the sea and the whole fictional reality surrounding it. I don't know, I just love every bit of it and wish there were more people this original and brave enough to carry out their crazy ideas. By the way, there is a species of marine sponge named after him.

What a cartoon. I watched these with my little girl. Bought videotapes, then bought DVDs, bought the video game and we [layed the life out of it while laughing our butts off. I will watch them by myself now just because they are funny as hell and they remind me of the times as a single Dad raising my girl. She will graduate 12/21 with double Bachelor's degrees from U of Washington. This fun fact has nothing to do with SpongeBob but I am just so damn proud of her and like to tell people. Wait, maybe SpongeBob has a lot to do with it.

I watched SpongeBob as a 5 year old (nothing's changed, but I now understand the supposed "adult" jokes) and now I have a 4 year old sister and an almost-2 year old brother who loves the show. When my kids were young, we'd lay on the bed together and watch an hour of Sponge Bob together before sending them off to bed. One of those kids is now off to college and the other is not far behind. To this day, we'll recite some of our favorite lines of dialog spontaneously to each other from memory. The "raspberry speak" from the Rock Bottom episode will get pulled out when I am trying to get their attention ( "I 'phhhbtt' said, When 'phhhbtt' will you 'phhhbtt' be home tonight 'phhhbtt'?") Those early seasons (say 1 - 10) have really been a common experience that we share to this day. And I don't mind saying that even though I'm over 50, I'll still watch the older episodes when I simply want to chill. Thank you Mr. Hillenburg for all the amazing memories, indeed.

I had the opportunity to have an unofficial, private tour of the animation studios and meet a lot of directors and animators (I've had friends who've worked there). The working environment there is like nothing I've ever seen; everyone is goofy and, at first you think that they don't get anything done because I saw more people goofing off than working, but they all seem like the best of friends and being somewhere that lets them be happy and free, lets them be passionate about their work, which is why they actually get stuff done and get it done well. They're allowed to love what they do.
