I have a 229 Legion and it's by far my favorite gun. Every now and then I'll shoot some new type of gun and think " wow this is a good shooter"! Then I pick up my Legion and think " belay my last"! I will pass my 229 Legion on to my daughter one day.

I have the Legion 226, as well... (and this 229 Elite). I know exactly where you're coming from. I've tried other guns and think they are also great shooters, then shoot my Sig and think "What was I thinking?" Mine, too, will be passed to my daughter. But for now, she as her own Legion 938! LOL.

@@mauriciomartinez1825 I used to wear a traditional, IWB Kydex holster for my 229 (and sometimes my 226). I discovered belly bands and never went back. With the belly band, I can wear almost any gun, any size, any weight. The belly band allows me to wear it a little higher up on my body and since the band carries the full weight of the firearm, I'm not always having to lift my pants up on my strong side. It lets the belt do what it's supposed to do... hold my pants up! PLUS, it nice when you have to go to the bathroom in a public place and not have to mess with finding a place to put my gun after unbuckling my belt.

The P229 in all calibers since 2010 all use the same frame (P229-1). Before 2010 the 9mm P229 used a frame with a smaller magwell and the .40/.357 SIG P229 used a different frame. The change to the same size frame was to make it simpler and more economic to manufacture. The added benefit like you pointed out is the 15 round flush fit magazines vs. the older 13 round flush fit magazines in 9mm.

Great video. I bought a SIG P229 Enhanced Elite earlier this year and love the SRT and beavertail. You would think the beavertail wouldn't matter with a bore axis this high, but I tried a regular P229 in a gunshop and it hits my thumb knuckle in a way that would beat it without the beavertail. The employee even pointed it out to me, but as soon as I tried one with a beavertail it was perfect.

I've looked at a ton of reviews as I am interested in moving to the 229 as my carry. I currently carry the DOA p250. I love the gun, and by your description, assume the double action is very similar. Smooth and flawless. However, the DOA, while great for follow l up shots, it is limited in it's rapid fire capability. Which is why I am sitting here listening to you.
I am built like you and have zero issues carrying a larger gun than most others either can or care to. Blah blah blah. The point I am trying to make is that I appreciate your in-depth review. It has answered all remaining questions that I had. Thanks for taking the time.

You’re the first person I’ve heard actually state that philosophy - to (first) set up your gun to best survive a situation and thus be alive to (second) defend your modifications in court. It’s why we make the mods after all right? We like to tinker to be sure but I’d guess most mods are intended to be performance enhancements. Now the back plate with “Kill em all”...maybe not so much. Great videos! Keep them coming!

As always, Great Video super informative. Question....what do you think is a better overall shooter This Sig 229 or the Sphinx SDP Compact? I shot the Sig Legion today and was really surprised how much I liked it. I have seen many videos stating that it has a high bore axis and there is more felt recoil and muzzle flip, which is why I wasn’t interested in the Sigs. However after shooting one today, I found it to be super comfortable to shoot. I shot it well. I’m in between the Sig and the Sphinx. Both felt great in the hand. @@anthonycaldi7056 mainly because the Sphinx isn't super smooth as far as the trigger goes in DA. Most Sig hammer guns are just butter smooth. I could’ve sworn I also had one in .40, and was kind of meh about it as well. In my 30’s, pistols only had a temporary residency in my home while I was searching for others. Looking back, My dislike of those two pistols was my own personal failing. At the time I was all about Wilson CQB .45 ACP, Clint Smith, Col. Cooper and all that discipline. The only meaningful difference among pistols is what happens 25 yds. down range on an 8 in. target . Most people can shoot about 5 rounds before muscle fatigue affects holding ability. Shooting gets better with a pistol that allows a solid grip, and has a heavy slide to force a stronger hand grip and mitigate recoil and muzzle flip. Plastic bricks don't lend themselves to marksmanship. High capacity magazines are a psychological crutch. You're only out-gunned if you miss.

Did you say you have 1M rds thru your mk25?
If that’s true, that is quite impressive. How long have you owned it and how often do you shoot?
I’ve heard of 2-300K rds with some weapons but have never heard of someone actually having put a Mil thru one gun, no matter the brand.
Another question, how many barrels has it gone thru, cuz I’m interested and will be tellin this story to a few fellow gun guys cuz that’s amazing!

Nice review. FWIW Mec Gar (one of two oem mag manufacturers for Sig) does make 18rd flush mags for the 226. Not sure why Sig does not rebrand them. Just noticed your comment about why 229 vs 226 at same mag size.

@@clayreddig2435 I have this same mag. It fits flush in my Legion 226 but there is a small gap when I use it in my 229. BUT, when carrying concealed, who cares what it looks like as long as it works? AND IT DOES WORK, PERFECTLY. It's not a large gap but it's there. 18+1 is still better than 15+1.

Would just like to point out that all P-series guns have an internal safety that blocks the firing pin when you use the decocker. So if you chamber a round and decock using the lever you can drop the gun on the hammer and it will not fire. If you manually decock the hammer like you have to with a beretta m9/92 you would be bypassing this safety feature.

Man, THANK YOU J! EXCELLENT IDEA FORNTHE SLIDE RELEASE BRO! I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT - NEVER THOUGHT OF SWITCHING IT OUT FOR THE SMALLER 224 RELEASE!!!! JUST SUBSCRIBED BRO - SS P226 - 229 ARE OVERALL THE MOST DEPENDABLE-ACCURATE PISTOLS AVAILABLE. MY DAD WOULD TRY TO ARGUE GLOCK19 BUT HE'S NEVER OUTSHOT ME ON THE RANGE AND HE'S HAD TO DEAL WITH A FEW MISFIRES AND OR MALFUNCTIONS WHEREAS I NEVER HAVE NOT EVEN ONCE. IF YOU'RE SOMEONE WHOSE OCCUPATION COULD PLACE YOU IN THE LINE OF FIRE AND YOUR SIDEARM COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE IN LIFE OR DEATH - LOOK NO FURTHER MY FRIENDS. SAME GOES FOR HOME PROTECTION. I KNOW MY WEAPON IS GOING TO FIRE AND FIRE ACCURATELY BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT WHETHER IT BE MY 1ST OR MY 1,000TH SHOT. IF SOMETHING WERE TO GO WRONG IT WOULD BE DUE TO USER ERROR OR MALFUNCTION NOT THE WEAPON. ALSO IF YOU'RE A RELATIVELY NEW SHOOTER OR EVEN AN EXPERIENCED MARKSMAN - WHAT J SAYS ABOUT MISFIRES IN STRIKER TYPE PISTOLS IS VERY VERY REAL AND HAPPENS MORE THAN YOU'D IMAGINE TO SHOOTERS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND EXPERIENCE LEVELS. NOT SAYING THAT THEY'RE ALL GARBAGE BUT ANY RISK I CAN CUT OUT WHILE NOT LOSING ANY NOTABLE EFFICIENCY OR EFFECTIVENESS IS A NO BRAINER. I CAN RAPID FIRE (MORE ACCURATELY) AT THE SAME RATE OR EVEN FASTER WITH MY SIG.

I've had both a 229 Legion and a 226 Legion. Both were great guns, but I didn't care for the X-ray 3 sights (specifically the front) and really the only true upgrade is the undercut frame. Everything else can be replicated for less money. 800$ or so is about my threshold for a carry gun.

Not much really, the M11 has a bobbed frame, no rail, some corrosion resistant parts, SRT trigger and some M11 markings and "P228" grips. Mechanically it's a P229-1, just in a bit more concealable layout.

(I copied and pasted this message that I left on another reply on a comment further up. I just didn't feel like typing the same thing all over again, BUT)... I used to wear a traditional, IWB Kydex holster for my 229 (and sometimes my 226).
