This guy is literally the absolute best online guitar teacher there is hands down. His website is gold.
Thank you! I appreciate the words 😀
He's absolutely fantastic.
Unbelievable. This lesson is brilliant. It fills in all the gaps for me. Thank you to the person who made the request that generated this lesson. You're the best Brian. Appreciate you persevering through the heat to complete this😊 mission.
Glad to hear it Ken! Thanks for watching!
All credit goes to Brian for his fantastic channel! Except for the miniscule part I will claim for making the request. 😊
I had the same exact question coming out of the last video. I even started trying to figure it all out on my own today. Then I see this video and Brian comes right out and says it’s a waste of time lol. I’m still going to go through the exercise and figure it out.
Perfect, thank you so much. Always better than just 'here's the thing', is 'here's what you need about the thing and here's how to do the rest of the thing if you want/need it.'
Much appreciated.
This is such a great video!! And yes a lot of people over complicate it as I was one. But your videos helped me understand the same things much more clearly and simpler . Thank you for another great lesson.
Hi Brian
Thanks so much for the lessons, you are a dedicated teacher
such a great teacher, direct and simple. you are a blessing sir.
Brilliant as always
Best teacher on CZcams
Thank you!
haha thanks.. i knew somr bar chords and caged system in my 12 weeks teaching the guitar but now first time i understand the chords in the scales better.. thanks
The most effective road map to learn guitar I have ever seen so far in the CZcams. 👍👍
Top notch teaching
Excellent video! You shouldn't torture yourself in the heat. Turn the ac on and just add noise reduction in the audio. The heat will drive anyone crazy.
Hi Brian
A huge thank you for your dedication. I am a devout watcher of all the videos on the channel, and you undoubtedly teach the theory in the most comprehensible way possible.
I would be very happy if you could teach solo playing, improvisation solo on the chords, changing positions and more.
Thanks again :)
Good luck always
Your one of the best on CZcams Big B. You always give out lots of info and good instruction. I'm serious. 💯. Oh I've seen many take care 😎✌️🎸💯. I'm older guy 😊
Thanks Mike! I appreciate you following along with my vids!
@@zombieguitarI highly recommend you to others along with your program.
Love how you care about your subscribers, you take the time to read and answer questions and comments . Shows you care. Champion mate.
Thanks for an outstanding follow up lesson!!!
That helps a lot, actually. Thanks Brian 👍
You told the main things we need to learn in guitar playing. Thanks a lot, God bless you!👍
Brian is the best guitar teacher, his website is 100% worth it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Man I picked up something new yet again. I bet if I watch it again, more light bulbs will light!!!
Most other channels are parsley. Brian and Zombie Guitar is the meat and potatoes. Thanks Brian 👍🏼
Thanks for bearing the heat to teach!😊
I’m going from ZERO theory understanding to some comprehension….its really helping.
I’ve got good rhythm and feel, this stuff is the missing pieces.
And yes, I am that nerd…in a jam circle, guy calls out just the 1st chord….a Bb, and with my circle of 5ths wheel, I got the other 2 chords and got to playing along! I don’t care what other pple think of me, I’m into the feel and groove, and want to be on key and know what’s coming next
Watching from Houston with no power, I'm sweating, too 😊. Great video. It gives me something practice when I get the power back.
Top lesson Brian 👌
Came across your lesson. Always worth stopping by
Absolutely brilliant lesson thank you Brian for demystifying some of this theory
Great work as always Brian thank you for such fantastic detail
Killer lesson, really helped me fill in cracks in my practical knowledge. Any more lessons you could think of in this vein would be welcomed.
Thanks man!, great lesson🎶
Great lesson. Thank you.
Great content.
Very good job. Thanks
No sweat Brian ... great lesson!! 😰😨
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you brian for the great lesson😊
Brian, I just wanted to tell you. I've been playing for 2 years and bought your course and have logged on learned the first layer of the fretboard and let that digest this past year and am now ready to move on to the caged system and chord tone targeting. Compared to other people, I feel as if I have learned way more theory about how to sound good way faster. Thanks for your course making everything about theory as simple as it could possibly be.
Hey I appreciate the words! I'm glad to hear that the site has been helpful for you. Thank you for using it! 😀
I'm the one that posted the second one you mentioned and I was serious but it came across more complicated then it meant to be.
Basically Eg.. Key of Am/C, for 6th & 1st chord play box 1 @ 5th fret, for 2nd & 4th chord play box 4 @ 5th fret and for 3rd & 5th chord play box 4 @ 7th fret.
Took a minute to work it out,
But I got what you were talking about👍
@@matthewperry6506 oh okay...sorry about that then! I understand now that you are talking about the "switching pentatonics" or the "3 pentatonics" approach. That is certainly a valid approach for sure, and I've done lesson vids on it before...but it's not my personal favorite method. I personally prefer to think "one scale and target chord tones", which is what I was talking about in this video.
Here's an older video about the "3 pentatonics" approach. I believe I just used pentatonic box #1 for each of the 3 pentatonics, whereas you are talking about lumping it all together into one small fretboard area. It's the same idea though: czcams.com/video/jNubvZbZ9k0/video.html
Love this lesson! Fills big gaps with just a little. Had the similar problem with air conditioner making noise through interface and it just being noisy. Solved interface noise by running ac off seperate circuit from greenhouse breaker outside the studio and adding fan to drown out ac mechanical noise in room also allows me to set thermastat lower. Hope that helps. Stay cool 😎
He’s got the AC on his pointer and pinky
I'm always fighting outside noise. I found that the only best time to record videos is at 4 am in the morning 🤣. Thanks for the suggestions!
@@BriarFleet I see what you did there!
@@BriarFleet if he's in the A minor box 1 he sure does 🤣
@@zombieguitar yw man keep rocking it! Same here with outside noise since farm was broke into and neighbors started threatening to jump me and steal my stuff. (Bratty young adults, they're "gangsters" whos parents have cattle lol) The fan and surveillance cameras monitor in the studio help ignore the riff raff outside. Occasionally ill fire off a few rounds and tell ppl to f off when they get out of hand drunk over there, but usually the fans drown them out.
Killer lesson 🔗
We don’t mind if there’s the AC noise on your next lessons. Your teaching is very enlightening to an almost 47 year old returning to playing guitar like me.
Thank you
This stuff is great! That's exactly what I was looking for. The funny thing is I played in original bands for 20+ years. I was never into covers but am now looking to get into covers and playing in cover bands. I think it would be amazing to see you break down cover songs for guys that are wanting to break into playing covers and cover bands! Maybe a spin off kindof thing on your channel. 🤷♂️
Thanks!
Thank you! Much appreciated 😀
Greatest You tube video ever!!!
Great lesson, Brian. The third chord in the pattern one has the shape of C minor, not A minor. We keep in the same position.
@@Ahmed-kv4up yes there is that shape available too, but it's easier to recognize that the ii and iii chords are always found in the same shape, separated by a whole step...and this applies to all positions!
Great lesson! You can edit out ac noise with phase cancellation, Kenny gioia has a good video on it (reaper mania).
You practically solved a lot of my guitar problems.😅😅😅😅
Best on YT x
Thank you!
I tried the 20/80 at work it seems to going well for me, although others don't think so.
I'm also a lifetime member
Thank you Larry, much appreciated!
Such a great lesson! But where can I find this video at ZG?
Thanks Max! It's not on there yet, but it will be by the end of the week.
Thank you so much! 🎸🎼🎶🐻
Thank you for sharing. Would you say if we are into learning blues then the 2nd pentatonic box would be good to learn in addition to 1 and 4 (along with the associated chords within)? Reason I ask is because I see a lot of material being covered around blues licks in the "home base" shape of that 2nd box.
I'm actually going to do a vid in response to this question next week. "Blues theory" is a bit different of an approach then what we are talking about here, but even in blues you will find that box #1 and #4 are the ones that are used most often. In order to expand a bit for more "diagonal" playing, people usually add the "upper and lower extensions" to each box pattern. The upper extension is a little piece of box #2 and the lower extension is a little piece of box #5. I will go over all of this in the next vid!
@@zombieguitar thank you for the response, sounds good, you da man! I think we'll all forgive the noise if you have to turn on the AC next time. We're at 115F in Central Valley Cali. I feel ya.
I just quit a "band" because the bassist refused to change keys to match vocals. He kept saying " sing it in your voice ". But my voice is in another key than the original. He wouldn't budge. So instead of straining my vocals. I just stepped down. Is that a normal thing to experience in a band?
My learning is complete then 😂
🤣
Thanks for the great tutorial. One question, is G postion the first position? If yes, why is the system called CAGED and not GEDCA? This is a bit confusing sometime.
I highly recommend not using CAGED names to label "positions". There are pentatonic positions, and then there are CAGED chord shapes.
Using CAGED names to label positions is the root cause of the confusion with the CAGED system.
The reason why is explained here: czcams.com/video/x2Mb2U-0FUA/video.htmlsi=1Rucb9WXIUwPDiGG
@@zombieguitar Thanks for the video. Man, you have just a fantastic way of explaining everything. This is why I bought your courses in the past (it's a lot of material and I haven't go through everything yet). For the longest time, I have linked the pentatonic scale to the CAGED system. It has helped me very good in the sense that can solo over the entire fretboard. But based on your explanation, I see that I'm missing the $1M in the safe. Thanks for sharing all this this knowledge to us.
Thanks for this! (Since I am a little slow, can somebody check my work here for figuring out 2,3 and 7 chord, pentatonic position 4?) So Pentatonic position 4, 2 chord is d shape with 3rd moved down?, 3 chord is same shape moved up two frets, and not sure what the diminished looks like......... Anybody have ideas?
Yes that is exactly right. Here's an older lesson on diminished chords (it's super old so the quality sucks, but it will still give you the shapes you need). The video link takes you right to the spot in the video where the shape is used czcams.com/video/7ytTmKeSVXQ/video.html
@@zombieguitar So (In the key of A major) the root of the 7 chord is G#? And I could play the diminished chord like this
e|---4--- (high E string)
B|---4--- (B string)
G|---5--- (G string)
D|----------
A|--------
E|---------
The notes played are:
G# (on the 4th fret of the high E string),
B (on the 4th fret of the B string),
D (on the 5th fret of the G string).
??
@@zombieguitar Buy the way, these old ones are classic. These are the no funny stuff focused videos that got me started on you years (And years) go..... Love them..
