The mantis cannot possibly take down a tarantula but does not seem to realize this and keeps bothering the spider. The spider was not hungry and didn't consider the mantis a threat otherwise this would have ended very quickly. I've seen feeding videos from people who keep tarantulas and they can strike prey (or an unwelcome male making mating approaches to a female) so fast that the eye has trouble following the action. The spider keepers jokingly call this "teleporting".
It’s terrifying how fast these guys are. Even at 0.25x speed they move very quickly

@@unverified_Vids Most well handled and taken care of tarantulas are fine outside of camouflage. I'm pretty sure the stressor in this situation was exclusively the small green thing trying to attack it.
And it didnt flick any hairs at it so I think it was probably just annoyed at worst.

Praying mantises don't really recognize anything larger than themselves as potential prey, and is more likely to perceive them as a threat. That's why the mantis didn't care to try to eat the big leaf insect (an herbivore, btw), or the tarantula.
