Riverview Dairy corn silage 2020

  • This year's silage season looks a little different from the years before. After a wet year last year, we decided to purchase 12 dump carts to spread out for demos through the different chopping systems for the dairies. We ran two amity and one crop chaser carts on three john deere 9570rx tractors, and a few days on an 8410rx. There was a bit of a learning curve at the beginning but by the end, the team mastered the system. Special thanks to Emmanuel for the pile covering footage.

That is a nice collection of equipment you have on the farm. And that silage pile looked so stunning. Smooth slopes and nice centered it was facinating to see. Awesome job from those drivers, it's great to see people handling big heavy equipment so precise.

Up here in the Red River Valley all our Sugar Beet trucks are equipped with an Ez-tow system as are a bunch of big 4wd or fwa tractors to pull the trucks along through the clay all the way out to the highway. Costly harvesting that way. Running 400hp 4wds all day then running scrapers to clean the clay off the highway.

Small farms use crop rotation, and other methods to avoid weeds and other pests. Small farms use less commercial fertilizers, plus 20 small guys mean you have 20 entrepreneurs.
