I need to try these. Those cobalt colors and the perylene red are beautiful. Thanks Marty!

Thanks for this. This is also my preferred brand. I especially like the Delft Blue as a mixer with an earth brown to produce a wonderful range of lights and darks which can often be enough for a fast sketch . Thanks for the pleasure of your company.

Great idea to use windows as a way to swatch your colours. You did get lots outnof those dots. Schmincke is a dependable and traditional brand. I always knownwhat I get. It is consistent and it always delivers quality. I haven't been dissatisfied yet. As Germans say "Who buys cheap, buys twice" (Wer billig kauft, kauft zweimal) On your comment about "High German" (a.k.a "Hochdeutsch") This is the standard language, spoken without accent or dialect. It is said that people from Hannover speak the best German. "Low" German (Niederdeutsch or Plattdeutsch) is referred as German spoken near the low land areas near the northern coast. I live in Berlin, where lots of local jargon and expressions. I stick to Hochdeutsch. The language is difficult enough to entertain learning dialects! 😂

Thank you Berolina - I will always love Schmincke. I remember buying a small palette when I lived in Germany. It was on sale in a small art store, maybe the store also sold other things, my memory is fuzzy. Anyway the exchange rate was 4.5 Marks to the US dollar so I was living very well for a poor guy at the time. I lost that palette at some point in many moves, but I will never forget how good the paint was.
About specking German - In the video, did my German seem like it was high or low or a mix? I don't remember some words so I had to look them up and pronunciations are hard to remember without some help.
      Thank you for watching!

@@owingsart Hi Marty! Your German was excellent 👍 and very much like the standard. The "Niederdeutsch" or "Plattdeutsch" sounds completely different. I doubt few people outside of Northern Germany or Eastern Netherlands speaks it daily. What a nice memory of your first Schmincke tin. I also remember mine. It was a 18 tube X 5ml Horadam, which I bought second hand. I saved for months for it. I still have the tin :-) Now I am considering adding my name to it ;-)

@@owingsart that’s what I would try. Got to watch the portions cause those dark blues are already grayish and very strong so might not need much to add to burnt umber.

I absolutely love their manganese violet, colbalt green pure, colbalt voilet hue, turners yellow, they are the easiest to rewet watercolors I own. Their granulating single pigments are the best bar none. When you rewet them and go to paint they are smooth and without a ton of filler. I have DS, Qor, sennelier, Rosa, W+N, but they are nothing compared to my schmincke. The granulating violets and greens in the other brands are difficult to rewet and when you paint with them it's like they are gloopy or they are so sticky that they are hard to get on the brush and then they are hard to get off the brush. They don't gradient well. I find it hard to explain why the schminckes work better and look better. But if you're getting a granulating pigment I'd always pick them if you can afford it. But I agree that getting the dot cards are always worth it. The DaVinci dot trays are the best value for your money when it comes to those. You literally get 5 different trays with nearly a quarter pan of paint per color. You have to order it from their website but it come within a week

I think your German is very good!! 👍 Schmincke paints are also one of my favourites - especially the transparent ones. Ruby Red is my favourite cool red. It’s one of 6 Schmincke paints I have in a small travel palette that I use a lot, even at home, as I can mix any colour I need from it!

I would say volcano red is one of their most exclusive colors in the world, as well as volcano yellow. But I get it, these are their higher series number colors or their more expensive ones in general and oddly enough it’s similar to Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith higher series.

Hi Jose - I suppose it has a lot to do with the expense of the pigments used. Seems to be most companies pay roughly the same for the raw pigments or have a way to manufacture them using a combination of chemicals and raw material.
