I ate scrambled eggs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner . I have this procedure done every 2-3 years and I was fed up. I called my doctor and he immediately said yes, you can have scrambled eggs. I know there are many more options in the low residue diet but I was fine with just the eggs . My prep was a breeze for the first time last year. People are dying because they won’t have this procedure done simply because the prep is so brutal, and thats a shame . I’m glad to see they are finally realizing this and working to change.

I eat whatever I want leading up to the procedure and the day before I eat scrambled eggs for breakfast, lunch , and dinner . I stop at 4 or 5pm and only do jello the rest of the night if I’m hungry . Then I do the prep at 8pm. If I’m being honest (and pardon my speech) this area of the medical field need to get their heads out of their asses . People are dying because in all these years they’ve done little or nothing to make the procedure approachable. They need to continue studies , not let them die out. Most of the info on this subject is already years old. They are failing us .

This really makes sense. I’m on a 3 year plan for colonoscopy. Ugh. A few days low residue eating followed by the full day of liquid is taxing. I used to be able to eat a light breakfast of scrambled eggs and white toast. This time my new doctor is saying liquid only. It is going to be a rough day. I don’t don’t fasting.

I am so glad that I found these videos on the Low Residue Diet! I put off having my colonoscopy because the last one I did nearly killed me. I was on the 2-day cleanse and I was really sick. I was nauseous, threw up and felt very, very weak. Now I have to do another one as my Cologuard came back positive. I am praying that it is not too late. I am confident that I will be able to complete the process this time. Thank You!

Just for the record, I ate 1 cup of regular mac and cheese at a meat and three, 1 cup of mash potatoes (no skins) with brown gravy, 1 roll with 2 packets of butter at 11:00 am the day before my colonoscopy and everything came out perfect. The food I ate is called a “low residue diet” which I learned about in this video. I went to my colonoscopy the next day and my doctor said he could see everything perfect and said I was clean as a whistle! The doctor found out that I had 2 flat polyps which he removed, hemorrhoids, and diverticulitis but no cancer. Thank the lord, I was so worried for months leading up to my colonoscopy. Cancer runs in my family and so it's good to check on this kinda stuff and not avoid it. Mind you, I DID NOT tell my doctor that I followed this diet or he probably would have rescheduled me so keep it to yourself. Having the food really helped my blood sugar from crashing and feeling nauseous.

I please update this video as I think it is significant and very helpful to a certain population!
I heartily support this but for different reasons. I have left side hemiparesis with spasticity from stroke.
My first “traditional“ prep failed. Doctor was unwilling to change the prep so I search the Internet for alternatives and found a new doctor
Got a new prep that I did two days prior to the colonoscopy, pushed fluids hard one day prior to the colonoscopy, and ate a soft/low residue diet an entire week before that first prep from the new doctor.
All these “tricks“ combined Worked like a charm. I know I’m not the only person walking around out here with paralysis or spasticity issues so I really don’t understand the dearth of information about that in relation to Colonoscopy‘s in their entirety. In the end they found two precancerous polyps so I was glad for all the hard work I did.

I am so happy to see this! My gastroenterologist has me doing the low residue diet for 3 days prior and then clear liquid starts the NIGHT before at the time I drink the prep. The low residue is very easy and you aren't starving and weak. So happy to see this video! You can find this diet online but make sure it is a reputable source. The low residue diet is short-term only. It can even be used for flare-ups of various colon problems. No seeds, nuts, popcorn, whole grains, fruit with skins..etc.

Cscope prep advice: get a Rx for zofran from your PCP. Take one zofran hour before you take the ducolax pills or even right afterwards. the key is to have zofran working when you start drinking the first half of the prep. then take the second zofran one hour before you start the second half of the prep. That will solve any nausea problems. Also my doc told me to mix the prep powder with white grapejuice or apple juice. The 2 quart or 64 oz prep is much easier that the 4 quart prep simply because you don't have allof that volume in your stomach causing nausea.

  • @ComputerGuy404

My prep was pretty easy, I stuck to low residue foods 2 days before i was eating shells and cheese mixed with shredded boneless-skinless chicken breasts and some ice cream.. The day before i took 2 ducolax tablets.. drank a gallon of water and didn't really care for broth so i stuck to popsicles and sugar-free jello.. My prep was an 8.3oz bottle of miralax mixed with 2 28 oz bottles of white cherry sugar free powerade. I drank 8oz of that stuff every 15 minutes with a green apple jolly rancher in my cheek just in case but I didn't need the jolly rancher. My prep tasted more like the power-ade than anything. 4 hours before my procedure I drank a 10 oz bottle of magnesium citrate. That stuff was gross so I slammed it and then had a jolly rancher. The doctor told me I did a good job on my prep. I was told to have a nice nap and next thing I knew I was in the recovery room. easy peazy.

I used a easy digestive diet 3 days before and the day before I have a clear liquid diet. About noon I take 4 Dulcolax laxative tablets and about 6pm I start drinking 8 oz glasses of a 64 oz container of Gatorade mixed with an 8.3 oz container of MiraLax. This usually clears me out and I've never had a complaint from my physician.

  • @iamric23
    @iamric23 Před 2 lety +9

ok, I just had my colonoscopy and my prep was a total non issue. I was prescribed polyethylene glycol 3350, in a 8.3 ounce bottle. This is mixed with 128 ounces of liquid. You have to drink 1/2 of it the day before then the 2md 1/2 on the day of the procedure. I mixed the 1st half with white grape juice and a teaspoon of sugar, and no lie it tasted like white grape juice. There was perhaps a 3% taste of the powder, but that contributed zero effect on the total taste.
The next day I used apple juice and a teaspoon of sugar just to switch it up and that too was great.
I was also prescribed 4 tiny pills to take all at one time when I began my prep which helps with the discharge.
The only thing I did differently time wise, was to start my prep 3 hours earlier so that I could give myself more time to settle down so that I could get some sleep. I also started 3 hours earlier the next day as well. It turned out to be a wise decision because of the continued discharge.
I only drank 3 quarts of this prep, and it was enough. My paper work suggested that by after drinking 3 quarts that most people are cleared out. I also did not consume a lot of food 2 days prior to this prep to help me with this event and that also helped big time.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

One of the most challenging things about standard prep - aside from overcoming the dread of having to choke down a gallon of disgusting liquid on a basically empty stomach - is spending the 5 previous days eating foods I normally can't or shouldn't eat, or going without. Going on a five-day spiritual retreat/fast would probably be healthier overall!

Two things, one Cologuard is problematic because it counts in most insurance companies as your “free” screen, people should not bear the cost of the colonoscopy indicated by a cologuard test. Second, listen to your patient, I have a slow digestive tract in general, even with a low residue diet I need a hard push at the beginning of my prep or I won’t clear. This has been proven twice. The second time happened because the doctor’s staff did not tell the doctor that I had questions about the prep and needed a call back. I’m sorry but “the office manager said” isn’t EVER going to be an adequate response to a patient’s questions.
I would venture to say that at minimum a telephone consult, better a telehealth visit prior to colonoscopy when it’s been 5 years in between should be the standard of care. Patient condition and recent research can change a lot in 5 years, personalized prep can help adherence and successful prep a lot! “One size fits all” prep is substandard care in my opinion.

I’d go to a different doctor next time! My husband wanted to be awake for it and the doctor was fine with it. They still give you stuff so you don’t feel it. That would creep me out if the doctor was that opposed. It would make me wonder why

I’m vegan. My gastroenterologist’s orders are no fiber for five days prior to the colonoscopy. No nuts, no fruits, no veggies, and no popcorn. THIS HAS LITERALLY BEEN MY DIET FOR THE PAST TWENTY-FIVE YEARS. I had to postpone the first attempt to have this procedure, as I just could not do it. Tomorrow I “should” start altering my diet. I think I’ll just cancel altogether.

I’m Vegan, and gluten free. I was told I can eat potatoes peeled and cooked, carrots peeled and cooked, smooth peanut butter, white rice, peeled fruit with no seeds. Maybe I won’t starve. I’m already 20 pounds underweight. This is my first colonoscopy at age 73 due to a positive Cologuard test, no symptoms.

I would recomend to try these foods for a couple of days before a colonoscopy for vegans :) plain white pasta, white rice, well cooked skinless potato, polenta, vegetable broth. And drinks of course: water, tea, coffee, fruits juices without pulp. Greetings

Tofu, bread, bananas, honeydew and cantaloupe, potatoes, pasta, pancakes, agar instead of jello. All vegan and all low fiber/low residue. I'm sure there's more but it's been a while since I was fully plant based. You could also ask if you can do something like pea protein shakes, because those are low fiber. The reason for no peas is because of the skin.

Yes, they likely did it properly. My husband had one where he wasn’t under anesthesia/ asleep and watched it all on a screen. He never felt a thing either.

I’m due to have a colonoscopy dec 27 th. They made my appointment for 8:30 am. Does this mean I’m preparing two days ahead? I’m a diabetic so going 24 hours won’t be good nor 48 hours.

Mine is on the 8th, almost 2 days from now, and my appointment is at 7 in the morning. I was instructed to start drinking my prep at noon on the 7th and then finish at 8pm the same night. Then at 8pm I am supposed to take two laxative pills. Your prep shouldn't be longer than 24 hours mine is going to be maybe around 10 hours then I can hopefully get some sleep so it shouldn't be so bad. I say if ours were in the afternoon it would be much worse. Patients whose colonoscopies are scheduled in the afternoon have to split their prep and have to prep for almost 24 hours.

I hope all goes well with your procedure; wishing you all the best !

@@jewelsbarbie good luck with your procedure!! My prep starts in almost 4 hours and I'm so nervous. I have to take 4L of prep in a span of 8 hours and then have two strong laxative pills at 8pm. I just hope that it's enough to get me fully clean.

I am very afraid of having pain like you experienced. I have mine tomorrow, and I am not feeling good about it. Are you still experiencing problems from your colonoscopy? Did they check to make sure you didn’t have a perforated bowel? I hope things are better for you now. I’m so sorry you had to go through this.

I've been watching a few of these videos now and I really hate all of them...!!! I was kind of hoping for some kind of play acting with somebody actually going through the procedures and discussing what's happening and what the problems are and so on, but instead you get this doctor, here on this video, just doing nothing but technobabble for the entire thing !!! and it's just turning me off to the whole thing, Im thinking of just waiting another 5 years or something, until maybe the science of colonoscopies are more refined...!

I thought there might be a different purpose, too. But don't discount what this doctor is doing here. He is making a case for other doctors to consider how to handle this in future, which in turn benefits all of us patients. That's important in my book.
