    I have four questions, 1- For some preop, they say that you can't consume anything containing Red or Purple coloring. Wouldn't that mean Cranberry juice is out of the question? 2- I've heard other say that Gummi Bears are okay as they are clear, so long as you don't eat the red ones. Would you agree? 3- As a Dietitian, how do you feel about all of the episodic "Chef" Television shows and the meals that they promote? What would you change if you could?

    • @KimRoseDietitian
      @KimRoseDietitian  Před 5 lety

      Hi! Great questions
      1. Yes you are correct. Cranberry juice is out of the question, however after the it may be allowed depending on the circumstance. I’ve seen physicians limit red and purple beverages for some but not all patients.
      2. Yes gummy bears can be a part of this diet.
      3 and 4. I have no feelings about the Chef TV shows. I believe in temperance in all things. All foods can fit into a healthy diet and modifications may be made depending on disease state.
      5. Enjoy your day.

      I just watched a video by a gastro-enterologist who explained that the red and purple dyes in certain foods can leave residues or tints on your colon walks which can appear similar to blood color. (Remember KoolAid powders dying our tongues and fingers?) Thus, you can have clear candies and drinks which are yellow, green, blue… just stay away from the red and purple dyes so they won’t see any colors that can resemble the color of blood.

    • @valerief1231
      @valerief1231 Před 3 lety +5

      I doubt the original poster of this comment but I though I’d answer in case someone else had this question. So “clear” is really not the operative word for this diet, “thin” would be more appropriate. A Thin or clear liquid diet is any liquids not thickened by milk, corn starch, flour, etc. the same consistency as water. So gelatin for example melts to a thin water like consistency, as well as popsicles, snow cones, slurpee’s etc. It doesn’t have to be see thru, hope this helps.
      A full liquid would be Milk, cream, puréed soups, smoothies, cream of wheat that is thinned down etc.

    • @mbaca89
      @mbaca89 Před 3 lety +6

      These recommendations are definitely for someone other then pre-op for gastric sleeve. Your goal during your 2 week liquid phase is to shrink your liver so you definitely want to make sure to follow your surgeons orders and not have anything with sugar. On my pre-op diet this included sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, clear protein drinks (Protein2o in grape and mango are amazing btw) broth, Powerade Zero, Gatorade Zero and Crystal Light. Twice a day I was able to have Protein Shakes of my choice as long as they were less then 3 grams of sugar and low carb so Premier Protein and Pure Protein were good choices and was also able to do homemade protein shakes with only Blueberries, strawberries or blackberries and I would add Genepro to these. During this phase I lost 19lbs and my surgery went smooth and was successful. I truly believe by following my surgeons diet exactly I eliminated post op complications. I hope this helped answer your questions, sorry it was so long.
