I don’t like Malaysia because of the Muslim influence. From doing loud chants over loud speakers at 6 am to the food restrictions, high alcohol taxes and women not being treated equally.

Another thing I didn’t like women weren’t considered equals in the workforce from housekeepers to wait staff were all men. I think the only jobs I saw women doing was cooking and laundry.

Well I am in Sagada at the moment having arrived in Davao and travelled over to Dipolog, ferry to Dumagette, then to Oslob swimming with Whale Sharks then all the way up to Banting Island, back to Cebu and ferry to Manila. Bus to Subic to revisit old grounds of 14 years ago. How it has all changed, few foreigners and domain of the rising middle class Philipino families. Glad to get out of that place and up to Baguio by far the best place so far. The prices in the Philippines have risen to a point it is not any cheaper than to tour Australia. Food choices are poor in general and especially bad outside the major cities. Think this will be my last trip to the Philippines and look at Vietnam for future journeys.

The most miserable aspect of travelling the Philippines is the traffic congestion choking all the roads and cities, and it is the same everywhere no matter what place you visit. Even Sagada the roads are too narrow for the large busses and trucks. They are doing a lot of work to improve the roads but when and if they finish they will still be inadequate.

I guess if you are not drinking and chasing girls, then $1k a month is possible. I retired early and came to Philippines at age 39. Back then my budget was $1500 and I could party everyday with that amount. But today that would be like $4k with inflation. At 32 and no pension, he probably won't be in the Philippines very long. Lots of younger guys have had to go back for work because of inflation.

I just saw Aaron on every Man has a story.. I guess Aaron is making the rounds and I love listening to him.. I have already subscribed to his channel and I'm looking forward to watching his adventures..thanks Mike but I really miss the rental videos..😮😊..ps.. I swore to myself I would never have a CZcams channel because I am too thin skinned and I like my privacy too much.. I think I'm changing my mind because I am going to experiment with a channel that just does rental videos and food costs and not monetize it.. I will do the channel for people like me that has questions in their minds that no one is answering.. I will also have a nice used air conditioned Honda Civic hatchback or Toyota Corolla hatchback.. people thinking about moving to the Philippines or anywhere else are always interested in where they can stay for a reasonable price and are also interested in the price of food in the restaurants and the markets and the prices everything else that has to do with everyday living.. I think I'm going to do a CZcams channel and ask the questions and show the things that I always want other people to ask and show.. I am definitely going up into the mountains of sibulan and Valencia show everyone what is for rent and sale and what is up there and how far it is from everything else.. I will spend many nights and carry my huge thermometer with me and show how cool or how not cool it is day and night... it is cooler in the mountains of sibulan than it is in Valencia and lots of people do not know this.. and the best thing is that you are 20 or 30 minutes from a beautiful Beach with white sand and crystal clear blue water.. just a thought from my pea brain for today😮😮

USD 1000 pcm is nowhere enough to live a decent life in the Philippines. Having said that, if you are a young man and prepared to rough it, go ahead and enjoy the experience. I left the UK when I was 25 and spent 6+ years travelling around the world and then established a successful business in HK where I met my wife. I retired at 52, six years ago. I now live in the Philippines where my family is very comfortable. We have property, no mortgages or loans as well as a business and a decent income. My point, much belaboured as it is, is that you don't have to join the rat-race, school, college, job, etc., to enjoy your life. I settled at 31, worked for 20 years, and then gave it all up in order to enjoy my life. I still take a month off every now and then to go travelling on my own - hiking usually - to places I have not visited before.

That allowed us to buy property, but the lump-sum remains untouched in a relatively high interest account. "Most young people' should get off their butts and put in the hours to give themselves sufficient cash/savings/income if they wish to survive here.

With more and more people being digital nomads, these young guys are what we oldies will be up against in about a decade. Right now young woman may still go for older men but with many women getting higher education in the Philippines too, that attitude might change in a relatively short timespan. They may consider these younger guys a better investment in their future as they do not die on them after 10 or 15 years of marriage.
