Stunning. That warbling sound (excuse me but I don't know what to properly call it) is exquisite. It penetrated deep into my solar plexus. Was that a poem by Hafiz? He is one of my favorites. I'm thinking the reference to the eye is likely to the Third Eye, though I don't understand the significance of covering it here. I've been listening to another Persian singer lately who has also captivated me - Moshen Namjoo. It's quite different in ways and similar in others. Thanks so much for offering this artist Hap. I'll be looking into more of this mesmerizing singer...very meditative.

Hafez mostly doesn't do the third eye thing or like that, there are some poems who talk mystical like Rumi, but Hafez does not do it as much as Rumi, Mohsen Namjoo has done some nice art, but he is accused of sexual assault and it seems legit

The lyric is about love and not veil, wearing or hijab, in literal meaning. Hafez, the poet, compares himself to a careful bird who tries not to be captivated by love but love hunts him very easily and quickly. Old Persian poetry is not very literal and therefore kind of hard to understand even for us Iranians, due to both gradual language changes and sheer poetical features. This poem dates back hundreds of years. I hope I helped and thank you for sharing it.

My friend, thank you for your "first reaction" to Mohammad Reza Shajarian. There is a section in the Library of Congress named " a Thousand Years Persian Book". All this literature is spiritual in nature and in surrealist form. Symbolism is dominant in the expression of ideas. So, they cannot always be interpreted literally. The talk of "hejab" in these poems has absolutely nothing to do with the dress code used in some Islamic, Christian, or Jewish societies. It depicts the curtain or in better words veil that keeps us blind; therefore, separate or away from the Divine. Some of the Persian literature has been interpreted (they can not be translated) to English, German, French, and quite a few other languages. The most famous are Saadi, Hafiz, and Rumi. This literature has the ability to change your life for GOOD!!! Thanks again. I am going to see your other "first reacts".

The lyrics were written by Hafez, one of the greatest Persian poets, who lived 600-700 years ago. To illustrate the depth and complexity of his lyrics, it's enough that as a native Persian speaker, I was only able to fully understand the meaning of some phrases after looking at English translations and most Persians are the same.
