What is this case about?
www.macrumors.com/2018/04/13/apple-lawsuit-repair-shop-norway/
I am being questioned by Henrik Huseby's attorney.
Dude! What happens in Norway, stays in Norway!
Tldr
Norway repair shop got slapped with a fat lawsuit from apple for using "counterfeit parts"
Court sided with the repair shop cause Norwegian law says nothing about this being an issue
that explains the accents ^.^
wow ... really Apple? How rotten. ✋🏿
This is basically Louis learning to use fewer words to get his point across.
Soon enough no-one will ever even be capable of fighting him. Both verbally and physically. He'll be a god amongst us mere mortals
That's a skill he really needs to learn as his gibberish is often painful to listen to. He's talking like he was in one of those TV ad shows -- "but wait, there's STILL MORE!"
Nailed it. Love that he’s doing this, though.
Why say lot word when few word do trick?
I thought it was just a New York thing. Aussie here and folks from NY do seem to talk faster.
This guy roast apple in his workshop, roast apple on his CZcams channel. And how he is roasting apple in court... What a legend

mhmm I wonder what Roasted Apples actually taste like, Apple pie maybe?
Ahhahaha cracked me up
Finally we found something that Louis cannot do: Talking slowly.
Honestly, the judge at the start of the vid was more incomprehensible than Louse, maybe it's just the audio quality issue but he is well articulated on his speech it should be easy to understand
@@yunan9610 This video was recorded on Louis' side, so we're seeing a much better quality from his video than the court, and vice-versa.
@Optimus27 Nordic countries have pretty decent skill level in English in general even if the accent can sometimes be hard to understand, we're talking about trans-atlantic vid call here so it's not odd that quality might be a bit off.
@@SampoPaalanen Yup.

As a New Yorker i can feel the pain Louis feels at being told to talk slower

😂
its not easy to try to speak differently
The judge from behind when he again started speaking swiftly , peeked out in the only way describable " what the Faaack"
That's how you spot a Genuine Rossmann to a Counterfeit Rossmann

It would be great. First show how Apple would diagnose it and charge. Then he goes: Now we know this Macbook has no backlight. Let's find out why this little Macbook refuses to turn on the backlight. First we disconnect the battery from the Macbook so we can see how much voltage out Macbook motherboard is pulling, as the battery can be inconsistent. Macbook. Macbook? Macbook.

For someone who for whatever reason has a rapid speaking pattern, it's really hard to speak more slowly. You have to constantly remind yourself to speak slowly, else you'll just slide back into the fast speech.
Hes from New York. Give him a break lol
Lmao. Good ole Louis
Court:Can you talk slower?
Louis: Ok I’ll talk faster
LOL
he's also a bit jargon-y, wordy, and technical, which is part of why he talks fast to get all of that out, but the case might not need quite that level of detail
@@dirtydoge756 When you talk about something that you know a great deal about it is natural to use terms common in that subject
He has a different accent, which makes talking slower more important. He should have given an analogy that they could relate to, like a car, in addition to describing what parts of the screens might not be original.
@@artlessknave It's actually quite difficult to "Dumb down" your speech when you know a lot about a particular topic. For me (I work in IT), terms that are completely common to me and my colleagues, are really unknown to the general end user (Citrix, VPN for example, most IT people known it. but an end user has no clue)
Louis: "If we were an apple authorized store we would not be able to swap out individual parts, only the whole device itself"
Lawyer: "please summarise"
Louis: "Apple poo"
That’s where it took him a little long to catch the idea that changing just a certain piece is more cost efficient and consumer friendly/ecological than swapping altogether. That’s not a thing present in the conscience of aged civil servants in overly rich and saturated countries .
@@kulturfreund6631 bro are u stupid? Its not like we Norwegians are brats lol.
@@kulturfreund6631 Swapping altogether is just the Apple's way of saying, we dont do that shit! we sell, and charge shitloads for it, repairing is not their bussiness
Can someone explain this to me, I don't quite understand. So if you are an apple authorized repair you can't replace just a part you have to replace the whole thing? I didn't think they replaced the whole device, I just thought they charged an excessive amount to do each part.
@@kenbobcorn I think what he means is replace parts such as capacitor/transistors/etc on a board that would fix the device which apple doesn't do and just sell you a new board instead. A capacitor, for example, is extremely cheaper than the board itself

@@akbarsdesign You have to remember they are hearing him through skype. It will be a poor signal and low quality.

@@sebastiansantanaflores3601 maybe you know it better than them
Court: "Can you speak slower please"
Rossmann: *Stares in New Yorker*
I think the reason for them wanting slower speaking is actually due to the court clerk(?), who’s trying to write everything down for court - as Louis speaks, word by word
As someone who tends to speak very fast, I really, REALLY feel for Louis here.
People in Scandinavian countries do study English, but it tends to be more of a British English, the New York cadence tends to be more accelerated it's more difficult to understand if someone is translating in their heads as they would if they learned English later in life.
Court: slow down
Louis: slows down
Louis one minute later: Speeds Up
Court: am I a joke to you??
He is passionate about the subject :D
If he slows down, he will not be able to communicate effectively as he will become too conscious about controlling speed of speech.
He's really passionate lol. But Norwegians aren't native speakers and middle aged ordinary people don't understand a single word of computing. Maybe that's why they couldn't follow easily
He's from NY, of course he speaks quickly... :)
(and yes, I'm from NY and speak not only quickly but also fairly loudly... :)

@@sanjayshah5338 I call Shinnanegans on that statement. Louis just exhibits the same problem most experts in a field have trying to explain the basics of his/her industry in terms that is still miles above what the recipient can comprehend.
It takes a separate set of skills to explain situations in a way thats broken down for others without coming off as arrogant or insulting and still be accurate. Its not a common skill in the industry.
"Apple Lost Lawsuit Against Independent iPhone Repair Shop in Norway Over Unauthorized Parts" - excellent.

@5tormwolf92 Sorry, what?
As a norwegian, those judges should 100% have hired in a translator. both linguistical and technical. they don't know what you're saying most of the time.
@dothemathright 1111 New York english isn't that far away from the normal english... You should try listening to two Irish having a conversation... I was used to most English accents when I moved to Ireland, but it took me 2 years to be able to understand what the hell are they talking about 😂
@@Nitrogang ohh I had to deal with them, it is difficult indeed
100% Agree, they would need someone to explain this to them both in Norwegian and in laymansterms, and out of respect and ease they should have provided a translator
@dothemathright 1111 Hahah, I like how you slide in the "New Yorker to English translator" part.
@@PastLight Irish people seems to speak the best English, most of them are talking Queen's English if they are talking to someone not an Irishman.

Good thing Apple doesn't sell vehicles
"I have a flat tire"
Apple: The entire vehicle needs to be replaced"
The automotive industry is already trying to pull this kind of stuff to some extent. For example, my dad's brand new BMW that he bought a couple of years ago no longer comes with a spare wheel. Instead the tires that are fitted are so-called run-flat tires that have strengthened side walls which allow you to drive short distances on a punctured tire to a cervice deopt and replace the tire. If there's no service depot in range then you're expected to use BMW's roadside assistance service to request a tow truck that will tow you to the nearest depot if they can't temporarily fix your tire on the spot. And of course, since you don't have a spare wheel you'll be more or less forced to buy new run-flat tires that are significantly more expensive than a normal tire.
Similarly some agricultural equipment manufacturers have been caught incorporating electronics into specific parts of their agricultural machinery seemingly for no other reason than to prevent owners from either self-repairing their machines or giving the job to third-party repair centers. They basically do the same thing as Apple, where if a component is swapped and it isn't recognized as the original component by the onboard computer then the machine will just not run, even if the component is completely functional and correctly installed. You need to program the new component into the system using proprietary software that's most commonly only available in official or certified repair shops.
"there is a problem with the engine"
Apple: "the engine has been liquid damaged buy the petrol"
That’s not true. They would just tell you to replace the whole wheel, engine, and drive train. At the cost of around 90% of a new one and while doings the work if they screw something up they will give it back in pieces and tell you to buy a new one because yours is to messed up to fix.

Judge: Explain like I'm 5
Louis: Gets even more technical
To be fair that's why in these types of cases you need judges and lawyers that are at least somewhat familiar with how electronics work and what type of components they are made up of. Even a layman's understanding, kinda like what you'd get from building your own PC would be useful and make everything run a lot smoother. While i'm sure that the judges and lawyers in this case are all very competent when it comes to legal practice, i get the feeling that some of them don't really know much about electronics and that a lot of what Louis is saying sounds like a bunch of jumbled techo-babble and jargon to them.
If they are working this case they are responsible to educate themselves. Very bad form

The Apple attorney could be trying to establish that Louis’ testament is based on his personal bias rather than fact. Biased testimony has less, or no weight than impartial witness information to the court. Louis’ response is what the Apple attorney wanted. The Norwegian language is very direct so stating something like that in Norwegian wouldnt mean anything more than "Thank you for your time. You are now free to leave" type thing. Instead, directly translated, as in she kept Norwegian grammar and just translated the words. Gave it a threatening sounding theme. LoL
Legally wise I am not surprised he won the case. Pirate laws are only in regards to copied products. Parts cant have that unless they use the same logo or something and is marketed as Apple parts. What is special in Norwegian law is that once you buy a product you are free to do whatever you want with it. Including swapping out parts (will void warranty however, which is 5 years for products meant to last more than 3, the general consensus decides what should last more than 3 years, not the producer of the product) or even hack the OS/Software (ref the "DVD Jon" case).
You dont need to be "authorized by a company" anything as long as you are dealing with privately owned products other people have bought. The buyer cant even sign away hes rights when buying it ether (consumer laws/Forbrukerkjøps Loven). The exception to such is if other companies buy products. Then its a little different, but generally one cant go below the minimum "rights" of what the laws stats (Buying law/Kjøps Loven).

Similarly, in line with my OP. One of the screens did NOT have an Apple logo and was considered to be outside the scoop of the case.
-
So I would still say there wouldnt be an issue importing screens that were similar and fit, but without the logo or even importing screens with logos IF they were the real deal and that could be documented via traceable recites or something.
-
However in the case of screen being taken off originals and resold as parts. One would get into the issue of proving its not a fake. ofc. yes. skype. that explains the crappy quality. im guessing both parties are looking at some good ads while talking too.
Court technology is absolute ass
While skype is laughed at for a majority of public users at this point, its name is still fairly prevalent in enterprise. Seeing as it's still being used fairly commonly in business environments today, I would imagine that it's more of a computer and connection issue on the court's side rather than Skype itself. Edit: Knowing that not everyone speaks Norwegian, I'll do some translations for those wondering what was said.
At 10:59 someone in the background is heard saying "Du kan ringe han opp på nytt", which translates to "You can call him up again/You can restart the call", which ended up happening.
At 14:37 The gal behind the counter says "Har du noen fler spørsmål?" which means "Do you have any more questions?". The guy responds "Nei, du kan overlate to... flere..." It gets a tad hard to make out what he said, but I assume he said "Nei, du kan overlate til han så flere...", this translates to "No, you can hand over... so more"... Going to do some high tech assumptions here, "You can hand over the questions to X so more questions can be asked". She abrupts him a bit saying "vær så god" which means "Go ahead", this is directed to the next guy asking questions.
Now this is where translation gets really fun, because I'm half deaf... If there are any Norwegians out there, please do correct me.
At 16:10
Guy: "Til retten/toretten? tar det ekstra utlaget," (Help!) Translation: "To the court, we change to..."
Guy: "F***U2" (?????) Probably a document.
Guy: "Og så side 340, der følger det av" Translation: "And on page 340, where it says"
Guy: "situr i faturavfaget" (I couldn't make this out at all, NO idea what was said.)
She interjects a bit, but I can't for the life of me make out any words, nor his response...
But at 16:28 I can make out what she said.
She: "Ja jeg finner a... Side 342?" Translation: "Yeah, I find... Page 342?"
Guy: "340."
She: "Det er ikke lagt inn elektronisk" Translation: "The page number isn't put in electronically."
Guy: "Ehh, jo." Translation: "Yeah it is."
She: "Aha, når ble det gjort?" Translation: "When was that done?"
Guy: "Nei nei, unskyld, jeg, det er det ikke, nei, helt riktig. Det er helt riktig." Translation: "No, sorry, I was wrong, it wasn't. You're correct."
She: "342?"
Guy: "Ja, 340." (What a mess...) Translation: "Yeah, page 340."
The interruptions here make it hard for me to make out anything, again... What's new?
At 16:43
She: "Kan vi få en avgang?" ?? I am unsure about this one but I think it translates to: "Can we get this clarified?"
Guy: "Hmm?" Translation: Basically, didn't hear, you, repeat.
She: "Kan vi be om å få en avgang?" Translation: "Can we get this clarified?"
Guy: "Ja..." Translation: "Yes."
The rest is a mess again.
At 16:49
She: "Ja men det kommer veldig ofte - ..." Can't make out the rest, but translation: "Yeah, this seems to happen very often - ..."
At 16:55
Guy: "Emm, og her er det da skjermbilder, emm" He does the translation for me a bit here, thanks.
Guy: "Emm, hvor det da, er skjermbilder tatt av, av, denne side 15 Mai, hvor man ser skjermbilder fra en video som denne vitnet har lagt ut." ... It's a bit messy here, but Translation: "Here we can see some screenshots taken from the 15th of May, of a couple of videos make by Louis."
Guy: "Og man da ser tittlene... Hvor man ser hva som står, emm, ja for att retten skjønner hva på en måte, hva disse bokstavene fra Apple betyr, men emm, jeg vil si de, for å spørre vitnet, emm"
I think the swearing in the video titles put him off a bit from saying them...
Translation: "And here you can see the titles, where it says... So that the court may understand what these symbols means... I want to say them to ask the witness..."
Someone else starts interjecting, I'll just call gim guy2.
Guy2: "Du kan vise det til ham, fordi han ser oss" Translation: "You can show them to the witness, he can see us."
Another mess ensues and I can't make it out.
At: 17:35
She: "Ser han oss på fullscreen, eller ser han oss bare på..." Translation: "Can he see us on the fullscreen, or does he see us on..."... I have no clue what she meant, I can only assume the camera in the court is on top of a TV.
To sum opp what happened here, they wanted to turn to page 342 to look at some evidence (I think, don't know the correct word), but there was some confusion about which page, due to the page either not being correct electronically, or not being correct at all.
