We rescued one as a puppy during Hurricane Katrina. She lived 14 years, in great health, and on many outdoor adventures, until her last 6 months. Best family friendly dog ever. Ranks right up there with the Golden. Yes, they do shed a lot too. We had to vacuum the house twice a day to keep the hair-bunnies down too. Still, if I could find another, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
