From a replay of the old Car&Track show on SpeedVision the 2nd Twin 125 Qualifying race held on Fabruary 15th 1973 at the Daytona International Motor Speedway.
@@MrChristopherHaas I knew Jim Vandiver personally, and he was just a normal nice guy. I was in the car wholesale business and at the time rented from Stud Murray/Broadway Motors who backed Jimmy Means and go to meet Smokey too. Jim came by Studs a lot and I'd see him @ the old auto auction in Charlotte which is no more. Another good old days time.
I knew Jim and will never forget this episode: Vandiver is known for an unusual exit to the 1973 Southern 500 in Darlington, South Carolina. He was due to be arrested for not showing up to divorce court for a child custody hearing, and had to figure out a way to avoid going to jail. His engine began running worse and worse so he waved goodbye to his pit crew and intentionally spun out his Dodge. To avoid the authorities seizing him on the track in front of the spectators, he ran across the track to escape and hitchhiked a ride to Charlotte, North Carolina in order to get home. The pushing was old hat back then. Petty would blast whoever was in front of him past whoever the leader was, or he’d blast somebody forward to get away from the pack. The pushing circa 2010-11 was just an extension of that.

What we need to do is contact Fox Sports 1 who purchased all the media from Speedvision and see how/if we can purchase a copy then set up a Go Fund Me Page to pay for it.
