Henry Cejudo actually won a gold medal in wrestling and used that skillset to win 2 world titles, one of which was over the arguable MMA goat, Demetrious Johnson.
Jon Jones is one of the most talented wrestlers to ever be in the cage despite not being an olympian, but what does it say when Bones can ragdoll even Daniel Cormier?
Khabib Nurmagomedov used his dominant cage wrestling to terrorize the lightweight division, smesh all of his opposition, and become the greatest lightweight ever.

There is a reason for everything and the reason why henry didnt look the best the last two fights(keep in mind henry is 37 years old rn

fighters who are 35 + age that have fought for the title in 30+ attemps have been succesfull only 2 times(from 125 to 170 pounds) - age matters the most esspecialy in smaller weight classes beacuse they are fast and the first things that go with age are speed ,lastly power...(Guys like dc who are in heavyweight, heavyweight prime lasts a lot longer, there are facts to back it up,figthers at older weight clasess can still be succesfull (170 gilbert burns age 36 or maybe even 37,wonderboy 39 still top ten,at 185 jarred cannonier,205 ,jan blahowich still top 10 and is 39+,alex peirera 36 and champion, heavyweights derrick lewis 38+,jon jones 36 champion and so on....

in his last fight against merab he was winning in both striking and wrestling in round one before he gassed

when he was in his prime he was preassured by moraes and DJ too(who are phenomenal figters) but he was in his prime(so he didnt get tired) ,as for the sterling fight it was mostly out of boxing range so he had more energy,but even then after round one he was breathing heavy a problem he didnt have before
Merab is a guy who outcardios everyone,even as a wrestler he cant keep people down
Age matters
@@bigbig54 good points but Heavyweight prime does not last longer, hell, it is even shorter as the guys who are younger will have a speed advantage and in the HW division almost everyone has the kind of power to "knock someone out", it is not like in smaller divisions where the power can vary a lot based on some certain factors like being striking dominant or having the build for it (long reach, hard muscle tendons)
In HW all it takes is one good punch by any guy to anyone to knock out the guy
So speed matters a lot more in HW division as all of them got that power {ppl like Francis still got more power than others but the fact remains, just now shown by AJ in their fight}
Older guys have it rougher in bigger division
@@somya426 well if u look at the stats it does,you get. To see guys who are championons when the are 35 or above
I am not saying the speed doesnt matter , it does just less than lighter weigt classes(you wouldnt have guys like glover,dc and others winning belts)
@@bigbig54 well it's because all the "older" are very heavy hitters and are grappling dominant
It's just as simple as that, your speed doesn't matter when you are on the ground in a RNC
So speed matters more to heavier guys because the next guy hits just as good in most cases, only way you can have an edge is by being faster
All the older guys you think of winning belts are either
1) one of the goats (so they are just better, I mean otherwise they wouldn't be a goat)
2) heavy wrestling/grappling dominant
Which essentially eliminates the speed disadvantage
Whereas if you do not look at the good side of things heavier fighters who lose their speed are not even in the competition anymore and get side tracked, same thing happens to so many heavier guys {and being a heavy guy, there is only so much room for speed, so even a 10% decrease is detrimental whereas lighter guys can be way way faster than the rest of the guys in their division, for example jose aldo before connor was FW's fastest and we can say same for Ilia} so for sure speed is more required to stay at the top in heavier division as everyone is just fighting within that 10% range and once you're out of it you're toast

Khabib isn’t in this convo he’s more of a well rounded grappler his wrestling is good but nothing elite it’s just good enough to also set up his judo and other techniques. His wrestling takedown accuracy and defence isnt anything special it’s when Khabib mixes his wrestling with his judo and weight placement that gets everyone.
Khabib is easily the best grappler in the light weight division history the way he throws his opponent around like ragdoll is pure art. even islam who is not as good at wrestling still easily beat the best submission artist in the ufc. And if you still don't believe me watch his sambo matches he beat people twice his size and twice his weight and they were not just amateurs. He beat world champions.
