Been on a Western kick the last few months and I finally saw the original The Magnificent Seven on Saturday. Re-watched it last night and I plan to again tomorrow with the commentary track featuring James Coburn and Eli Wallach. Already seen Return of the Seven with Yul Brynner and Guns of the Magnificent Seven with George Kennedy as Chris Adams instead of Yul. Gotta watch Ride of the Magnificent Seven with Lee Van Cleef as Chris and then the TV show with Michael Beihn as Chris
Elmer Bernstein put his foot DEEP in this. When I saw it at the theater it was the most incredible tune I ever heard in my life. I'm a motown/Philadelphia international guy... the closest thing I ever liked close to it was the Williams Tell ovature (Lone Ranger theme. ) It actually gives my goosebumps. I actually hate listening to it now ONLY BECAUSE I CAN'T TURN IT OFF. I just can't turn it off. It may not be the greatest western but damn it NOTHING CAN COME CLOSE TO THAT THEME. WOw
