      You are misinterpreting Magnezone's Pokedex entry: what it actually is trying to say is that scientists tried to make Magneton evolve into a Magnezone using laboratory means but failed, meaning that they are aware Magnezone exists but have not pinpointed the reason why. I know it's an awkward word syntax in that entry, but it would be consistent with other entries of earlier Pokedex enties

  • @PikachuX2073
    @PikachuX2073 Před 2 lety +18

    I personally think that the second prototype pre evolution of Giraffarig is definitely worth bringing back as a regional variant.
    As for the concept of a fourth evolution stage for Pokemon, I really want it to be kept in a small roster so that they stand out more and feel super rare, especially in how you receive the really powerful ones!
    I know that Mega Evolution kinda does that, but the way their portrayed makes them feel like alternate forms opposed to an cold actual evolution.
    In any case, I just want Gorochu to be achieved.
    Just make it something you have to really work for.
    Like a really high level with a very specific move or something.

    There doesn't appear to have been a second "Box Legendary" for the GS Beta. Ho-oh is featured on the title screen of both games' betas.
    But The Unown being next to that other Legendary actually makes me think about the 3rd Movie. Possibly a beta Entei? Or the earliest version of Arceus?

    • @ZombieBarioth
      @ZombieBarioth Před 2 lety +7

      Ho-oh being used for both betas was probably a due last minute changes, if they didn't habe sprites for lugia its that or showcase a defunct Pokemon.
      They designed a Shishi to go along with Ho-oh being a fenguang, so it clearly was meant to be the box legendary and probably the original star of Spell of the Unknown at some point.
      Funny thing is that means they were dead set on a lion dog being Mollie's protector the entire time, so lugia's creation ultimately influenced not just one but two movies along with Entei's design.

    • @silversonic1
      @silversonic1 Před 2 lety +4

      @RobbEJay Lugia was created for the movie and only programmed in once the Pokemon's popularity was apparent. There are some really good videos on the matter. The Space World 97 demos predate the 1999 release of the movie and games by about 2 years.
      Keep in mind that they only had one key Legendary Pokemon in Kanto, Mewtwo. Also around this point the anime had just revealed Ho-oh for the first time, teasing the future of the franchise in the first episode. Either way, Box Legendaries weren't a thing in '97. What they were thinking back then is unknown to most, and we're still in the dark.
      Could the Pokemon be a Mythical? If Entei's origin in the movie was meant for this Pokemon, I would believe that's the original intention. However, I certainly believe more work needs to be done so we can learn for sure.

    • @DeathByKappa
      @DeathByKappa Před 2 lety +4

      I personally would think the dogs were made as a result of scrapping the original silvery dog legendary. There could have even been plans to bring the silvery dog back in by catching the 3 legendary dogs kind of like an earlier version of the swords of justice. I get what you're saying about Ho-Oh especially as they made a point of telling the anime to add it in so early long before fans would have known what it was but I personally think the title screens was just a beta build thing and was always intended to be changed.

    • @silversonic1
      @silversonic1 Před 2 lety +8

      @@DeathByKappa Quite true. But I feel it's worth noting that with the recent revelation that the early anime was guided by a published PokeDex book, the placement of Unown between Ho-oh and the other Pokemon feels deliberate. If it and Ho-oh were intended to be interchangeable between versions, than they would group them together in a similar way to fossils, the Legendary Birds and Legendary Beasts. Instead, I feel it likely the silver Legendary was unlocked by finding all 26(at the time) Unown. Collecting the Unown always seemed anticlimactic. I honestly believe it was meant to be encountered after catching all 26, regardless of version.

      We already have the beta designs for the legendary dogs, and beta Arceus back in gen 2 is extremely farfetched.

    The thing about the Gen 2 games that I think doesn't get mentioned too often and can explain why there are A) numerous cut Pokemon, and B) Less new Pokemon in general is the issue with memory. Around the time of Mr. Iwata's passing it became public knowledge that the gen 2 games were saved because he was able to compress the game data to clear the maximum allowed limit. It would make sense that this is why a lot of content was cut, in order to help Iwata as much as possible to meet the limit.

      I imagine it like this. A normal type Giraffe pokemon egg was actually a pair of twins. One was more developed and absorbed the dying sibling trying its very best to survive, it got to see one glimpse of sun before tragically dying. Its soul, still conjoined with the other sibling desperately clung to life and emerged as a ghost type pokemon. It the goes on to possess a baby unknown Giraffe pokemon, but cannot completely do so with the other half of its soul so it mutates.
      The evolved form is a final culmination of the possession. Much like a parasect the host body has died out. It's eyes are milky white and the remnant of the the underdeveloped twin looks like a popped balloon on the tail. Its jaw is dislodged and you can see the ghostly spirit of the developed twin in agony where the tongue uses to be.

    if we were to go by real-world biology, the "stronger" Magikarp would've probably just been a Relicanth or a similar ancestor. Relicanth have existed for 100 million years (100 myr), so it is likely that a few individuals eventually migrated out of deeper waters causing them to adapt to new niches and evolve into many of the fish Pokemon we know today, including our boy Magikarp.
    Hope this was helpful.

    • @susear5939
      @susear5939 Před 2 lety

      Modern Magikarp could be a result of fish farming. We know from real life that farming fish does change the fish quite a lot. Salmon for example get some of the bright pink colour as a result of the farming methods. Natural salmon are greyish in colour. We know Magikarp is eating widely in the Pokemon world. It could be a case of these farm Magikarp escaping into the wild and breeding exponentially.

    • @samuelsmith2247
      @samuelsmith2247 Před 2 lety

      @@susear5939 good observation, Magikarp could definitely be farmed for consumption. However, the pigmentation of salmon isn't due to an evolutionary process, it has to do with feeding habits. If the Magikarp are already quite a brilliant orange in the wild, farmed Magikarp would likely be even more brilliant or would change their colour entirely (perhaps a theory on shiny variants?) due to whatever carotenoid their food source consists of.

    Wow, this video was fascinating!
    The reason why so many pokemon were cut from Gen 2 is very simple, the game could only hold up to 255 different Pokemon, and it already was using 253 out of 255 slots since it counted Eggs and missigno as their own entry. It literally only had space for 2 more entries, or maybe 3 if you removed missigno.
    So GF decided to cut evolutions (Piloswine's evo) or leave Pokes without evolutions (Yanma, Shuckle, etc) so they could fit in more new Pokemon.
    Hopefully we see more of those cut concepts someday, like what happened with Generation 4!
