The lineup was exactly the same from the moment John Deacon joined on March 1, 1971 to the day Freddie Mercury died on November 24, 1991 .
For 20 years, the same 4 men gave us an immense catalog of music that is woven through the fabric of our daily lives - if you sat down and listened to it, you’ll recognize more songs than you can even imagine - from movies, to tv shows, to video games, to commercials, to sports arenas… Queen is still ubiquitous 30 years after Freddie’s tragic loss.

The bass and the guitar on this song are slammin' and the drums are insane. Of course Freddie is on point as always. I don't know of many if any other singers who could stand up to the instrumentals in this song, but then again, there is only one Freddie Mercury. Queen was always the same 4 members and each member wrote number 1 hits, each had a different taste in music so when listening to Queen, the only thing that you should expect is excellence because each song is a new surprise. Queen does a little bit of everything from vaudeville, to folk, to speed metal, to rock n roll, to opera, to funk to ballads, to disco, to jazz, to anthems and they do it all with strict attention to detail and amazing skill. This song was written by Brian May. Great reaction, thank you. Completely different but my favorite live performance ever, by anyone is Queen: White Queen Live at Odeon, Hammersmith. It is so incredible and shows exactly how talented this band is. Also, March Of The Black Queen is an amazing song.

Many people will be blown away by their talent and their range if they invest in Queen. Three lead singers, four songwriters, massive talent. They are the best ever !!!

  • @christineirving4491pluviophile

Considering Brian wasn't a big fan of the band's funky side, he made a hell of a great job with this one. Thanks for doing this particular version, I just love the way that each of the boys get the chance to showcase their talents. As for the band's line up, it remained the same four guys from '71 until Freddie's death in '91.

They have another really funky one called "Fight From the Inside" that showcases their drummer Roger Taylor. He plays all the instruments & sings lead. I think you'd definitely dig it.💙☮
P.S. Our dear Dr. May plays the main guitar riff but Roger plays rhythm guitar, bass guitar, drums & sings. He has a great voice & could've been the lead singer in any other band but hey, they had Freddie. Roger & Brian always provided great harmonies though.
Btw, Brian is indeed a Dr. He's an astrophysicist who has collaborated with NASA. Also an author, photographer & one of Great Britain's foremost wildlife & animal welfare advocates. I adore that man.💙

Great reaction! Check out Cool Cat from Queen for a funky Motown song, and listen to how different Freddie sounds on these two tracks. Queen is a great band, there is a reason why they are the second best selling band of all time behind The Beatles. They are very versatile and could play any style. Queen was also created in 1970, their sound changed over the years, they adapted far better to the 80's then all of the other hard rock bands from the 70's. Queen is the 5th best selling artists from the 80's, despite the fact that American radio stations and MTV, rejected or banned a lot of their music during this time. Queen always had the same 4 members from 1971 - 1991, until Freddie Mercury's death, they never broke up, as was portrayed in the inaccurate Bohemian Rhapsody movie.
Queen had loads of hits through the years, they had 64 songs that made it onto the charts, however, it is the songs such this one that was never released as a single, that are the best. Queen's songs outside of their big hits are often better.
Roger Taylor is a great drummer, he is somewhat underrated as a drummer, he had his own unique style with his hi-hat, and on top of that he is a singing drummer. He is one of those rare drummers that can drum really well and sing really well at the same time.
John Deacon is a great bass player, he is often chosen as one of the top 10 best bass players of all time, Queen had some extremely memorable basslines. Brian May is a very unique guitarist, he built his own guitar and he plays with a coin, so he had a very unique sound, he is often chosen as one of the best guitarist. And of course there is Freddie Mercury he was actually a great piano player, but people often just focus on his voice and performances. Freddie could modify and change his voice to suit any style and genre of music, which is part of the reason why he is often chosen as the best vocalist of all time.

The 4 original members of Queen (Freddie Mercury, John Deacon, Roger Taylor, & Brian May) started together in 1971 and were still together when Freddie passed away in 1991.
What makes Queen unique is not only were all 4 members extremely talented musicians but each of them was a talented composer and each had hit singles. Each member of Queen had a different taste in music which explains why their catalog includes not just rock music, but glam rock, hard rock, progressive rock, disco, funk, jazz, opera, folk, ballads, thrash rock, gospel, R & B, & more.

Queen is best known for rock, but they have songs that represent almost every genre: funk, metal, pop, soul, gospel, jazz, blues, folk, ragtime, operetta, disco, rockabilly, anthems, movie soundtracks, even a madrigal with a fugue section, and what was among the first true "diss tracks" and the Bo Rhap video is credited with starting the entire music video genre as part of a music marketing strategy. Yes, I'm just a bit of a fan... Welcome to our Rabbit Hole.

Written by Brian May, this is a very funky song that I absolutely love. The bassline is great and John Deacon said it was his favorite Queen song to play live. There is room for every band member in this song which is also great. I am not sure what this song is actually about but since Brian typically writes about his life or what is going on around him, I am going to say that the Dragon is either his guitar, which surely breathes a whole lot of fire, or the music industry in general forever pressing for more with no chance of escape. Queen was always the same four members. In the later years Spike Edney, sometimes referred to as the 5th member of Queen (a multi-instrumentalist) played with the band so that Freddie could get off the piano and stay up front with the audience. He also helped out with other instruments at different times during live shows. Queen doesn't have a genre' they were never afraid to try things and all four of the members write music and have completely different tastes in the music they enjoy so you will get a lot of everything from Queen. Thank you for a great reaction, that big grin on your face throughout the song was the best reaction we could ask for.

  • @Pixelologist
    @Pixelologist Před 2 lety +2

Queen was so versatile - their sound was all OVER the map but always somehow still recognizably Queen. And that's due largely to Freddie's electric presence up front but Deacon's bass lines are usually fire, Roger Taylor's not just a talented drummer but also a vocalist who could easily front any other band, and Brian has no peer as a guitarist. Even within the framework of a single album, Queen would mix in so many different styles it's virtually impossible to get bored of them.
I would recommend..........well, so MANY different tracks, really. But one that's a little off the beaten track is the video of their live performance of Stone Cold Crazy at The Rainbow (from, I think, '74). It's like...proto-speed metal and hot as hell.

Hands down my favorite Queen song since it came out. Every instrument shines and of course Freddie kills it. The vocal harmonies too are incredible as always with them. I used to always crank it in my car. Great song to test sound systems whether a home or car system. Not sure if you'll see this comment being so long since you reacted to it but as far as other Queen songs to check out...More Of That Jazz, Fun It, Dead On Time, Leaving Home Ain't Easy (all from the Jazz album)...Staying Power, Body Language (from the Hot Space album), Don't Try Suicide (from The Game album), just to name of few of the not-so-popular songs. You'll hear various Freddie vocals, Brian May's excellence on guitar and Roger Taylor/John Deacon complimenting each other on drums and bass. Some rock, some funky but all top notch high quality songs. I have so many more other songs and bands to contribute but I always feel other people get to you first or that I just won't be seen or heard. That's ok, have always loved your channel.

Now listen to this live. Montreal 1981 is unbelievable, Milton Keynes 1982 also, especially when Brian breaks a guitar string & Deacy gets to do his bass solo. Even better than the studio version just because of the energy and charisma Freddie brings to it. Queen never stuck to one genre as you’ll soon find out if you delve deeper into their catalogue. I saw this tour’s show Detroit in 1981. Unbelievable show. Mercury and all were unparalleled. Yes, this was the original line up. Excellent songs on The Game (including the title track!) and of course the ultimate Queen disco-ish song: Another One Bites the Dust. Both The Game and Another One Bites the Dust, in fact probably this whole album from beginning to end, worth reacting to.
From “news of the world” album there’s so many good songs (besides “we will rock you” and “we are the champions”, of course) it’s silly …but if you want the heavy metal side of queen, “sheer heart attack” and if you want sexy sultry, “get down, make love”

Save Me (Montreal), Hammer to Fall, Stone Cold Crazy, Need Your Lovin, Seven Seas of Rhye, I Want to Break Free, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Somebody To Love (Montreal), Rock It Tonight and Another One Bites the Dust. These should get you started on your Queen journey.
After that, try Freddie’s Barcelona, How Can I Go On, and Golden Boy all with Montserrat Caballe.

Awesome! Queen was definitely of and way ahead of their time all at once! All four members each brought something to the table to make Queen what it still is today. You have yet to scratch the surface, their music is so diverse in genre and lyric subjects, it's insane!! Check out "Loser in the end", "Tenement funster", "modern times rock n' roll", "fight from the inside", "drowse", and "I'm in love with my car"- all sung by Roger.

Laser Book #49, "Tiger in the Stars" by Zach Hughes (Hugh Zachary) goes perfectly with this. (He awoke to find that his brain was hardwired into a vast starship with immense power and he was lost out in interstellar space and a mysterious radar blip was shadowing him at a distance, stalking him until he turned to fight it. The descriptions of the energy weapons and bolts of energy that streaked out across the cold vacuum to slam into the unblinking defenses of the opponent and the scenes of the bursts into super lightspeed with the colorfull bars of light left behind when they hyperjumped were awesome). It went perfeftly with this song

Another funky Queen song is Staying Power. You would also love Cool Cat! Kind of a jazzy, kickin' it at a BBQ vibe. For a bluesy feel, try Rock in Rio Blues and Dreamer's Ball.
For naughty Freddie, check out Get Down Make Love and Body Language (official music videos).

I, too, was very late to this song, despite owning a few of their records. Very diverse band in that all four members wrote big hits and they were not afraid to go absolutely anywhere musically. From 20's ragtime to acoustic ballads to hard rockers. (Well, you have heard Bohemian Rhapsody) I don't think there is any band out there like them today.

Can’t loose with any Queen song! Their early stuff made Bohemian Rhapsody sound like a cakewalk! Try Ogre Battle/Nevermore/Masterstroke/March Of The Black Queen. They all flow together and, in my opinion, is Queen at there ROCKIN BEST!

This is considered a deep cut, but I've been into them since I was a kid & am quite familiar with this song. No matter what label everyone want's to put on this band, & they experimented with different genre's to be sure, but they were first & foremost a rock & roll band from the very beginning! Some of their early stuff will peel paint off the wall!

John is on fire with the bass - I think this was his favorite to play live. It is a shorter version without some of the thrills in the album version, but visually, all shine and have their moment. I hope you will make it your mission to find those gems that make you say "I would never have thought that would be Queen." A good bet is to listen to the albums...sprinkled between the songs you know, are some smaller jewels with a punch. Try Cold Stone Crazy live at the Rainbow 1974. A different Queen ahead of the game.

Yes, Queen was Freddie, Brian, Roger, & John - no changes in the line-up, until Freddie died. Check out their collaboration with David Bowie, 'Under Pressure'. Before Queen, Brian & Roger were in a trio called, The Smile, with a singer/bassist named Tim Staffel. They released one album which didn't sell well at all, & Tim decided to leave. So, Brian & Roger asked Roger's roommate, Freddie, to replace him, which he did. But, Freddie wasn't a bassist, so they did a search & found John, & the group changed the name to Queen.

The album where on studio, Deacon used a bass heavy enough to showcase his amazing brilliance. Which is in all albums but many times with a lighter base to the one that would show in full.
In many loves he would use heavier, but would still not hide his brilliance to leave room for others, who were not better since they were all brilliant.
