      It’s not that people forget that football existed before the Premier League. It’s just incredibly difficult to find fair points of comparison the further back you go. Stuff like not knowing how many goals Pele actually scored as a professional is crazy to someone like me who’s grown up at a point where we can calculate the chance of scoring for literally anywhere on a pitch based on decades of data collected by organisations like OPTA. You’d need to be in your 50s/60s to actively remember Paisley which means you have 40 - 50 years of football to remember since.

    FFP rules need to get stricter not softer. The money in football is silly, it's about time someone stepped in.

    • @J3diMindTrix
      @J3diMindTrix Před 3 měsíci

      Teams are struggling with the FFP rules being as they are now, Everton’s point deduction being a prime example, Newcastle not being able to spend despite the recent takeover, and teams in general being hamstrung and not being able to build the squads they want … as mentioned as well the limit is outdated and needs to increase significantly, even still it punishes smaller clubs, how have Everton only breached it slightly and been fined 10 points during a season and yet City’s 115 charges aren’t even being looked at until the season is over? At least as things stand .. it’s absurd
      I don’t think many people would disagree that the money in football is silly but look at Saudi for example, all the money in the world pretty much couldn’t get players to stay there, Henderson didn’t even collect his payday he wanted to leave that badly (or at least that’s how it’s been portrayed) the problem is not everywhere will play by the same rules unless it’s enforced unilaterally so it would be hard to cut down the amount of money unless everyone agreed to it; if a rule came along saying salary cap or a certain percentage of a player’s salary goes to charity or something there would just be another China or Saudi situation so implementing it all over would be extremely challenging, though I don’t doubt many would like to see it happen

    • @ElBarcoGaming
      @ElBarcoGaming Před 3 měsíci

      without it it'd make what you're complaining about even worse. There'd be a richer cartel of clubs at the top with an even more insurmountable gap to the rest. The Championship clubs coming up would have even less chance of competing or attracting investment as the chance to succeed is less. The same would happen around Europe. Inflation would be even worse, clubs would struggle to move on players anywhere else even more due to wages being paid by the state owned etc clubs which would be more and more. The only option for clubs in other leagues outside of a small handful to compete would be break away.

    Pep changed the way football is played and he did it every few season. His game style evolves alongside football itself.
    And he did the treble for 2 different clubs and the sextuple with Barça 2009 (strongly regarded as the greatest football side ever). Plus the foundation he built for Bayern which lead them to their sextuple.

None of the finances that you want to access are being sustainably built by your club, they're a direct cash injection from an oil state. If that oil state gets kicked out of the international community and you have a wage bill the size of Man Utd's you'd be scrambling to stave off being put into administration. Newcastle fans often say they improved because they got Howe not due to money, but would Howe have taken over if Mike Ashley was sticking around, knowing there would be no money to spend, doubt it and they go down, so the takeover changed everything. You know they want splash the cash Chelsea style and will be looking for loop holes

      The reason Newcastle have risen is because they’ve gone on a Saudi chequebook spending spree of £443million while only selling £35m.
      Saudi Howe has 9 over £30million signings.
      Ashley’s Newcastle used to have 1.
      Saudi Howe has a Top 7 squad cost and wage bill.
      Ashley’s Newcastle had a bottom 6 squad cost and bottom 6 wage bill.
      It’s a Saudi Takeover spending spree rise of a club story.
      It’s not a £0 managerial magic wand rise of a club story.

      So the astonishing improvement of players like Shär, Joelinton, Longstaff, Murphy, Lascels and the 17 year old Miley is because of the fresh investments (that were basically close to 0 during Ashley) that the new owners spent? This shows how little you watch the PL and how little you know about the game. Take a break, like 20 years, from the internet mate 🤡

    Why do you both assume the FFP changes will become more lenient? If anything they're likely to become stricter as the league looks to come in line with the UEFA rules capping all spending on wages & players to 70% of total revenue.
    Shearer is talking from the biased perspective of a Newcastle fan who doesn't like limits on state backed spending. But just because it's bad for his club doesn't mean it's bad for the game. I for one am not excited by a future where the Premier League is just a battle ground between which oil state can blow the most money on players.

    ffp is only biting because newcastle's revenue streams were thoroughly neglected under Ashley - when the season's accounts reset on 1st July we'll be much healthier financially, with £30 million+ per season from sela & other new sponsors; then add in £30 million from Europe & new deal with adidas for £30 million+; within 3 years our turnover has doubled, which is on top of having the 'free' £105 million losses spare because Ashley ran the club within budget - which was the ONLY positive of his tenure

      @matthewjamison Liverpool can afford to pay silly wages to players it's not just about spending it's also about retention. Using Newcastle as an example if PSG come calling and offer to triple his salary he's joining PSG Newcastle cannot match that salary because of FFP, Liverpool could if PSG did the same for a player.

    • @matthewjamison
      @matthewjamison Před 3 měsíci

      @davidwhitton9050 Liverpool can afford it because they sell loads of shirts in Asia, have money coming in from social media etc.. It takes decades to build up your brand like that. Man utd dwarf Liverpools spending. They spent £600M more than Liverpool over the last 10 years. But they earn it, so I don't mind. But I do mind when cheats like Citeh or Chelski (who don't earn it) do.

    Pep manages a team that has 115 violations to their name and spend whatever it takes to win stuff. He's a phenomenal manager, but with that hanging over City's head, and Klopp running them close on a much smaller budget every year, I don't see why he could be the best. We all know they can just go and cherry pick the best players, pay them inordinate wages, and coast... except when Klopp has been around.

    Absolutely wrong Gary.
    Pep has walked into clubs that are already champions.
    What Ferguson did at United was remarkable by comparison. He built the club back up from an occasional cup winner to the powerhouse they were. It's no coincidence that when he left the success left with him.
    And.......they don't have 115 charges against them either.
    Pep's not really close IMO.
    He needs to win 13 titles to even be considered. United never finished lower than third once they got going.
    And Alan's hotel story edges Gary's golf story by ....a mile.
    I showed my American GF and explained who Alan is and she laughed hysterically.
