Don’t do this if you have pets or small kids!! Borax is poisonous and some essential oils are especially bad for pets. I love love love this series and Kris, and I used to use this in the 80’s myself, but please think of your pets and kiddos. 😢
Guys be VERY careful if you do this. But I recommend not doing this or using carpet fresh powder. Baking soda is death to vacuums motor. If you have a bagless machine it will clog up the filters and if the filter has a leak you don’t know about it will get into the motor and destroy it. If you have a bagged vacuum it will plug up the filter pores on the bag and again strain the motor. The particles of this stuff are fine enough to completely clog the bag/filter. If you do it once or twice fine. Just thoroughly clean the filters and/or change the bag. But if you do this all the time, be prepared to buy more vacuums.
🚧I don't know why they are uploaded this again, but, DO NOT DO THIS!!! 🚧 The small, sharp soda particles can clog filters, act like sandpaper on carpet fibres, and even break your vacuum if they make it into it's motor.
If you want to use baking soda, then use the specialized baking soda that's for vacuum cleaning! The crystal are larger and won't damage your carpet or your vacuum cleaner.
Hell yea!! Saturdays are cleaning days. I vacuum in two different directions also to make sure I get lots of bits. I have some oils I can add too. Yeeesss
I love this, used to do it, but it gunked up my machine. I dismantle my vacuum once a year and got sick of seeing all the essential oils and baking soda. Now I sprinkle cinnamon and clove powders each time and use my Bissell carpet cleaner for when I'm looking to really spiff it up.
Can I use washing soda? I have plenty of that. I know you use sodium bicarbonate in baking because that second carbon is what makes baked goods fluffy, but is that also what pulls odors from the carpet and/or freezer? Could I just use sodium carbonate?
#1 thing you can do to vacuum successfully is to vacuum slowly!!! People vacuum waaaayyyyy too fast, including in this video. The suction can only work if it is over the debris long enough to allow the vacuum to actually do it's job. Try this: vacuum at your normal speed. Empty the vacuum and then go back to vacuum again, but this time do it at a very slow pace. Empty the cup and compare.... You'll have as much or more the second time as you did the first.
Shouldn’t suck up baking soda into a vacuum in general it destroys the bearings inside the brushroll and the motor…..not to mention your filters clogged up PLUS all that fine dust and grit from the baking soda going down into the carpet farther than it can reach
cover the container with a lid and poke a bunch of holes in it so you can just walk around and shake the container for a good spread without needing to use a spoon or a sifter.
If you live in an area that has unusually high humidity . . . be careful. If you choose to do this - don't let it sit too long b4 vacuuming . . . it may turn into a paste.
Yes! As a hoarder cleaner, after the major cleaning with chemicals. We absolutely use baking soda infused with lavender 💜 shop vac on wet..no problems 💜
Rent a Kirby and you’ll never stay in a motel again. They have these special coffee filter discs and it vacuumed up skin flakes from my saatva mattress. After I saw what it pulled from my carpet, I had it removed within the month and replaced with vinyl planking from Walmart. These other vacuums are a waste of money, especially Shark brands
Essential oils are disgusting. People should consider that there is a significant percentage of the population that gets very painful headaches from them. It ruins our entire day. Everyone can see the flaw in a stinky person over applying perfume. At least that stinky person takes a shower and washes away the perfume. Your carpet just keeps that smell forever.
Make sure to clean the vacuum filter after this. The baking soda can cake it up and make it overheat.
Your a legend
Good tip! 🙂

This works really well, but learn from my mistake and make sure your vacuum still works before you spread the baking soda around everywhere😂
Or just buy the baking soda that's for vacuums... Then you won't have to worry about it.
😂😂 definitely
@C-Handle um, no kind of baking soda will fix my vacuum my man, I don't think you read my comment right lol.

... his vacuum was broken before he placed the soda down... so it wouldn't make a difference if OP used a different brand

Clean ur vac after. Using ANY kind of powder can damage the belt, filters, and motor. Take out the roller and clean the brushes there too.

Just vacuum with friends them your not alone.
❤
What about dogs and cats I thought essential oils are bad for them?
It’s always great to check before to make sure the essential oil you’re using is pet friendly. 🙂
After your all done. Spray everything with white vinegar. Tada!
Just get a new rug man. All those chemicals is left back can really harm your pet or child
Safe for pets?
Not all essential oils are. So be sure to check and see if your oil of choice is safe for pets.
