Totally agree on those oil pumps looks like they are all cast from the same mold.. very clever how the aftermarket guys are grinding off the VAG part number and logos.. but I’m not sure about the oil pump gear seals and the reliability of the pumps.. that’s the critical function of the pump. I don’t care about the casting of the housing but I think there is no difference there.. so I just pulled my upper timing cover and see the older style cam chain although I have the updated full spiral tensioner.. hmmm not sure why that is?? Anyway my cam is now at -7° adaptation and I’m not driving my B8 until I get the rest of my parts. Doing the full timing job.. FCP full kit, and doing the rear coolant flange and water pump.. waiting for a little bit of a warmer day haha.. great lesson video here.. I agree on what is most critical for replacing.. and when to preemptively replace things that are on borrowed time

My 2010 did over 2 liters per 1000km, got the piston fix and since then it doest need any oil between oil changes. It was a warranty job so they said they werent allowed to do anything else than just the oil fix stuff which is silly since just a few miles after I had to do carbon clean and get it to the shop again... And it was a stressful time before they fixed it, one time they said it wasnt warranty and it would cost $10k...

From my experience with parts Audi will outsource the parts to be built on all high value items. They rely on their own Service and repair data to see how well they perform and often act to improve it over time and also build it cheaper which is why they switch makers. When they superceed a part, the builder must grind off the current stock tags which they hold in stock and sell it as pattern.
The problem is these pattern parts may be inferior in design as Audi has made a change to improve something or just save money.
It may also be rejected stock as Audi tested it and found something wrong but this doesn't happen that much now as they rely on warranty requests to pickup issues.

Can't confirm, but I've heard that batches that don't meet Audi spec, bearing runout etc will get grinded the logo's off and then sold as OES. All I know from my experience is OEM and OES are NOT always the same part - dont listen to those that say its the same part, because its not always. Is it most of the time? probably...but on a critical part that is difficult to replace, thats a decision you have to make.

From someone who works in OEM manufacturing i would guess those were all mad at the same factory on the same line. When OEM parts are made if they fail the OEM tests they are put to the side and tested under "warehouse" standards. The windows are opened up a bit and then if they pass they go to "aftermarkert" suppliers like Oreillys or autozone under a different name. Same part same process, just looser standards.

Naptown? Didn't Audi test these engines before going on the market? They pay employees to drive them 500,000 miles or more I thought to see what fails, etc. I'm really confused as why they ignore this problem for so many years? They had a lawsuit back in the early 2000's on that 30valve v-6 that had major issues and here History is repeating itself . I'm paying a shop $7500 for a 60K mile CPMA engine and I'm still screwed because the timing chains probably need replace soon. He works on Audi's but never does the balance chain when he does a timing chain job. He doesn't fully understand this engine.. I'm waiting for him to tell me the engine swap is done. I can't even sleep knowing my 2013 A4 Premium plus is up to $17000.00.(Under water) and still the original chains at 60k. I'm just sick about this mess. I don't want him to touch nothing, just the swap and he will double check the water pump.
