  • Are you wondering, "How do I lower high liver enzymes?" In this video we look at some of the strategies and techniques that you can use to lower your liver enzymes. We will look at what liver enzymes are, how they function, and what you can do to help get these levels down.
    Options: geni.us/lAZW96p (Amazon)
So how do you lower high liver enzymes well lowering high liver enzymes or elevated liver enzymes can be pretty straightforward but you don't want to try to lower the levels without first finding out what them to be high. So first let's talk a little bit about what liver enzymes are. Liver enzymes are proteins, all enzymes are made of proteins. These are proteins that are inside the liver cells and the liver tissue. They help support the normal functioning of the liver which is mostly detoxification. There are three main liver enzymes, the AST which is aspartate amino transferase. There is also ALT which is alanine amino transfer. Finally there is GGT which is gamma-glutamyl transferase. All these enzymes are basically transferring a molecule onto a toxin to help it get eliminated from the body. When these enzymes are high it means that you have inflammation in your liver. So it makes sense that you would want to get them down, or reduce them so you no longer have inflammation in your liver. It is normal to have these enzymes in your blood but when high suggests increased stress and inflammation in the liver.
The first step is to remove any known cause that could trigger this issues. That would be things like alcohol, Tylenol, sometimes fatty liver is a contributing factor, and viruses like viral hepatitis . These are all most common causes of elevated liver enzymes. If you don't remove these causes first, taking any vitamin, nutrient, supplement etc will have limited effects or may not even work at all.
If you are taking a lot of Tylenol for pain, for instance, you may need to find a different pain alternative. You should talk to your doctor about different options for that. If you consume a lot of alcohol or even mild to moderate amounts, you may need to cut that out or cut back to see if that has an effect on your liver enzymes. If you are consuming a lot of alcohol, you may need extra help through a medical detox, for instance. In the case of fatty liver, or what's also known as NASH or non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis the problem occurs from excess triglycerides. Excess triglycerides usually occur from excess carbohydrate intake. It would make sense that lowering your carbohydrate intake specifically like the refined carbohydrates would improve fatty liver. Sometimes there are a combination or multiple things to your liver inflammation. To find out, you get some lab work done or diagnostic tests to get a clear understanding the cause. From there you will have a better idea how to lower the numbers.
Herbal and Nutrient Ways to Lower High Liver Enzymes
There are some nutrient deficiencies that can make one more susceptible to elevated liver enzymes or high liver enzymes. Generally that is going to be B vitamin deficiencies. The main reason is B vitamins are needed to make choline. Choline is an essential part of making the transportation proteins to get triglycerides out of your liver and into the peripheral tissues to be stored as fat. Specifically it is B12 and methylfolate that are needed to make choline. Supplementing with any of those B12, folate, and choline, can help your liver recover. This is especially true when the numbers are high from the fatty liver. In some cases these will help even when there is no fatty liver.
Glutathione is one of the main antioxidants in our body. It is also important for overall detoxification. Anything that helps with glutathione production or recycling will support the liver function. Things like milk thistle for instance help increase the amount of glutathione. It works by taking glutathione from the oxidized state to the reduced state. This can really help with your liver in ter

Well done, very educational beyond the typical google search! I've been a bit concerned as my AST/ALT have slowly been creeping up over the last few years, albeit both were still in reference range until March of 2021 when my ALT spiked to 60 IU/L. My AST was still in range at 37 at that time. I'm 5'8, 176lbs, 37 y/o male. When I was younger, I drank heavily until 2015, but have cut back a little bit with each passing year. When I saw that bloodwork, I cut back even further. By the time I was tested again in November of 2021, the ALT dropped to 45 & AST down to 26... Fast forward to April 2022, I once again picked up exercising 3-4 days a week for months, cut back to only a drink or two twice a month & had lost six pounds. The AST dropped again to 25, but the ALT was still at 45. I was perplexed as to why the ALT didn't drop further. I did notice that the levels started gradually increasing right when I started taking Cholestoff Plant Sterols & Fish Oil. I've changed to Flaxseed Oil & have stopped the Cholestoff... Fingers crossed for the next labs - I'm just hoping I didn't do irreparable damage from the partying as a youngen :/

      @mmostwill Před 11 měsíci +3

@@voiciray I was able to get my liver healthy again, it's hard to say exactly what did the trick... But diet/exercise were likely the biggest contributors IMO. I started working out 3-5x a week (50/50 cardio vs/ resistance) and switched to a higher protein/unsaturated fat, lower carb diet (not keto by any means, just skewed in that direction). I also added choline/milk thistle at the same time. I lost another ten pounds in the process, so naturally that has been of big benefit too. Within only a few weeks of throwing all those things at it, I was back down to the mid 20s for ALT and I've been around 22/23 ever since. AST/GGT right around the same level. So I most likely had a fatty liver issue that was ongoing, though not confirmed. Keeping up the routine since then has kept the levels normal. FWIW, I also switched to a krill oil supplement instead of flaxseed & added L-Theanine as well, primarily for focus, though it's antioxidant effects may have had a positive contribution as well.

After 2 rounds of bloodwork, I was able to trace it to the CMV virus which generally is asymptomatic in most healthy people, or will only cause a mild flu like illness. I’m only 20 years old. I was on antibiotics for over a month around Sept 2021. Since then my liver enzymes were 190. I would only drink every other weekend & I also have ADHD which I am on adderall XR & IR for. I went to the ER for gastritis a month ago & still am recovering. This weekend my blood work showed ALK phos 285, ALT 70. Everything is normal, slight anemia, iron & b12 deficiency. I am really worried because this gastritis has impacted my life and school but I am getting off adderall in hopes of improving my liver enzymes. I’m not really sure what else could be the cause. My diet does consist of a lot of red meat too but Idk what I can do. The root cause seems confusing.

Mine were recently high. AST 319. Alt 102. Bilirubin 1.8 2 days before the blood draw I did some weight training with the doctor that took the labs. They did an ultrasound today and said everything looked fine except my mild fatty liver….. I’ve read multiple studies and cases where people have had elevated levels this high because of weight training within a few days of the cbc and lasting for up to 7 days. I’ve been a couch potato for the last year or so and my legs were hurting tremendously for 3 days…. Well into the time I had the cbc done.
Is this something that could seriously be the cause of the elevated levels? I’m going to meet with the GI doctor in 3 weeks but I feel like I’ll be anxious till then.

My liver enzymes keep going up, but I eliminated alcohol and NSAIDs 3 years ago when they told me to.
I recently started taking Lipitor and my cholesterol and triglycerides are now normal, but liver enzymes are higher and liver is enlarged, according to a stomach CT (I had that done to look for a hiatal hernia, which I do have, as well as an umbilical hernia and mildly enlarged spleen).
I was recently diagnosed with diabetes so I’ve been eating a lot better and reduced carbs. Liver enzymes increased.
My lab work shows I have tons of inflammation so idk it that’s related, but nothing is being done about it since the rheumatologist my primary referred me to just sent me to the endocrinologist, saying she doesn’t think I have an autoimmune disease.

I have a question. I do clinical studies and when I'm not in studies, I drink a lot of detox tea and green tea. Lately, my ALT and AST number elevated so I have to go back to do another lab at the study in order to get cleared from the stud. Do you think drinking too much tea would cause elevated AST/ALT levels? Thank you so much!

    • @swintegrative

It shouldn’t but teas can have contamination heavy metals etc depending on the source.

I’ve been Carnivore for almost a year now. Two weeks ago had yearly check up and bloodwork. My liver enzymes very high and now Dr wants more bloodwork and an ultrasound WTH?!? I’m not sure why I’m inflamed, but ultrasound will be checking for liver issues. I’m not a drinker or smoker. Not happy about this.
