    The love of the Elves in Tolkien's works is different than humans. They fall in love only once in their entire existance, so it's even more special, and tragic when their loved ones die.(Elves actually do not die like humans either, they wake up back in the demi-god's lands.. it's a complicated story)

    Saruman is actually an even bigger jerk in the books than in the movies. His color is supposed to be white and yet if you call him "Saruman the White", he frowns. Because as far as he's concerned, he is "Saruman of Many Colors". He's probably the most arrogant character that Tolkien ever made.

      He took over the tower Orthanc and renamed it Isenguard well before the time of the movies because he started secretly searching for the Ring for himself. But his council to others like Gandalf and Galadriel and Elrond was that it probably washed out of the River Isen and out to the sea lost.

      TBH, Realistically there was no other choice - Saruman LIVED not 10 miles from the Gap of Rohan, (The Border of Rohan in the East, a narrowish pass between two mountain ranges) and he already knew they were coming, so he could station Orcs and human followers there to kill or capture them. The pass of Caradhras was closed to them by Saruman also. They could trek hundreds of miles north and use the pass near rivendell, but Orce live in those passages. What other route was there? Gandalf, link all Maiar, had a degree of foresight and it failed him beyond entering Moria... kind of a hint he would die there. Would any being choose to enter a place where he was sure he would die? Perhaps his courage failed at that, because of the stakes involved. Frodo bore the ring - perhaps he should trust in Frodo's fate, rather that his own, now unknown future.

    • @bluebird3281

      Gandalf knew Frodo had the ring for a reason, he was an angelic being in an old appearing body. He trusted the higher powers he worked for guiding Frodo's fate and let Frodo make the choice. They made it out of the mines into Lothlorien, Gandalf took out a Balrog that could have been used by Sauron, then came back with a power up and Saurman's job. Worked out well, trusting the ring bearer's fate to the Valar and Eru.

    21:27. He's directly related to her. The story of Beren and Luthian is another important story in Tolkein's legendarium. It takes place in the 1st age (so about 7 or 8 thousand years before Lord of the Rings) and involves the first ever romantic paring of a man and an elf. Its probably the most important love story since Romeo and Juliet. Long, long, long story short Luthian's dad was not happy with his daughter wanting to marry a mortal man and so to give his consent he set a basically impossible task to Beren. Long, long, long story short they basically succeed... sort of (with the help of a giant talking dog) Their antics so impressed everybody, (including the local deities) that they were finally blessed so that their line should never fail. Aragorn is directly related to them as well as Elrond I think. You will notice later why their story has a special significance to Aragorn.

  • @johnwalters1341
    @johnwalters1341 Před 18 dny +1

    At 16:46, Arwen's choice of a mortal life with Aragorn is a major decision that will have repercussions far beyond this moment. At the end of the First Age, the Valar, the Guardians of the World, rewarded the Edain, the Men who had aided the Elves in their hopeless war against Morgoth (Sauron's boss!), with a life span three times that of lesser Men, and the beautiful island of Elenna, within sight of the Undying Lands, where they founded the kingdom of Numenor. Elrond and his twin brother Elros were half-elven, with a mortal father and an elvish mother; to them the Valar also gave a choice of which kindred to belong to. Elros chose to be mortal and became the first king of Numenor; Elrond chose to be of Elf-kind and remain in Middle-earth. The Valar's choice was also given to Elrond's children, so here is the culmination of a process that began over 6,000 years ago and would end with the rejoining of the lines of Men and Elves.

  • @brettpeacock9116

    2:10 - for some background. In the First age was the First Dark Lord, a Valar called Melkor, who became corrupt. The Valar are the Greater spirits that aided God (Eru-Iluvatar) to create Middle earth. Melkor then corrupted a number of lesser spirits (akin to angels), called Maiar, one of whom adopted his mantle, but he pretended to repent and was imprisoned for a time. After his release he used his nowledge and power (he was more powerful than many other Maiar, thanks to knowledge he gained from Morgoth) to go mong the elves, in disguise as a great Elf-Lord, called Annatar (Giver of Gifts) and he taught them the craft of Magical Ring-making and how to imbue certain magical abilities into the rings, all the while leaving those creations open to his corruption. While he taught he was careful not to MAKE those rings, himself - a way to gain trust. But some of the elves (Galadriel among them), were wary of him still and were careful not to abuse the powers. When Sauron put on the One Ring for the first time, the elves immediately saw the beatrayal and took off their rings before he could trap them. Dwarves, on the other hand he could not dominate, as he had planned to, because dwarves, unlike Elves and Men, were not originally made by Eru-Iluvatar. Dwarves were created by a lesser Valar, as his followers, and in a different manner, so the Sauron's planned domination over them did not hold BUT it did accentuate the Character Flaws that other races saw in dwarves - Lust for gold, stubborness and the like, to a dangerous degree. But they would NEVER submit to Sauron. Sauron thus set out to steal their rings and destroy the Dwarves, making them his enemies. (Also see the Hobbit, Bilbo's adventure.) The fate of the Kings of Men who received Rings you know. There were also a large number of minor rings (Dozens or hundreds - not stated in Tolkien) made, before the Elves "Got good at it" Some still are about, but not part of the story as thir powers are weak and unsteady (Hence Gandalf telling Frodo that there are "many magic rings, none to be used lightly.".. This a a very short, cliff notes summary of the Lore and history.)

No movie or tv series can reach the imagination of a book reader in how he or she visualizes the world and imagines the characters to be in it. Peter Jackson decided to make the One Ring of Power like a powerful narcotic drug that the user can become addicted to and dependent upon by using it too much. Bilbo was highly addicted to the Ring and didn't want to give it up.

    • @rikk319
      @rikk319 Před 22 dny

      Jackson didn't make it like that--Tolkien did a pretty good job of expressing that in the novel without explicitly mentioning addiction. Addiction existed before modern drugs, you know.

      @@rikk319 It was Jackson who expressed that he wanted the ring to be like a drug addiction. That's all I was saying above. Tolkien basically saw it as power corrupting a person in the general sense.

    after the reacter´s cut the "bigger story" is just a dime novel. Other reacters need 20 minutes for Bilbo´s birthday party, here the heroes enter the Mines of Moria after 20 minutes.
    That´s....... impressive. And I am not interested in the second part.

    Yes, LotR is a MUCH bigger (and deeper) story than you thought. But you show so little of the film in your video, and hence very little of your involuntary emotional reactions. That's disappointing. Viewers who love LotR want to see your emotional reactions (partly to re-live their own first experiences with it).
    If you're going to do the reactions this way (with a lot of you talking rather than watching+reacting) your videos need to be at least triple the current length. Perhaps, when you finish Fellowship of the Ring, you should watch some other youtubers' reactions to it -- to see how other people do it better.

      Are you seriously going after her with this bogus idea. All of the other reactors are bs reactors they try to hard to be horrible actors with showing emotion and gestures. Unlike the movies of professional actors the reactors over do it and becomes fake and boring. This is her channel and she has the prerogative to do her way, to say that those who love LotR in a fanatical manner is too far and beyond the norm. The books are more detailed but long and the movies are made for entertainment not to fall in love as you say. Learn to read people and you will notice just how fake those reactors are that you speak of.
