I spent 5 minutes in college but my favorite course by FAR was linguistic anthropology. So much that I paid attention to the words that I use in order to understand my own thought biases as well as the words other people use to understand theirs. I couldn't agree more with style. I come from the roughest parts of LA in South Central. The I way I talk to my ppl here compared to how I talk to my people back in UC Riverside is completely different. Some are surprised that I come from this area because of the way I talk.
Race could very well be why people were saying that Obama was "articulate." BUT, I would point out that before Obama, we had George W Bush as president, who was not articulate at all. So, one can't overlook the fact that after eight years of Americans listening to Bush, people may have appreciated Obama being articulate. Just saying that a combination of factors may be at work here.
I think you make an excellent point here and I completely agree. I don’t think I explained the argument as best I could but the book does not ignore other factors playing a role. Thank you!
Gawdam linguistic anthropology is also about race now?!? Dammm! 😅 guess you can’t get away from woke crap even in the most obscure sections of learning. I’ve lost all interest in the sub now, thanks for opening my mind 🙏
